Hi all you lovelies!
Haven't been on the boards since Friday at work, a lot has happened! DH and I hopped in the convertible and hit the road. He finally was free on Sunday a.m. so we took advantage. We were remembering my first chemo - DD A/C last 8/28/08 and were kinda celebrating how far we've come!! We cried a little in the remembering too...when I said "I feel almost normal right now"...anyway, we walked seriously Sat. morning before we left but that was it for structured exercise...oh did some jumping jacks too! Back at it today.
Ainm - I'm proud of you, I read all the posts and it seems you worked through some of your issues. This thread is so awesome! I think of you ladies often and you really motivate me.
Welcome lovinmomma! and Uma/Pinkdove - 18 rads done, WOOHOO!!!!!!!!
Shout outs to everyone else, am at work and need to scoot. Since there was a lot of talk about size:
What counts is not necessarily the size of the dog in the fight - it's the size of the fight in the dog.
- Dwight D. Eisenhower -
Hmmm. I like that one "what matters is the size of fight in the dog".
I will be gone from here for a bit! Will check in when I can. Keep moving ladies, keep exercising!
-
Spring--good luck on the surgery!!! We'll all be thinking of you and sending you fast-healing thoughts and virtual hugs!!
-
Ainm - stay strong and keep positive. Sometimes I think stressing about weight loss almost makes the process that much harder. For me stress = bad eating habits! You're doing great so far. 10 lbs is a lot!
I have stayed at 4-5 lbs down since my BMX. I would like to lose another 4-5 lbs and keep it off. I can't really exercise right now, except a little walking. Still healing from surgery, but watching what I eat. I bought all kinds of healthy foods tonight at the grocery store.
Spring - good luck with the surgery!
You all are an inspiration! I was thinking tonight - my goodness, I am a breast cancer survivor. My sister is, too. Everytime I think that, I get a big smile on my face!
-
Good morning, quick checkin...have jury duty and have to report soon!
Tried the treadmill last night and did one of the hilly programs, wow I am not in the shape I used to be in! And it aggravated my hip pain! AARRGGHH!!! Thought I'd give it a try anyhow.
Spring, thinking of you and sent some prayers your way.
kittycat, good for you with the healthy foods! YAY.
Let's keep moving ladies, make it a great day!
That first peak is the best place to pause and look back, to see if you took the easiest route, to learn the lessons from the first climb. And it is the best place to examine the terrain ahead, to change your plans and goals, to take a deep breath and begin climbing again.

Good morning! Hot & humid here today, with quite a bit of smoke blowing in from the Oak Glen fire, which is about 25 miles from us. I walked for just an hour (3 miles), but really had to push myself.
I also wanted to let you all know that prior to leaving for NOLA, Spring gave me her home address, so if you'd like to send her a card, PM me for it.
Make it a great day wherever you are and whatever you're doing ~ Deanna

We are in New Orleans and I am happy to report we walked the length of the French quarter twice! Down Royal street and back up Burbon street... (where people walk around with cups of beer, and one place is named, "Huge Ass Beers to go". (You can't make this stuff up!!) Pre-surgical appts tomorrow!
Spring.
-
Finally out of jury duty! All day and got called up and squeaked by when they only needed one alternate. But I tripped over a curb first thing right in the parking lot before heading up the court steps and bit the dust! OUCH!!!!!! Fell on my left hand (wrong hand bucko) and it has a big bruise and some swelling and my right knee was bloody and some knuckles on my right hand are scraped. What a klutz, there were people everywhere and nobody except another lady about my age came to help me. Wow, people are really amazing, hmmm...
Spring, Huge Ass Beers to go CRACKS me up!!!!!!!!!!! Deanna, pm me the address please.
-
On my day off on Monday I mowed part of my yard and then it started rainin. Then I moved in to the house. It is all Spring's fault!! I rearranged the extra bedroom. Didn't know the furniture was so heavy but now the room looks bigger. And then after work today I finished mowing the rest of my yard. I could use those goats down here!!
Spring best of luck and prayers coming your way. My cousin's daughter works at one of the hospitals in NO. She does therapy of some sort. You will be back walking in no time. Can't keep the good ones down.
