I posted this on another board but didn't get any response so hopefully someone here can answer a question for me.

On day 7 after my Neulasta shot my white cells tanked.....my armpits started really hurting.   I thought it was from the shot.   Well then I noticed 4 or 5 knots or bumps that were red and looked like they were forming a pimple.    This was on my non-cancer side.   I also have 2 on my cancer side.   I called the oncologist on-call (it was the weekened) and she said it sounded like I had a bacterial infection under my arm and when my cells tanked the infection set up.   She gave me a script for Bactrim to take for 10 days.

Last night I was looking at them and few of them had a head on them (like a pimple) (sorry to be so gross) so I squeezed and some stuff came out like a pimple.   Since taking the Bactrim they aren't as big and they aren't red but are still kinda tender (because I keep touching them).

I think how it all started was when I had my port put in it hurt to raise my arm and maybe I didn't wash under my arms like I should have and then the infection set in when my white counts were down.

Should I be worried?   O.k. let me rephrase that......I am worried.   Granted they aren't as big, they don't have heads on them anymore and they aren't red.   I'm guessing just the fact that they looked like pimples and I could squeeze them like a pimple that it is a genuine bacterial infection.   Could it just have been clogged pores and NOT lymph nodes?   Can you even feel lymph nodes close to the surface of your skin?

What is your take?   I'm just so sick of worrying about them.

I am on the August 09 thread and it sounds like you have what one of the ladies recently described.   Her doctor told her it was infected hair folicles and suggested that she apply warm compresses 4 times a day and prescribed antibiotics.

Good luck and I hope you feel better.

How do I get to the thread you are talking about so I can read it?
