I am a 23 year old mother of a 4 year old with a 56 year old mother whom was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 43. I found a lump in my left breast and went for an ultrasound. I got my test results back and they are as follows:

1 lesion in the right breast that is somewhat cystic in appearance and could represent a cyst.

5 lesions in the left breast that show large margins and lie parallel to the plane of breast tissue and are consistent with benign fibroadenomas.

Now my major concern is.. Do I biopsy one of these 5 lesions just to be sure and save some peace of mind? Wait 2-3 months to perform follow up breast ultrasound, or jump to an MRI of the breast?? Any ideas or suggestions??

the likelihood of bc at the age of 23 is very low; and the fact that you have multiple sites is most likely indicative of fibrocystic breast disease. I would have them  redo the breast ultrasound in a few months to see if they have resolved; then, if there are still unanswered concerns, I would ask for a mammogram and /or MRI.

You can have a needle aspiration of the cyst(s) to see what they are.

The needle aspiration could be a good idea - I have had one and it isn't too painful.  For peace of mind, I think it worth trying,

    Very best wishes -

I did a biopsy on my fibroadenoma, but I am 46.  They found LCIS.  So I had it removed and fortunately they did not find any cancer.  I did go see an oncologist on the advise of my breast surgeon.  She said I am considered high risk because 1.  the LCIS  2.  My mom had breast cancer  3.  I have never had children.  So now I will be monitored every six months with alternating MRIs and Mammos.  I will see the Oncologist once a year and my OB/GYN once a year.  And finally I just took my first tamoxifen pill today.  I consider myself lucky.  Now if breast cancer does come my way then I have caught it very early.