Everyone else have a great day and has anyone heard from Lisa? Joy
-
Vivre, loved the poem, had to watch it here at home, but I just love stuff like that. I thought of all of us!
Deanna, I've been thinking of you with that huge fire and a lot of other fires in Calif. right now. After we had returned home from our trip Sunday I saw half the sky lit up with smoke and a fire broke out right where we had just driven through in Auburn, 50 homes were destroyed, it was devastating....still burning now.Joy, must be you gals in N.C. - the furniture moving state! haha I loved driving to Highpoint and looking at furniture when I lived there!
Nighty night!
-
Deanna--ugh, sorry the fires are near you. That's bad--always scary. Please PM me Spring's address too. Thanks.
Kari--So sorry to hear about your fall!! Sounds like a pretty bad one. Hope you could ice it. Like you needed that--isn't jury duty bad enough?
Huge Ass Beers to Go--too funny. No obscure marketing message there...
Joy--furniture arranging must be contagious. You all have inspired me to pull rugs to move them around. It's been bugging me.
Glad your room came out well.
I went to yoga today, although not my favorite teacher but it was ok, then in the afternoon walked the loop with my Beemer. Tomorrow I'm going to hit the gym in the morning--dedicating my elliptical to Spring to send her good vibes!
My DH comes home too after 5 days away--yay! I will not be reporting any "activities" however....
Have a good night ladies!
-
Hi everyone - I do read every day but don't post - you wouldn't believe how hard it is to keep up with two chatty threads and pretend to have a "real" life as well. LOL.
Deanna - same about the fires - we had some tragic ones last year - hope they stay well clear of you. Can I please have Spring's address as well - need to get it off nice an early what with our kangaroo mail over here in Australia.
big hugs
Helena
(hi kari and allie)

Good morning motivated cuties!
I am soooo sore and bruised from that stupid fall yesterday...but I'm ok!!
Just popped over to the NOLA thread that Spring started to check in...lurking there...Spring reported in there 2 hours ago and Allie, great idea dedicating the eliptical workout to her!! AWESOME!!
Allie, you and DH have 'fun'!
Helena, I know what you mean about the chatty threads! I have to get my 'fix' of both! haha We're glad you check in and read everyday too!
Patoo, where have you been too??????
"When you feel like giving up, remember why you held on for so long in the first place."
~ Unknown -
Kari-thanks for the heads up on the NOLA thread. I was thinking about Spring this morning. Hope you feel better after the fall...
Yes there is a lot of keeping up to do although I wouldn't want to miss anything!
We do seem to be missing some regulars--I'm sure everyone is just busy--like Lisa, being TV's newest health guru!
-
Kari--how did you find the NOLA thread? I can't find the search function? thanks...
-
Allie, under "Tests, Treatments & Side Effects + Breast Reconstruction" - Then "NOLA in September"
-
Wow this really is a busy thread. I read as often as I can but I don't always post - I'm not good with time management!!! And with all of you encouraging me I am spending much of my spare time walking and exercising!!!
Uma - How are rads going? Keep using loads of cream and drink loads of water!!
Deanna - Nine years ago DH, DS, DD and I had a wonderful holiday in CA. We spent some time with friends in Pasadena and went to visit Griffith Observatory, the news reports we are getting here were saying that an observatory in the hills near Pasadena was being threatened by the fires and we are thinking that it might be the wonderful one we visited - how sad, such a beautiful and interesting building. I hope you are not affected by the fires although it sounds like you are suffering from smoke pollution. Take Care!
Mumayan - How did the gym go? I often wondered about joining but again time and distance is the thing.
Kari - I really have found this thread to be a lifesaver. I was so down last weekend and really felt that things were getting beyond me. It helped so much to be able to ask for help and to get it so readily. How are you feeling after your fall? Maybe some arnica cream would help.
Kittycat - thanks for your vote of confidence. I'm still doing my best and I keep referring back to all the advice that people on this thread posted for me.
Spring - the very best of luck with surgery. I hope everything goes very well for you and look forward to seeing you back here as soon as you are able.
