I often wondered if my weight had anything to do wtih my bc.I am 50 pounds over weight and I am trying to lose weight. Does anyone have any suggestions that could help me lose weight and feel good about myself? Does or did anyone else have this problem and if so what did you do to lose it?    Sincerely, Alabama....

I would talk to your oncologist and see what s/he recommends. During treatment, you're going to need good nutrution so that your body is getting what it needs to fight so you want to be sure this is the best time to diet. Your oncologist probably has a social worker in the office and can hook you up with nutritional advice.  You'll find a lot of people telling you to eat this or that and to avoid this or that, not all of what you hear will be based in science. If you're like me your taste buds will change with chemo-- I had to eat what my body didn't find disgusting--- there were alot of foods, some favorites, that turned my stomach during tx. It's good that you're trying to be healthy-- I'd just stick with your dr's advice at this time for your particular health issues.

I was overweight during treatment.  The doctors didn't mention my being overweight as a factor.  As you go through treatment, I agree with No, you are probably not going to want to eat a lot of things.  I hated chocolate (omg).  I didn't lose weight during treatment, as the stomach meds they give you keep you from throwing up the way people did years ago, for the most part.

I know that being over weight makes you depressed.  It makes you feel bad about yourself.  But you are here, on this discussion board, trying to find ways to feel better.  You should congratulate yourself for that.

Right now, try to focus on getting better.  Each day you make it through treatment, you should congratulate yourself.  Every time you make it out the door to try to do something that doesn't involve lying in bed, feel good about yourself.

The day will come when you are done with treatment.  Then will be the time to worry about getting fit.  After beating cancer, you can do anything.

I'm originally from Mobile, and my partner and I are going to move back when our house here in NY is sold.  I love it there.

    Good luck!
