Question about IBC
Does anyone know and I know this may be a long shot, but I was just curious has anyone been able to feel the sheet/nest of the Inflammatory breast cancer in there breast? Also has/had anyone if they remember besides feeling what you all felt and seen with your breast changes right before diagnosed with the Inflammatory Breast Cancer was there anything else such like feeling tired all the time or any other illnesses/differeances you felt at the same time just before being dx with IBS? I dont know why but some reason I felt like the urge to ask these 2 questions and osrry if they sound silly I'm just curious. Thanks ALL God Bless

I could/can feel the thickened skin in my IBC breast. Before I realized and was dx with IBC, I thought it just felt that way because it was swollen. Also -- this may sound weird -- but I could not get a hold on my nipple like you normally can kind of pinch and pull it. It was too tight and I couldn't get a hold of it. Does that make sense? I have been on Tykerb and Xeloda for 2 months now and although I still can feel the thickening and the nipple tightness is still there, it is much improved. My 2 mammos and ultrasounds since I was dx in June show the thickening decreasing and I can also feel it myself. Other symptoms I had --- hot to the touch, pores looked large -- "orange peel skin" -- rash.
No question is silly or too personal on this BC forum. That is why we are all here -- to ask questions when we need to and answer other peoples' questions when we can. Ask away.

Thickened skin surely can be felt, but not everyone feels it. My doctor did not notice it, but I did, and so did the MRI. I felt "normal" before my diagnosis, I didn't feel sick until I started chemo. Best wishes to you!!! Jessica

Yes, it was kind of a flattened nipple, but not totally. Mine still did get erect (headlight on) from touch or from being cold. I guess we are all different.

I too felt tired and the thickened purple and puffy breast was visible in a couple of days by me and not my MD - I basically had to get my own skin biopsy outside of my insurance plan since they could not believe that it was IBC ! Go figure! My nipple was and is still hard and semi inverted.

If your nipple inverts or flattens any at all it's time to see a doctor and demand a mammo. If you have had inverted nipples all your life that's ok. ANY, absolutely ANY change you see in a breast should be looked into immediately. I let mine go for several months until I noticed my right breast was perky and the other breast it's usual saggy. I had some itchiness that was becoming uncomfortable. I didn't notice thickness but the Dr did. I was diagnosed at once and treatment started within a week. Thanks be to God.....there was no major spreading but cells found in lymph nodes at surgery was a disappointment, BUT my tumor began shrinking after 2nd chemo and by surgery time the path had to call up to surgery and ask my surgeon where the tumor was. He couldn't even find it! I had chemo first - 4 rounds of A/C and 4 rounds of Taxol.. Then surgery and 34 rads. Positives for me......I had no skin mets, the tumor was gone, and I was re-staged from Stage 4 to Stage 3. That's the touch of God working through the skill of my Drs.
I had scans 3 weeks ago and they came back clean. I am believing in God that I am going to have a long and happy life watching my grand daughter and any more grandkids I may have, grow and know their mimee...