Allie, Joy, Helena, Diane, Vivre and everyone else - BIG HELLO!! -
I'm still doing the walking and the Wii Fit. Taking the Tamox and Lyrica. As I didn't have recon I am relying on inserts and up to now just had an unflattering foam form (I really was lopsided). I had been measured a few times for a silicone prosthesis but each time I went back they didn't have the right size - as in big enough for me!!! Anyway today I got my new one!!!! I'm looking a bit more balanced and maybe I'll start to feel a bit more balanced mentally now too!!! While I was at the clinic picking up my new foob I also picked up a leaflet for their weight loss clinic, it's a 12 week program either with or without an exercise module. It's a bit expensive - well I've never done anything like it before so I don't know how much they should be €300 diet only €650 diet and exercise, but I'm wondering would it be a good idea. It would entail an 80 mile round trip every second week and as business is dire at the moment I don't want to spend money without giving it some thought - what do you think, have any of you any experience of this kind of thing. The advantage of doing it through this clinic is that they would have access to my files and would be aware of what meds I'm on etc.
Anyway sorry for droning on! We are suffering hospital saturation at the moment. MIL has been in since last Friday for tests (hopefully nothing serious) and FIL is going in on Sunday for a hip replacement (his second within 12 months, opposite side). DD text from France, she arrived safely, it's roasting hot and she is enjoying herself!
Best wishes to all from soggy Ireland!!
-
Spring ~ Just want to let you know that you have been on my mind a lot today, and I am constantly stopping to pray for your surgery tomorrow. I know you'll sail through it beautifully -- as much as anyone can sail through such a long surgery. And even though the first few days after surgery will be a bit rough, with your wit and humor, I know you'll do just great! Tell Richard we'll be waiting for some news, and tell your docs that you have an army of friends here praying for no less than the best job they've ever done!
Kari ~ I hope your poor knees heal quickly. Soaking in an epsom salt bath might be soothing. I feel so bad that happened to you!
Ainm ~ YaY for the new foobie! And as far as that diet & exercise program, what exactly is included? Do they provide your meals and/or a group exercise program or workout facilities? Or is it more just educational material and you're left to do it on your own and they just monitor your progress every couple of weeks?
Well, I have been dealing with an A/C problem all day. One of our A/C units went out (in 110 degree heat, and after spending quite a bit to fix it just a month ago), so I have been on the computer and phone trying to figure out replacing it. I didn't even walk this morning. Just not in the mood in this heat + humidity, so hope to relax and reward myself with a nice swim a bit later. I really need it! Deanna
-
Deanna,
Sorry to hear about your AC - mine never gives problems - oh - that's cause this is Ireland - it's too bloody cold to need AC!!!!! :-))) We actually had to have the heating on tonight!!
The Diet plan is Session 1 (1hr) meet with a dietitian, review medical condition, weight, height, BMI , waist circumference, asses total amt of body fat, metabolic age, basal calorific requirements, review current eating behavior, your 'motivation to change', discuss current lifestyle and diet, set personal goals.
Sessions 2 - 6 (30min sessions) Discuss dietary choices and health behavior following on from previous, review goals.
Aims - to lose weight slowly and safely, be able to identify and challenge existing behavior and attitudes towards food and activity, improve knowledge about healthy food choices, increase awareness of lifestyle risk factors, develop more self confidence about healthy food choices and exercise.
The Diet and exercise one is all of the above plus every two weeks it incorporates a one hour individually tailored exercise session with a chartered physio. This will be done following an assessment of your 'current capabilities'!!!
Aims - have improved fitness level, be in a position to lead a more active lifestyle, develop more self confidence!!
I was just thinking of it as a kind of kick-start. But I'm always afraid of committing to things like this because I might fail!!! There is no food supplied - I guess it looks like you get 6 meetings with the dietician and 6 sessions with the physio - so it works out about €54 a session, plus travel expenses - Hmmmm I could sell all the diet books I have and that should earn me a pretty penny!!! Don't know what to do - but I'll think about it and maybe phone them for some more info. Is there anything in particular you can think of that I should ask them??
Sweet dreams - I'll check in tomorrow - thanks (as usual it's me looking for all the advice!!)
