    Good morning cuties!

    Ainm, I had been thinking about you all last night!  So happy to see your posts this a.m.!!  You are doing such a good job, I just smile when I read your posts...so VERY proud of you and I know you are so very proud of yourself.  Keep it up, I hope you keep getting inspired and motivated here. Hugs.

    Deanna, keep us posted on your DSs appt. and progress.  I know what you mean about your onc visit.  Very disappointing when they don't notice the good we do!  But they do, I guarantee they do, they may just not comment on it.  Keep it up, you always inspire me!  I love my onc, she's thin and in excellent shape, she runs marathons and goes to the gym avidly. I usually bring things up to her, but I usually forget to mention a lot of things.

    Spring, be careful of Hurricane Bill!!!!!!!!!!!

    Vivre, thanks for the reminder of the 'burn'...I was a crazy exerciser in my younger days, during the Jane Fonda feel the burn craze...I haven't felt the burn in quite some time! LOL!

    Thanks soooo much for all the posts. 

    i have already started to go out there and kick some butts(mine!!!). started doing some breathing techniques in yoga, a bit of the assanas too. will strt walking or cycyling too.  a bit at a time.

    Vivre- coconut oil? instead of alovera cream, is it? while rads are on?

    Hi to everyone! The sun is out, a slight breeze and it is raining! I know the surf is picking up here so be careful Spring. Had a great time at the Steel Drum concert last night. There was a great breeze there too and it helped. My mamo came back wonderful and clear.  I don't go back to the surgeon for six months. My ONC didn't say anything about my 2 1/2 pound increase. But I'm still not at the weight I was when this started. I asked about diary and everything and was told just to eat in moderation and not to splurge too much.  She did tell me to exercise and keep that going. Kind of hard to talk about it when she is due in 5 weeks!  My blod is still marginal. They are hoping it is still a set back from chemo and will check it again in 3 months and hopefully it will be back up or then to other steps. Was told it is a slow process and be pateint! That is hard for me. I'm the one that wants instant results.

    Welcome everyone and ya'll are doing so great with moving. Maybe once this humidty gets out of here I will feel like doing some more exercising. At least my yard gets mowed and the car is clean. Even the mutt doesn't want to go out very much. Back to work tonight. Everyone have a great day.

    hello all!

    Vivre, thanks for the bit on "the burn" I did not know that. So if we do weight machines at the gym, we should stop when we feel the burn, it sounds like. And not over do..

    Today a 2.5 hour bike ride! Oh how I love bike riding! You cover way more ground than with walking, and you can explore hidden nooks and crannies everywhere! We have discovered all sorts of secret accesses to the beach in remote areas, etc. You are right Vivre, DH needs his own bike!

    Yes, today is our last day. Leaving as Hurricane Bill kicks up! I am sad vacation is over, and my surgery is now looming closer! :(((   I was able to focus on vacation and not recon surgery this past week. Now all of a sudden, well you know. Time marches on!!

    So, I weighed myself yesterday (first time since my bilat + recon last week).  I lost 4 lbs.  My hubby kept telling me that my rear end was getting smaller.  I thought he was just being nice!  LOL!  I know the weight loss is b/c I am not doing much and not eating a lot either. 

     I lost 16+ lbs a few years ago.  In the last year, I gained about 8-10 lbs, mostly due to stress.  Right before my surgery, I decided I needed to get back into shape.  The Zumba class is perfect b/c it's not too much strain and it's fun (I love to dance). 

    I can't do any exercising right now, while I'm recovering for my surgery.  My PS told me I can lift my arms only to 90 degrees.  I can do a little walking.  Each day I do a little more.  I was noticing that my arms are kinda droopy, so I need to eventually get more tone! 

    On Monday I see my BS and get my full path report to see if my BC was hormone receptive.  I am very lucky that my BC was caught early and was DCIS and not invasive.  In a sense, my sister saved my life.  She was stage 3.  She's been doing great since surgeries and treatment.  She plans to run in the BC walk in NYC next month.

    You ladies are a great inspiration.  This site is awesome!

