I just want to share this - our local community cancer support center has offered a rowing class and I have fallen head-over-heels in love with it! There are usually 8 of us there to fill the boat (only 4 the other day so we took out a 4 - very different!). It's such a wonderful experience - learning a new skill, being on the water, working in tandem with a bunch of women with different cancers and in different places in treatment/survivorship. I've also had a fantastic time sculling - I've been out 3 times in a single and my DH and I went out in a double today. Too much fun!

I hear that there are a lot of "pink boats" at regattas. Curious if anyone else here rows?

Jorf, sounds wonderful.  I use the machine at the gym, nothing like you're describing.  Come join us on the motivation thread, we love hearing how everyone is exercising and what they're doing.

I rowed during law school and loved it.  Now I live in Hawaii and I do outrigger canoeing (well, I missed this year but I will do it again in 2010) and I love that too!  Very differerent but also a great team experience and great being out on the water.

very cool trigeek. seems that there are a lot of dragon boat women here. I've never seen one but will keep my eye out.

aloha, the outrigger canoing looks like fun also (just looking at some pics on line).

I am very sad that I hurt myself and haven't been able to row for a couple of weeks. My priority right now is being ok for my 2nd degree black belt test next Friday (a week from right now!). Hoping I can get back to rowing pretty quick. My PT told me today that she thinks my lat on the right side pulled on the trap and pulled the neck out of wack - I'd rowed 3 days in a row (Monday and Wednesday rowed stroke in our 8 and Tuesday an hour+ in a single scull) and on Thursday threw a punch inTae Kwon Do without being centered and yanked out my right arm. Hopefully she'll give me the OK to row, maybe port side to give the right arm a break and maybe scull if I promise to be good (ha ha), before winter comes!