-
Ainm, the diet plan looks good but I really think that you are doing a GREAT job on your own. I would suggest keeping up with your current plan, adding excercises to your routine and making diet changes (which will happen automatically-when you start excercising you will want to eat healthier) slowly over the next several months. Revisit at the end of the year and if you still think you may need this program, give them a call and find out what else is involved. I know there are a lot of online programs that you can join to keep food diaries and excercise notes. Maybe that could be a start? It does sound like you are on your way! We are here for encouragement, too! Thanks for the shout out on the BOT thread
As for me I am going on vacation leaving Saturday for 6 days to the Outer Banks of NC. I plan to do a lot of walking! I have surgery in October to get my expander put in and my R mastectomy straight to implant so my BIG ramp up to working out again won't happen until early February after my exchange surgery. I am a bit bummed but will still be able to walk and do some light Yoga and stretching excercises.Spring.....thinking of you. You will do great! My girlfriend is 6 weeks out from her SGAP surgery and she is SO happy with the results.
hugs

Hi everyone! My visit with my Onc's NP today went great. I really like her, it's the 2nd time I've seen her; she's very positive & encouraging.
My CP 27.29 was at 12, so very happy about that. Everything else on blood work-up was good. She said they like to do that test on early stage bc just to have a mark to work from if needed later and it's just one more piece of the puzzle to use.
She said I'm doing well & to go out & live life. And that I'm still healing emotionally & it will get better as time goes on. All the supplements I'm taking are okay.
Back on the Nordic skier tomorrow morning!! I know one thing, I still don't like the extra 5# I've put on since starting the Aromasin.
I can't get rid of it though I will not give up trying!!
Beverly ~ Thinking of you & hoping you'll recover quickly & be back here with all your Sunshine & bouncyness (is that even a word?!?).
Kari ~ So sorry to hear about your fall. My Aunt had a similar fall & tore her rotator cuff & ended up having surgery, very glad you didn't do anything like that. Wear some cute bandaids, that's always fun!
Ainm ~ I agree with Diane, I think you are doing great. But then, I'm always one to do things on my own, I hate spending $$ on something I could possibly do myself. LOL I would probably try it as Diane suggests first, but it is, of course, up to you. Perhaps you have a friend who lives close by to maybe do it with you?? Whatever you decide, we are ALWAYS here for you!
Deanna ~ I couldn't stand not having AC when it is as hot as it's been in CA. I haven't had to use ours much this summer here in MI, but I'm not complaining!
Diane ~ Enjoy your vaca!
Sweet Dreams Sisters!

Val-so glad you like your new dr--it's so important to feel like you have someone who is listening and interested in helping you make the best decisions you can thru all this...
Ainm--it could be a good program, especially if you think it would be good to have a scheduled follow-up. Then again it could just be info you could get in a book or on the internet and you'd do better creating a program for yourself. It is good that the program is tailored for BC patients as we have "special needs"--ha! But really with arm restrictions, treatment 'hangovers', etc. I know I went to see a trainer that specialized in working with oncology patients--in all stages. It was really helpful as she knew how to help me stretch and strengthen the bad boob side...good luck!
Spring--if you are tuning in--we are all sending our best thoughts for an excellent surgery experience and quick recovery!!!
-
Good morning cuties!
Ainm - I agree with what everyone has said. You have to take into consideration the $$ of course also. Does your dr. office have a nutritionist you could meet with? That may be helpful also. I was pleasantly surprised that when I went thru rads that there was a nutritionist available to us once a week! I know some other gals way way back on this thread talked about a website that you can keep track of your eating, etc...oh Diane mentioned that above!! I would suggest trying things available to you at no or minimal cost first. You also mentioned above that you don't want to fail, well of course you don't want to fail, nobody does, however, we have to factor in that sometimes we may and if we do, we pick ourselves up and keep moving forward. Best of luck, and we're your cheerleaders!!!!!!!! Happy to hear your DD is safe in France. How fun!!
Diane, enjoy the Outer Banks!!!!!!!!!! YAY!!
Val, so glad that your NP is so upbeat and encouraging! Right on! and I love your spirit about the 5lbs and not giving up! LOVE IT!
Deanna, no A/C???????????? OMG, you poor thing, any luck finding a replacement yet?? It was 100 and stifling here and will be again today, but 110!! yikes!
Hi Allie! and to those of you lurking...I can see you!! HAHAHAHA Hi to ALL!
Spring, we love you.
We tend to forget that happiness doesn't come as a result of getting something we don't have, but rather of recognizing and appreciating what we do have.
