I don't post much, but just wanted everyone to know that I am celebrating 5 years TODAY. I wanted to share that with others, but it seems like no one is interested in hearing it anymore. So many feelings about it...but really I feel like people just get tired of me talking about it...all the time.

I have a NEW, wonderful husband of 11 months who is very supportive too. Just mentioned my 5 year anniversary to my best friend, who just said "yea, so what does that mean?". See, that is why I don't share it with anyone. Maybe I will tell my husband when I get home tonight...maybe...maybe not.

But thanks for understanding, I appreciate it.

Excellent- it is so encouraging for me to hear your wonderful anniversary news.

I am not even a year post dx and I already feel that I bore people!!! When they ask how I am, unless I smile and say how well I'm doing, you can see them glaze over!!

Congratulations and when you are posting your 10th anniversary I hope I'll spot it and be here to congratulate you then too!!

      YIIIPPPPPPEEEEEEE !!!!!!

So happy for you!  You've found the nickle and on the way to the DIME.

Nah, no one else notices or cares -- 'cept US.

I bought myself a beautiful black (ish) pearl bracelet to celebrate.  Then I took a deep breath and celebrated here on the boards.

I hope you do something special for yourself.  don't wait on anyone else to do it--likely won't happen.  Just feel that special glow that we are sending to you and know we are all smiling and SO happy for YOU>

Jo...when my husband picked me up from work yesterday, I very casually mentioned to him that it was my 5 year anniversary being free from breast cancer. Immediately...he grabbed my hand and kissed it. I told him what it meant and said I hope to be the same way 10 years from now. He smiled at me and continued to hold my hand...sort of in a special way. That made me feel happy that he acknowledged how I felt.

But I appreciate the congrats from everyone here...we only understand each other. Thanks again!

Hey - congratulations!!!!!!  IT is so good to hear this.  I cannot even begin to say how much help this type of news is to me at  this time.  I am still grappling with it all, and haven't yet got my confidence about the years ahead, so am dependent on good news from people like you!!!  Thank you.  Thank you.

Listen, maybe you need to give you friend this website address and suggest she goes research why 5 years really matters........  just a thought

Thanks Jo and Roseann...he really is a KEEPER. Such a kind and gentle man. We will be celebrating our one year wedding anniversary next month. Second marriages for both of us. I will be 55 on the 21st of this month and he is 50. Like I said earlier, I wish I could have experienced this kind of love earlier in my life Laughing

Jo - congratulations on your 5 year mark too :)

Virginia - It took a couple of years before I began to "not think" about cancer all day long. Felt great. I use to look at these threads and wondered if I would ever "feel good" again. I do...and you will be soon be at the one year mark...two years mark...and on and on. Best wishes to you :)

DANCING WITH NED!!!  i am soooooo happy for you and what wonderful news that you get to share it with your loving and devoted husband- double the blessings :-)   i will be 5 years on october 12th from my first dx- i had my labs done last week and they were the best ever so i am counting that as "official" even though i won't see my oncologist until the 14th of this month- yes our friends and family do tend to glaze over when we mention our cancer- oh how they must be suffering listening to us after all these years (yeah- whatever people this cancer is real and we are living it all you have to do is be patient while we share our struggle)- so we come to these boards where we know the support is never ending and given in love- CONGRATS!!! keep the faith ladies

    Yeah!  Congrats to you :)

Question, is it a five year mark from the day you finished all chemo and herceptin if app or dx?

I hope that at my five year mark I have the same man with me that has helped me through this. We started dating in the beginning of June and I was diagnosed at the end of July. He stuck with me through a bilateral mastectomy and said that he is with me through the whole thing. Although I have known him for 12 + years I am so grateful that he stayed with me through this. He doesn't know it yet but I hope he is there to celebrate with me in 2014. You are so lucky to have a husband that understand what you went through but that is probably because he was there for you through your ordeal and saw what you went through. You are one lucky lady.
