Anyone starting chemo in Aug. 08?

Hey everyone,
Bette and Jeaninne, I'm so sorry you're having to do this again, and I'm praying for both of you to get through this quickly and with no SEs, and most importantly, SUCCESSFULLY! Bette, I remember you having problems with your nails, another lady on this site mentioned ice gloves during the chemo to prevent that. Wish I would have known that, while my fingernails have improved, I'm still having problems in my toes, but it's getting slowly better. My chemo guy gave me ice or popsickles to suck on during chemo, to prevent mouth sores. God bless you both!
Gail, I'm so glad you're getting better! What an experience it must have been!
Misty, good luck on starting the new school year!
Corinne, you'll be in my prayers with your new testing. My hair grew back a little curly, but lately it seems to be straightening back out, and the curls are just on the ends. Maybe it's time for me to post a pic! I just never took the time to figure out how to. Keep kicking bug butt!!
Deanna, I'll PM you my address, I don't remember if I have or not.(chemo brain?) Your hair really grew fast! I saw your other pic. I don't know if I should dare color mine? I bought a Frost & Tip, but do I dare use it? Has anyone else colored theirs yet? Just wondering.
Hope everyone has a nice weekend,
Deen

Hello!
Well I've finally got some good news to report! My Dr. is approving me to go on Ixempra! Yeah! I never thought I'd be happy to go back on chemo again. Deen you just reminded me of all the nice SE's. Hopefully they won't be too bad. Dr. mentioned neuropathy, LBC, feet & hand skin darkening. I just remember the constimpation! But I'm ready for round 2. God does everything on his time and like Pastor Hagee says, "God didn't promise you smooth sailing, but he did promise you a safe landing". I believe that. With the order from my Pharmacy group (out of state w/my approval) I'll probably start 9/2. (Told Dr. a white lie I'd be out of town for a funeral next week). Starting my own TX w/the rattlers..SSSSSS
.
Welcome to our great group Keat. Sorry you're here but you can do this!
Deanna: No I haven't heard of PCC. I will check that out. Thx. for market tip.
Bette: I'm thinking and praying for your new TX today. Hope all goes well for you.
Thank you Deen & Misty for the sisterly prayers! My nails & lashes just came back too. Oh well..
Going to the beach tomorrow. Having a bombfire w/the family. Playing Bunko tonight too!
Have a great weekend everyone,
((((Hugs)))) Jeannine
-
Jeannine: I am so happy for your good news. I too will pray for no bad SE's and that God will heal you.
Keat: I too am Her2 positive. Misty has been through things about a month before me on everything so I really looked to her alot with the Her 2 thing. Do you know what you will be on?
I have 2 more herceptin left to go. I finish on Oct. 1st....I think. my thyroid test came back today with no nodules but it did show that I have atrophy. I found this out from my onc. My endocrinologist will be getting back to me on what this means next week. Kinda nervous about my biopsy on Mon. but hoping it is nothing more than a suture coming through!!
-
Hugs to all!
We are now home after 284 miles, and my first action was to take a nap in my own bed.
The first infusion went well. I was praying as those drugs dripped into my veins that they would kick this cancer to the curb. I also got a lot of knitting done on the yellow baby blanket.
So far I am feeling well on Zofran for the nausea. DH is cooking tonight, and so far I am hungry for whatever he creates.
Corinne, what trial are you considering?
Jeannine, why are you going to TX? Good that things are finally progressing.
I just filled out a survey for the retreat we are going to on September 11-12 that Hopkins is sponsoring for couples living with metastatic BC. Looking forward to sharing with other couples in person. sometimes I feel like I am going crazy with all the emotions in my head. Perhaps I will find out that others feel this way, too.

Hi Everyone,
Really baking out here in the desert - hope everyone else is cooling off.
Jeannine - I read about Ixempra - sure looks like it's going to be powerful.
I'm glad you are going to get that started soon. I pray for you and think of our time laughing when you came out here to visit. Let's do it again when it's cool here.
Bette - your workshop is a great idea. I know being with other couple will be a wonderful experience. A BC workshop would be a good idea for me & DH, too.
Hi Deen, how's it going in Texas? Thanks for the good wishes.
Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Gail ~ How're you feeling?
Bette ~ YaY -- one down! You continue to be such an inspiration to me!
Mary ~ Glad that you found us! You know, there's probably also a thread for August 2009 chemos. But please stick around here, too. Although many of us are finished with chemo, I hope we can fill you in on what to expect and cheer you on! Do you know what kind you'll be getting?
Deanna -
One down, number two is next Thursday. Feeling well so far on Zofran for nausea.
It is a rainy Saturday here in PA. Good time to sit inside and knit on the yellow baby blanket I started last week!

