MY incession seems huge.....but have the band on he said to being large breasted.

only thing i rememebr is the sential nodes had some inflamation?

oh yea finding out.......pain drugs keep me awake.

still to medicated to look......

family says doc did not sound worried and he is rather blunt one thing I like...

I hope you get good news from the pathology report. I've heard that sometimes the biopsy can cause the lymph nodes to be inflammed a bit. Lymph nodes go into action to handle the fluid and possible infection from injury or infection.

They sometimes (usually?) take out the path of the biopsy so that they get any cells that might have spread so that might be why the incision seems large. In my case they did that. I had a VAD biopsy - I don't know if they do that for needle biopsies. And they might have had to take out some DCIS which doesn't count as part of the invasive tumor size and isn't suppose to mean anything for prognosis. The size you get from the biopsy and imaging is an estimate. You don't know the IDC size for sure until they do the pathology on the lumpectomy.

They put usually steristrips on the incision under the dressing so even when you take off the dressing, you won't get a clear look at the incision until those come off which won't be for a while.

Hi Sally!  My lymph nodes were enlarged and inflammed looking too but they call came back negative for cancer.  I hope yours do too!  Glad your friend will be going over to help you out.  Hang in there!

Most of my discomfort after the lumpectomy was in the underarm area and from what I've read of others experience, that is usually the case. I think it is partly because the breast can swell without running into something but the arm wants to be right against the underarm area. Sometimes it felt like I had an extra arm under there in the way of my arm. Smile A little pillow between your arm and your side below the surgery area to space your arm away from your side can help.

    Hi Sally,

    A gentle hug for you.

I had a tiny tumour as well...4mm and 1mm and some dcis and my nodes were negative.  Quite often the nodes look inflammed and stuff due to all the biopsies going on in the breast.

Try not to worry too much - your tumour was really small so the likelyhood of it spreading is really low.  I believe when I looked mine up they said it was a 13% chance to be in the nodes with being that tiny.  And that is quite low.

Hugs...b4 you know it you will be feeling better.  I was doing gentle yoga a couple weeks after my lumpectomy.

    Kosh.....

Took off the band and bandaides today , left the steri strips as the tape was driving me nuts.

the site sure looks bigger then I expected....oh well just a scare to go along with momma streach marks lol.

yes middle of the night and awake but I am a night worker.

thanks guys for all the input

Hang in there Sally.  You can do this!  You're right, the unknowns (and the waiting!) are the hardest parts of the whole thing.

    update

    well today was an adventure.....

started out I feel good maybe I can get some things done 8 days post lumpectomy...

well as dropping by daughter off to babysit i notice hum whats that on my shirt? coffee?

    nope blood......

within 5 min my shirt, shorts underware was soaked before i could get home.....

being the nurse okay presure and ice, nope still the fountian of red....

ended up in the emergancy room....

evidently fluid had built up and released.....

okay I am a nurse, we are talking blood (besides this is my bloodLOL)   went through 2 outfits that I threw away,

grabed sanitary pads to use as presure used 6 before i got to the emergancy room and 5 more of their pads there....

sent home, told it will drain some now just seeps some......to take it easy , i see the doctor friday anyway for results of the lumpectomy. The doctor seemed far less concerned over this then me.(wasn't her blood!).....and when I asked the 3rd time aboutight keep doing this she reasured me it will seep but the fountian was from build up.

My blood work came back no infection....worn out tonight but ya know just another bump in the road...right gals?
