Just DX with LCIS
Hello everyone. I was just dx this week with LCIS after having a lumpectomy & snb for DCIS with microinvastion mass in right breast. I saw the bs on Tues., he didn't have the final path. report, pathologist told him on phone snb was clear as were margins. However, all the tissue removed shows LCIS. I understand that this is not a cancer and just a marker. Family history is one aunt (dad's sis) had breast cancer. I am 47, mom to 3, also have very dense breasts with cysts. I am ER/PR+. Testing done prior to lump. mamo, u/s, mri with contrast, fnb, & core biopsy. I guess I'm trying to gather as much info as I can before I see my onc on 8/28. I've read the risk for someone with LCIS is anywhere from 20-50% of developing bc. Since I've already had bc in this breast would this number be higher? I'm automatically leaning towards masectomy as I don't want to worry constantly about this. What info do you wonderful ladies have to share? I thank you in advance for information.

Babs,
I too had LCIS and chose to have a bil.mastectomy and be done with it. I had the one step reconstrution with implants not tissue expanders. Today I had nipple reconstrution and come home tonight and feel great. I have no pain which I find had to believe. I hope it stays that way.
You might want to check out an old thread I had started when this all started with me. Go to the LCIS section click on it. Go to the bottom of the page and go to page 2. Look for "LCIS with Prophylectic Mastectomy" and read it. You'll get all differant opinions from ladies who chose mastectomy to ones who chose testing and Tamox.
My decision to have a mastectomy isn't for everyone. It was a very defficult decision to make. But, I'm so glad I did it. I'm done with all the testing. Done with my reconstrution. Done with LCIS.
If I can help you out at all please feel free to send me a private message,.
Best of luck

Anne,
Thanks for your response. I did go and read thru all the posts on the thread you started. There is a wealth of info there. Congrats on feeling so great after the nipple reconstruction yesterday! Prayers your way for continued good health!

For those who have chosen bilateral mastectomy, what have you decided to do about allowing blood draws on your arms (i.e. risk of lymphedema)? I assume most people decided not to have any lymph nodes removed?

I checked with my BS after the mastectomy and I was told as long as no lymph nodes were removed it was ok to have blood drawn and blood presure taken.