Raining again today/ I am STRESSED out today - Alot is happening in my personal life as well as my physical life. I will try hard today to keep my mind stayed on him. I have a chest cat scan this morning followed by a biopsy this afternoon. I would think they could tell me if it is a suture coming through at least today. Anyhow, will check back later. xoxox
-
Corinne, thinking good thoughts for you!!!!! Let us know what you found out.
~Misty
-
Thank you all for praying. I had my CAT Chest scan....Do not have results yet. I went to my surgeon and he said that it is definitely a stitch coming through YIPPEEEE!!!!! Tomorrow I am going for a second opinion at Yale New Haven hospital for reconstruction. CANT WAIT.
Misty thank you for your good thoughts. You are the best!!

Got a call from my dr this morning......My CAT scan is normal!!! Yipppeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bette, Thinking of you so much - hoping you feel better really fast. We are all thinking and praying for you. Update us when you can.
Corinne, I'm celebrating your good news as if it were my own! What a relief to have good news, isn't it. I'm so happy for you. Good luck on the reconstruction, too. And remember, whatever life brings, that horse ride sure helps clear the heart & mind.
Deanna, Thanks for asking - I feel good, slowly getting more energy back. We're up in Lake Tahoe for awhile so cooling off from the 109 degrees in the desert. That helps! How are you?
Hi Dean, I've been thinking about you, too. How you doing?
Hugs, to everyone!
Gail

Bette ~ You have been on my mind all day today. I'm praying that being hospitalized will ensure that your pneumonia quickly improves, so that you won't have to delay your next chemo tx. I'll be checking in here often, watching for some news from you.
Corinne ~ I'm relieved and grateful that your CATscan was clear, and that the problem was a stitch. Let us know how the app't. @ Yale went. Oh, and by the way -- my son also has ties to Ghana these days. Strange coincidence, huh?! He may actually be headed there for business in the near future, as soon as he gets rid of that kidney stone he's still dealing with. We are just praying that it passes before his 9/8 surgery date.
Karen ~ I am really worried about you, and hoping that not hearing from you is due to a computer problem and not a health crisis with your Mom or anyone else.
Gail ~ Breath in that cool mountain air for me! As you've probably heard, it's been miserable here the past few days -- typical August/September humidity on top of our normal, dreadful summer heat. Anyway, hope you're getting stronger each day. Do you take your horse up there?
Alibug ~ After last year, I'm sure it feels wonderful to get back into the normal back-to-school routine! Amazing how all those normal things seem more special now.
Hugs to all ~ Deanna

Hi Girls,
Back to work/school for me today. So much better going back this year than last year!!
Corinne, fabulous news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bette, hoping for a quick recovery.
Hi to all the lovely ladies!!

I WANT TO SCREAM!!!!!!!!!!AH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I went all the way to Yale about 1hour and 45 minutes. I met this surgeon who said,#1) I cant reconstruct until you have a biopsy to make sure 100 percent that that is a suture and is not cancer. No Dr can tell by looking that it is a suture................I made an appointment AGAIN with my surgeon for Monday next week to have a biopsy to make sure that it is DEFINITELY a suture. Don't know what to do about reconstruction. Here is my problem. I am very small in size. I weigh only 103. This Dr said I did not have enough padding to go with my skin if I did a DIEP. He also said that because I had radiation we did not have enough on my back for an implant. He said he could do a possible glutteal and I could add an implant. He will get back to me after he thinks things through and I find out if I am 100 percent sure the cancer has not come back on that little dink I have on my left side. Does anyone have implants after radiation that did not have a hard time???? I need some fat on me and have none!! I only have stretched out skin and stretched out muscle. This could be a very hard obstacle????
Anyhow, Bette we are thinking of you and praying for you. I hope they are taking good care of you. I suspect not quite as good as Tom. You two are so good for each other!!
-
Home from the hospital on antibiotics and feeling much better. Packed for trip to VA tomorrow.
Thank you for the many prayers and good wishes.
Prayers for all teachers and students!
Corinne, I am so sorry about your recon frustrations. I probably have enough fat for a DDD. Wish I could donate.
Bette
-
Corinne, how frustrating for you........glad you are doing some screaming...I personally believe it's a healthy thing to do! Sometimes it's just a matter of keeping one foot in front of the other and getting where you need to be...around or through the obstacles no matter what. Don't let them side- track you - just keep that recon vision. And I will too!
Good news Bette, glad you are feeling better!
And Misty - happy back-to-school days. Yes, a better year now than last year in many ways.
Deanna, sending good thoughts for your son - I sure know we need our kids to be in a good place - it's part of what keeps me happy and healthy when they are. Stay cool!
Hugs all around,
Gail