    Ainm ~ So glad to see that you are sticking with the exercise!  And I know those extra pounds will continue to slip off as you begin to focus on making the healthiest choices, rather than "dieting," which never works, no matter how hard you try.  

    vivre ~  Thanks for explaining what the burn actually is.  I didn't know that, so have at times kept walking/running/exercising to try to reach that point to assure myself I was accomplishing something.  Good to know it's not a good thing!

    kittycat ~  Good luck on Monday!  And glad to know your sister is doing well, too.

    Ah, Spring ... the week went fast, didn't it?!  But it sounds like a good time to wrap it up with a storm coming in.

    Well I swam and did water calethenics for an hour last night, and my whole body was noticeably achey from it this a.m.  I love swimming when the water's as warm as it is this month. I wish we could justify heating our pool year 'round, but it's way too expensive, so I leave it to DH most of the time, who doesn't mind it freezing.  I'm hoping to swim again tonight, as DS and I had to leave the house early today for an app't. with a second urology surgeon, so I didn't have time to walk.  And I'm so glad we went for a second opinion.  I won't go into details, but the difference was like night and day, and totally reinforced my belief about second opinions and taking the time to search for really exceptional doctors.

    Way to go everbody looks like I am the only one that needs motivation. All I did today was houseclean.Tomorrow I will either get to the gym or swim.Iam sure I burned a few calories with all that vacumning.Here is my motivation for tomorrow.

    Hello ladies, Have'nt posted in a couple of days, I have'nt walked in a couple of days as the lymphedema in my leg has been acting up, don't know if it was the heat or what. Hopefully it will subside and then I can continue, or maybe just shorter walks! If any of you have a suggestion on any DVD'S I would appreciate it. Take care everyone and have a good weekend. Kathy

    Kari ~  Thanks for asking about my son.  The surgeon we saw today told us the stone is quite low now, and we are praying he can pass it w/out surgery.  By contrast, the first surgeon had looked at the exact same x-ray and told us he couldn't tell where it is, which means he was either willing to do a possibly unnecessary surgery, or he couldn't read an x-ray!  My son did get a surgery date w/the new surgeon right after Labor Day, just in case, but I'm praying it won't be needed.    Deanna

    10K steps today!!!!!!  I am eating better and feeling great to get in the 5 miles of walking around!  Now if I can get my butt to the gym!  I will I will!

    Deanna, I know what you are going through....my husband has a kidney stone problem and the last attack he had while I was on my way to the onc's during chemo....he took himself to the ER (pain was awful  UGH) and he was told the stone could be too big to pass.  He went to a urologist who told him he may have to have it zapped or possibly surgery to remove.  He passed it about a week later.  Whenever he tells me his lower back hurts I cringe.  His stones have been tested and nothing out of the ordinary was found so nothing he can do to prevent.  Not sure if it is familial or not but his grandmother has had several kidney stones herself.  Crossing my fingers your son won't need the surgery!  The worst of the pain should be over.  Passing it from the kidney through the ureter is what hurts...that and the stone pressing down against the bladder trying to make its way through.  My husband passed his at work and proudly brought it home for show and tell.

    Mumyan: cracked me up, some days that may need to be the motivation awaiting you at the end of all thos laps, (although hopefull not that many glasses)

    Saltykm-Why don't you give TaiChi a try? It is easy to find DVD's and the exercise is all about simple weight bearing exercises, concentration, and meditation. Very good for you! Also, I cannot emphaisize enough how much you should all be doing rebounding, on a mini trampoline. I know it may sound scary, but it moves the lymph like nothing else. When you first start out, you do not even need to jump, you can just bounce on it. If you have lymphedema, you should do this every day. It is so easy just to go over a bounce a few minutes all through the day.

    Deanna, keep telling your son that when things get tough to keep repeating "This too shall pass". (the power of positive thinking). Also, there are dietary chances he should be looking at. Regular doctors never give it much credence but everything that goes into the stomach makes a difference. My husband gets gout, and since I started plying him with all forms of cherries, and made him lay off the hard liquor and beer ( he was never a big drinker, but would get flare ups whenever he did), he has been gout free. I think there is a connection between gout and stones.

    Good Saturday morning you motivated cuties!

    Back from a hot walk and I didn't feel too energized.  Didn't sleep well, it was a really hot night.  Felt like I pushed too much on the walk and couldn't get a deep breath and felt tired.  DH and I stopped to watch the goats and sheep as they move down the trail.  The rancher happened to be there and we stopped and chatted with him for awhile.  He asked us to guess how many animals were there...DH said 250, the rancher said 1,200!!!!!!  He moves his herd all over Lincoln for the 'green' way to mow down the weeds/grass.  So fun to watch all the little babies!!!

