Hi, I don't have the same thing as your mom, but I saw your post and wanted to let you know that things aren't always as they seem at first. Until you have had the surgery and all the info is in, you don't have the whole picture. And, here's the important thing--there are many highly effective treatments today.
My diagnosis was based on a sizable lymph node that showed up in my mammogram--based on that, my first surgeon was expecting way more trouble than I ended up with. You just have to kind of take it step by step.
Please don't think the worst; hope for the best. I do think that your mom's diagnosis might be unfamiliar to many women who come here, so you might not get a quick response. You might try putting the diagnosis info in the header on one of the threads and see if someone else has more info.
Good luck.

just because it is only in 5 % does not have to mean it is a bad thing. Also most of the doctors and nurses I talked to generally informed us that cancers that begin in younger women are much more aggressive in nature than that of older women. I second the above comment that you need to wait until all the paths are in and the SNB is done. The original paths from my biopsy ended up being different than the paths after surgery...it completed the picture. I know it is a difficult time for you and her as well. I wish her the best.

Thanks so much. I was encouraged when I read all of the post about grade 3 path reports and how well most are doing. It is good news. I never realized how complicated the staging was. No wonder women are so confused at first. I feel much more confident and know that we need to take things one step at a time instead of looking ahead too much. Thanks again!

Hi Lisa - so sorry about your Mom. I just echo what the other ladies have said, and I know how terribly confusing and worrying all these gradings and stagings and wotsits are - it takes quite a while to understand the subtleties.
I am Grade 3 and not considered to be in a particularly bad way, so take heart and very good luck to you and your family -
warmest regards

Hello all. I'm confused about tumor grades. My path report after mastectomy graded my tumor as II/III. The biopsy report prior to surgery said I/III. All the info I see on histologic tumor grades uses single digits, 1, 2, or 3. Does anyone have further information?
Best to all and many thanks!

Hello. I am sorry abour your mom's dx. You do need to wait until after surgery to get the final on the whole stage. I am grade three. Mine was a score 9 on the Nottingham's (sp?).. which is poor differentiated (not very good). However, I have been in remission since June of 2008... and am doing very well. I have been off chemo (except Herceptin/Tykerb) since August 2008.
It is all confusing ... I still don't totally understand all the parts of the stage... I just know mine was very aggressive.