Hello all!
Well treatment plan is FINALLY in order. I'll be starting chemo - Ixempra & Zoleda next Wednesday. Zoleda is an oral pill I'll take daily for 2 weeks then I go off and I'll get the Ixempra IV. (I begin w/Ixempra) I'll be on chemo 24/7 ugh..but I've got to kick this cancer hard. UCLA Dr. agreed w/plan. Good news is I only do 4 rounds. That's nothing after doing 8. Then it'll be DMX, then RADS..hopefully reconstruction and my life back?
But...this AFTER I go to Texas 'yall! Going w/DH tomorrow for my alternative (yes) Rattlesnake blood treatment. Airfare was so expensive and so were the snakes. Sales guy said if all goes well, he'll refund my money. I've been working with him like 2 months. I need to do this TX before chemo. Wish me luck! (What's the weather like Deen?) Caliente like in CA?
Bette; I am so happy to hear you're home now and feeling better. You poor thing! You are a trooper. I've been listening to an awesome pastor - John Hagee in the a.m. and his daughter had rare cancer and was giving testimony how her faith came to play. It was so inspiring. I ordered her book. "Healing Cancer Through Grace". By Tish Hagee. She says we need to hear & believe encouraging, positive outcome.
Corrine: What frustration! But remember your health is #1. Once you're clear perhaps you can get a 2nd opinion on the DIEP? I know they have restrictions on that surgery. I was too big. I can give you lots of flubber!
Misty: Wishing you a terrific new school year!
MamaK: You've been in my thoughts too. Keeping you and your mom in my prayers.
I'll keep you all posted on my Rattlesnake experience. (They are going to slaughter a live rattler for me) I am excited. (I know...I'm nuts).
Thinking of you all,
((((Hugs))))
Jeannine
-
Hi Jeanine,
Just saw your message - guess we were posting at the same time. Great news for you to get the treatment started finally. I'm thrilled for you and praying for it to be a breeze.
Good luck with the rattlers. Where in Texas are you going? My Mom lives in San Marcos & brother in Austin. Near there? Need a place to stay?
Hugs, your desert sis, Gail
-
Jeannine, great that treatment is laid out now, even the ratllesnakes!
We are up early getting ready to travel to VA. Feeling good, but hair has started to thin. Yuck
Hugs to all for a great Thursday!
Bette
-
Jeannine, I am so glad you are ready to go with a TX plan. But first, enjoy your Texas trip. We will all be curious about this snake TX.
Bette, glad you are home from the hospital. Sorry about the hair-look how well it came back the first time. Unfortunately, you'll just need to be patient again.
Hi to all!!! Misty
-
Jeannine, I am so happy that you are getting treatment. I trust that all will go well and that you will be clear of everything soon. I have listened to John Haggee before and he is good. We prayed for you last night in church along with everyone else. I hope that the rattlesnake thing works and that you have peace in your heart through all this.
Bette: I am praying for you today as you travel to VA as well as your treatment. Now you just stay away fron those germs!!!
Karen: We miss you and hope you are okay along with your mom.
Deanna: How are thiings going for you? I too wear my wig when I go out. I have started to get a little more bold though, and don't wear it when I now go to the Dr's
My reconstruction dr called yesterday...the one that told me I needed a biopsy. He said he has been thinking about what he can do for me. He thinks he can do a diep with some top layer of muscle tissue to insure i don't have a hernia but to give me depth. He said I can also have an implant put in that tissue at a later date and insurance will cover it.!!! That sounded good,. Still unsure but doing a little better. Not screaming in the trash can today!!!
-
Alright MD, VA and PA girls...I am headed your way!!! Hubby was offered a tremendous job. Should be there by Oct. 1! More to come! Hugs and prayers to all!!!
-
Stacy, that is fabulous!!! Looking forward to meeting you soon.
Have a great weekend, everyone.
~Misty

Hi ladies,
Bette, I'm so glad you're better. Hope the chemo is mild for you. I'm sorry about the hair thinning. Mine thinned when I got on the Arimidex.
Gail, I'm glad you're feeling better. Sounds like you are in paradise!
Misty, hope school is going well for you.
Stacy, praying for good interview results!
Corinne, sorry about the DIEP, my PS said I had enough for an A, so I went with expanders and implants, however, I didn't have rads. If you will go on the Exchange City thread under Reconstruction, there are a lot of women that have had rads and implants. Check it out. Also, if you want to see pics, you can PM Timtam to enter the picture forum. That really helped me. Praying for good results of your biopsy.
Jeaninne, where are you going in Texas? I wish I knew! Texas is SO big, but I would love to meet you!! Mucho, Mucho Caliente right now!! I live in the coastal SE Texas. Please let me know!
Deanna, I hope your son is doing well. I've heard it is painful for men. Saying a prayer for him.
Have a good weekend,
Deen
