Hi everyone

I just want to see what experience other ladies have with their periods while on herceptin?  I am 36 (35 when diagnosed) and my periods stopped during chemo - they came back 3 months after the end of chemo.  I had 3 quite normal periods and then they stopped again / in the meantime I had started on herceptin.  I was having hot flushes as well as night sweats and GP confirmed that my hormone levels suggested that I was in menopause...  This lasted for a few weeks now all symptoms have vanished, no hot flushes or anything.  Is that likely to be all?? or can hormones change back again?

I would be really glad to know how other people have found, chemo/menopause and if herceptin ever prevents periods

I was 46 when I started chemo. haven't had a period since my first chemo tx feb '08. completed herceptin in may '09. have been having a few occasional mild hot flashes since ending the herceptin but a gyn told me that chemo thru' me way into menopause and I'd never have another period again.

I'm 49-perimenopausal- had missed 2 months of periods prior to chemo-got TCH and my period started very heavily 2 days post treatment. I have the worst cramps and the flow is very heavy. If it doesn't let up soon I am calling my doc.

Hi I am 43 and it seems that chemo put me into perm menopause, I never had a period after first chemo and it has been over a year since first chemo. My Blood levels look post menopausal. The best thing to do is have blood work FSH/LH and Estradiol levels this will give you a fuller picture.

mmm5 - How long do you need to go without a period after chemo before they decide its permanent?

It is a staggered percentage, if you make it one year without period they think it is over 90 percent that you are post menopausal. However there have been women getting their periods after a  year and a half.

I am done with chemo and herceptin since may. I haven't had a period since my fist chemo tx 1 1/2 yrs ago. have been told that I am in chemical menopause. I do occasionally have a bit of a hot flash (more like a warm flash) since herceptin ended but nothing extreme. I was told I would never have another period.

I was 56 when diagnosed and perimenopausal.  I was hoping chemo would push me over the edge.  No such luck.  My period came back 3 months after finishing AC and on herceptin.

My oncologist just laughed and said I had cast iron ovaries.  Finally was declared post menopausal at 58 (enough already, it was about time).

I was one of the lucky ones, never had any of the typical menopause problems - hot flashes, sleep disturbances, mood swings, etc.  However, my mother and grandmother were the same way and my two younger sisters are following the same route.
