Depression & Economics

Options

I don't even know where to start. Last August my home in Tallahassee flooded, then it again flooded in April. I've spent more time in Carrabelle than in Tallahassee because of doing the  reconstructiuon, which we are almost done again. Meanwhile, we are staying in Carrrabelle to help with my 80 year old father who moved in with me & my hubby when he retired at age 60. Then 13 years ago we moved to Tallahasse from Carrabelle. When we moved to Tally my dad wanted to stay in the small town of Carrabelle. Good thing because when the Tally home floods we have Carrabelle to fall back on. I work between the the two cities. Now I'm facing BC and I am undergoing another type of reconstruction.  I am at wits end and so depresssed I can't think straight. I can't imagine what I'll be like when they put me on hormone meds or hve to travel 3 hours a day for radiation. I'm already going bonkers. Can't remember anything. This is the ride of your life, just not a fun ride. I don't have a lot of money and don't really know how to get help. Everyone always says y'all will be OK. But~~~~~~~I'm not. Cry all the time. Don't go out. Spend most my time just in la-la land.

    Brenda,

You have had a lot to deal with. Its very understandable that you are feeling depressed. Please tell your doctor how you're feeling. I think the suggestion of calling your local ACS is a good one, too. You need someone to talk to.

    Hi Brenda,

Sounds like you really have your hands full. If you aren't already on an antidepressant, consider taking one. Since you are crying all the time, having difficulty concentrating and not interested in going out you would probably benefit from medication. Major depression causes a chemical reaction in the brain and it's like a dog chasing his tail, we can't get out of it without some help.

Do you have some friends and family that would be willing to help you out so you could take some time for yourself? When someone asks if you need anything, tell them something that would help you out. Such as a meal, a ride for an appointment, someone to stay with your dad, whatever would be beneficial to you.

Good luck and let us know how things are going.

My dad is pretty self efficient for an 80 year old gentleman. He is happy I'm back in Carrabelle rather than Tallahassee and does feel bad with all our flood issues. I wish I could just sell this home, BUT with all the flooding it is really making it hard. I am just soooo very stressed with my diagnosis of  B/C, this in addition to the home situation is just a bit much.

I guess until I have my surgery (lumpectomy on Thurs. Sept. 3rd) I won't really know quite how serious this is. My surgeon Dr. Snyder said I will have to have at least radiation, possibly chemo, and definitely hormones. When I have surgery, I guess this is when I'll meet an oncologist, and he will give full details of my cancer situation, would this be correct?

It's a big help just having this site to discuss and vent my frustrations and Yellanger.

I appreciate the hugs and advise from all!

    Thanks just for listeningWink

    Brenda -

Here are a bunch of resources in the jacksonville and surrounding areas - for support groups, financial assistance for treatment etc.  Please use a resource, get into a support group and ask a lot of questions, and the same questions over and over, until you have a handle on this.  Insist that your doctors explain stuff to you. It will be okay. Best, Jen,
