Anyone taking any supplements?
HI girls,
I'm set to finish my TC trial tomorrow (yay!), so was unable to take any supplements during the trial. I am curious what everyone is doing---there seems to be so much info out there. I know we don't have the same concerns our hormone-positive sisters have, but I'm still confused nonetheless.
Does anybody have any thoughts they'd like to share with me??
Thanks!
Amy

Hi Amy,Congratulations on finishing treatment...Sounds like you were a fine aggressive warrior...Check out the" Alternative, Complementary, & Holistic Treatments" thread. Those women are always engaged in lively debate on the best supplements. My personal favs are Co-Q-10, Vit D3, Curcumins, I3C, calcium, Vit C, and ground up flax seeds. Lots of walking too....Have faith...You are early stage and will do fine (knock on wood)....My best wishes to you, P

Check out the Natural Girls thread...lots of good info and discussion on supplements there

Thanks pennylane and merilee,
I have tried going through the Alternative thread (so much information!) and was trying to narrow down to what some of the Triple Negative girls might be using, so I thought that asking here might give me info tailored to our group.
Anyway, I will keep researching and thanks again,
Amy

I take: coq10, curcumin, boswellia, ECGC (green tea extract), resveratrol, and calcium. I'm on prescription D3 from my oncologist. I eat ground flax seeds on my yogurt.
Exercise is the #1 thing you can do to prevent recurrance. Diet is #2.
Good luck!

i'm triple negative, and this is one of the most confusing issues for me - to use supplements or not! i've done a lot of research and talked to many docs whose opinions i respect, and i've decided to only take my usual calcium 600mg/Vit D 500mg tablet twice a day, and one B-complex pill a day. i am going to be tested for my Vitamin D levels and if i am low, then i will decide whether to start taking extra Vit D (because of the research that having adequate levels of Vit D may both reduce the risk of developing cancer and provide benefits for cancer survivorship). but that's it. no multivitamins, nothing else. i did take multivitamins before my diagnosis. i now eat an extremely healthy diet (trying valiantly to keep cancer from recurring) and based on all the research i've done, i think that's all i want to put in my body and have no need for multivitamins. here are some links that helped me decide:
Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center study about multivitamins and cancer:
http://www.fhcrc.org/about/pubs/center_news/online/2009/02/multivitamin_study.html
General info about supplements and cancer:
i agree with micheleS - from everything i've read, exercise and diet are the main ways we can try to prevent recurrence - and of course not smoking and minimal, if any, alcohol.

I'm triple negative, and metastatic, and I do the Edge CAM regimen, that is recommended on the NoSurrender site.
D3, curcumin, boswellia, resveratrol, ecgc, melatonin, calcium.
I know lots of women do coQ10, but Edge thinks it's only a benefit in endocrine positive cancers.

I take an extra 1000 IU of D, CoQ10 and a daily multi-vitamin each day. I am also confused about what to take. I don't want to take too much or too little. I'm going to have my Vit D level checked next week. I have made an effort recently to drink at least 6 cups of green tea per day. I walk and exercise at Curves 3-4x per week also. I've never heard of Curcumins or Boswellia. I am going to research that right now! Any more info on that would be appreciated!

I am taking ECGC. I heard that ECGC can kill the breast cancer cell. And anyone know if taking Flax seeds is safe for TN people?
-
What is ECGC?
Vicki, I am Chinese. Just sent you a private message. Check it on the up right side of the screen.

What are those supplements? Can anyone explain a bit more and why they are effective?
curcumin, boswellia, resveratrol, ecgc, melatonin

Hi Newalex,
EGCG is green tea ingredient. You can just Google EGCE and Breast Cancer and you can find some article about how EGCE can kill Breast cancer cell. And they are not very expensive.
-
If I drink lots of green tea daily, instead of taking EGCG , will that also be just effective?