    Deanna, I pray your DS can pass that stone, this has been going on for quite some time.  Hang in there, I know this hasn't been easy for you either.

    SaltyKathy, there are so many DVD's out there, my PT suggested Pilates first, then yoga, but whatever you do I hope it helps your LE.

    Going to see both DDs today!  Headed down to the Bay area with older DD to a party that younger DD will be at too.  YAY!!!!!!

    Salty, just wanted to pop in here and suggest a video that's great for lymphedema (either arm or leg). It's by Sherry Lebed, and it's called "Focus on Healing Through Therapeutic Exercise and Movement." It's here:

    Excellent progression that maximizes lymph flow and stretches every part of your body, fun music, gentle but thorough, and you can do it either vigorously or very carefully following surgery. A lot of us "swell" gals use this every day or several times a week to help keep our lymphedema in control. Sherry Lebed is a nut, but the nice sort of nut. Very cool exercise routine.

    Binney, Thank you I will definatly get that DVD since i have lymph.,in my leg and also the risk in my  right breast. i am flying to Vegas in Nov. any tips for the flight to help avoid a flare up? This will be my first flight since both surgeries. I was told wearing underarmour would help, but am I then going to roast? Thanks again for your help. Kathy

    Spent some time at the party last night in Burlingame with both DDs!  After a long, traffic jam packed drive (4 hrs, dreadful) we made it to the party.  I haven't seen a lot of them (this was my ex's family) for 2 years and they were on my update email list through treatment.  My ex BIL came up to me at the end of the party and said "hey man, you don't look too bad, take care of your body"...I had to laugh at that.   I was sooooo exhausted, we finally left the party about 9pm and then hit the traffic from the Raiders/49er game!  We couldn't win! Oh and I was freezing down there!  We live in the Valley where it really gets hot and by the coast and in San Francisco the wind was whipping around (we had to stop at future SIL's parents house) and it was about 60 degrees.  Shock to my system for sure! LOL

    Did Pilates this a.m. and plan on doing something more later!  Need to eat now!

    Best bet for anyone who has been treated for breast cancer is to ask any doctor on your team for a referral to a well-trained lymphedema therapist for evaluation, base-line arm measurements, personalized risk reduction tips, and fitting for a compression sleeve and glove or gauntlet you can wear prophylactically for exercise and travel.     Good Monday morning cuties!

    Got out for a brisk walk last night, stopped and did some arm work until the 'burn', then stopped and enjoyed watching those sheep/goats again, now they're on the other side of the trail and preserve that backs up to some houses.  The sheep were eating through the iron fence of some backyards and eating up their flowers thru the fence.  Someone's gonna get mad I bet.  People were stopping and smiling just watching them.  

    Sorry for those of you in the 'swell' sorority but glad you are finding some exercise to help you and are sharing the info!

    Good morning, ladies ~  Just reporting in and seeing how everyone's doing.  I walked a total of 13.6 miles last week -- not my best week, and I skipped too many days due to other issues, app'ts, etc.  But today is a new week, I've already walked 3.5 miles this a.m., and I'm looking forward to a reflexology treatment & Dolphin Therapy today that my DS gave me for my birthday.   He gave his GF one, too, so we're going together.  I've  never tried Dolphin Therapy, but it's supposed to be ultra-relaxing.  I had a hard time sleeping last night so took something that didn't work very well @  1:00 a.m., but seemed to kick in around 7:00. (Don't you hate it when that happens?!)   I honestly felt like I was sleep walking when I walked this a.m., so I hope I don't fall asleep during Dolphin Therapy.    Deanna

    Deanna, I may have missed it (just back from vaca and catching up on everything!) Did your Son pass that blasted stone yet? Last I read it was lower down and they were hoping he would pass without surgery?

    Diana, you did 10K steps! You are doing it!!!! 

    I on the other hand, have done nothing Sat and Sunday!!! Ack!!! I have got to hop back on that eliptical today, for sure! Enough of this post vacation depression!! lol.

    Tai Chi. I want to try that. I saw mention of DVD's prior. If anybody has one they'd recommend. let me know.