-- Fredrick Koeing -
oh....forgot to report in:
Took a brisk 30 min walk yesterday and the day before! Spent time with DD after work...dinner, dogs, shops, movie at her house! FUN!!!!!!!!
-
Good morning, everyone ~ Thinking about Spring this a.m., as I'm sure many of you are. Just returned from my hot & sticky one hour walk, and sitting here dripping sweat, which I guess is good -- sweating out those toxins!
Val ~ Congrats on the great CA2729! What a relief, heh?
Kari ~ Glad you're able to keep up the walking after your fall. How're your bumps & bruises today?
Ainm ~ I'm with the others on not worrying about that clinic program right now. I think you have or can find all the tools you need, and I think your biggest challenge is changing your mindset and believing in yourself. I think seeing if you can meet with a nutritionist and a psychologist (both services included free of charge with our tx for many of us here in the US) could accomplish the same thing. I'm also wondering if finding a motivated friend -- someone to exercise with, etc., in addition to us virtual friends -- might be helpful. Also, are you familiar with affirmations and goal boards? I'm thinking they'd both be great tools to add to what you're already doing. In fact, I want to make some new ones for myself.
I got the A/C figured out, although not fixed yet. Fortunately, the unit that's out is just for 1/2 the house -- so we still have some cool -- but it's the bedrooms. I'll tell you, between monsterous electric bills, 2 big A/C repairs and now a total replacement, I'm so ready for cooler weather!
Make it a great day, whatever you're doing! Deanna
-
morning - work is slow so I thught I would check in. aled my Mutt this morning as usual. Been overcast for the past two days.
Diane - have fun in Ocracoke. It is suppose to get warmer and sun is suppose to come out this wekend. How close are you to Boyce? I have 3 grandkids there. My son lives in Hatteras if you wander up that direction. He fishes out of the Hatteras Harbor on the Tuna Duck. I'm still a 2 1/4 hour ferry ride and an hour drive from Ocracoke.
Ainm - We are all here for you and we don't cost much!! But you have to put up with our honest comments. It seems I get more from this board than the doctors. You know the old saying "Been there, done that" ! This group knows more than the normal people. Not that they aren't normal here but you know what I mean. We are a special breed!
Spring - thinking of you and sending good vibes!!
Everyone get up and moving. I better get back to work. Joy
-
Deanna, before I forget, how is your DS doing? Ever pass that stone? I think of things and then when I start typing I forget half of them! LOL! You are such an inspiration to me. You manage to walk an hour even in the worst heat!!!!! My body starts pooping out at 20 min and then my darn hip starts aching...Those are some big expenses, SIGH...
SO, I am one bruised up chickie...my knees, hand, foot, and my left (mx) arm is really sore cause I took the brunt of the fall on that hand/arm and right knee. It sure hurts when I walk, but I will not let that stop me!! Forgot though in the middle of the night when I had to use the restroom and crawled back on my bed on my knees, I tell ya...that woke me up QUICK!! Yikes! that hurt. Thanks for asking and the tips on helping to heal.
Joy, I would just love to visit where you live one day! Sounds wonderful. You haven't been able to kayak in awhile have you?
-
Good evening, ladies! I've been watching all day for news from Spring's DH (pre-arranged that he would email me so that I could let you all know how her surgery went), and here it is, via a friend ~
"Hi everyone -- Beverly's computer crashed last night and Richard asked me to pass on this information about Beverly. She is finally out of surgery and the surgeons said it went perfectly! They started at 8am today and finished around 7pm central, so 11 hours of surgery! WOW! She will be in the hospital at least 3 more days. At this point, Richard still hasn't seen her tonight-- but he said the agony of waiting is now over and he feels relief! They should be wheeling her into her room where Richard is waiting in an hour or so -- and they'll be checking on her every 15 minutes or so throughout the night. Richard says he expects to get a good nights sleep tonight, now that it's all over. He will be staying in the room with her -- he said the nurses will probably say -- 'Can you believe this guy sleeping through all this?!' Sounds just like Richard, huh?!
So, all the good thoughts and prayers have worked once again! So thankful she did so well!"
Deanna

Thanks Deanna.....Spring has been on my mind all day today.
