Has anyone had trouble weaning off pristiq.   I have only been taking it for about 6 weeks every other day,  I have hated it the whole time.  I told him I couldn't take it anymore.  He has now put me on prozac to help wean me off the pristiq.  I have been experiencing dizziness, nausea and feeling just crappy.  Has anyone else had this problem?

I'm sorry to hear you had bad experiences with this new antidepressant.

I've been on almost everything for the past nine years and have gained a lot of weight.

I know everyone reacts differently to drugs, but I was thinking of switching to pristiq to see if it would help with my weight gain from the other drugs I've been on.

Did you notice any weight changes when you were on it?

I have only been on it for about 6 weeks but I did notice a decrease in my appetite at the beginning but before that I had been on remeron, which they gave me at the beginning of my diagnosis because I wasn't eating from anxiety, etc. It causes you to be ravenously hungry.  I mean I could have eaten dirt and it would have tasted good to me!! So, I'm not sure it was being off the remeron or if the pristiq caused me to have a decrease in appetite.  I think it was a little of both.  I will tell you that I could not sleep when I was taking it.  My body would be soooooo tired but my mind wouldn't shut off.  Another reason I hated it so much.

I've been on Pristq since January. 100 mg a day. I recently decided that I could do without it so my GP gave me 50 mg. to wean me off of it.  NOT!!!!!!. I can tell the differece. I've had several crying episodes over things that I thought I was long past. I'm going back to 100 mg as fast as I can.

    Hi Everyone,

Withdrawal symptoms from psych meds can be pretty bad depending on the person. Were you tapered off of the Remeron? It may be that the symptoms you are having are from starting Prozac. I do hope they settle down for you.

A very slow taper is the best approach for me in getting off of these powerful medications.
