36 and given choice of Tamox or Evista...

Had a stereo biopsy and they found ADH.  Followed that up with an excisional biopsy.  No cancer just more ADH.  My surgeon is giving me a choice between tamoxofen (sp?) or Evista.  Evista seems like the better choice, but I don't see anywhere that it's been approved for premenopausal women.  But it that only for osteo.?  I mentioned this to my doctor when she suggested it.  she actually thinks it's the better choice since i still have my uterus.  When i mentioned that i thought that was only for post menopausal woman, she said normally yes, but didn't have a problem prescribing it for me.  does anyone have any info/experience on this?

    So far, Evista has only been approved for prevention of invasive bc in use with post menopausal women. But I wouldn't be surprised if it is approved for premenopausal  soon. I took tamoxifen for 5 years and now I take evista. (I'm high risk due to LCIS and family history.)

    Tamoxifen has had the most trials done and it's been around the longest. JMO - I wouldn't want to be a human Lab mouse/guniea pig for the Evista Pharmaceutical. Best wishes with your decision.

    My doctor incorrectly prescribed me Evista over Tamox for my dx of ADH even though I told him I was premenopausal.  He told me the same story your Dr. is telling you- that it is kinder to my uterus.  Concerned, I got a second opinion from the Dr. Susan Love Breast Cancer Foundation which wrote back to alert me that I should not be taking Evista bc it is not FDA approved for PM women.  I contacted my doc to discuss my concern and he apologized for the error and prescribed me Tamox.  If you are PM, then do not take Evista- I agree with LauraGTO.

    I am 45 premenopausal diagnosed with non invasive DCIS, had lumpecyomy and radiation. I am estrogen positive and my doctor prescribed EVISTA also. I had talked to him about being premenopausal and he sited studies recently released that show evistas  fine to use in premenopausal women.I wish i would of asked him to show me the studies because i haven't been able to find them on my own I am not sure if i am going to take this.I was just prescribed it friday.thanks kim

    In October 2006, after my 2nd dx of ADH, my doctor insisted I take either tamox or Evista. This was just after the STAR study had been released (comparing tamox vs Evista for preventing invasive bc). He wanted to check the study to see if it had been tested and approved for premeno women. He wrote me a script for both meds but instructed me not to fill either until I heard back from him. I really wanted to take the Evista because of the reduced side effects vs tamox. He also checked with collegues about the use of Evista in premeno women. He called me back a week later on my 46th birthday and said that Evista was not approved for premeno women by the FDA and I needed to fill the tamox. If the Evista had been approved for premeno women he didn't have a problem giving it to me.
