I first was DX in July of 2008 with IDC had partial mastectomy, got clear margins but very close, had 1 positive node. Had 4 rounds of AC, decide on a double mastectomy. o.k here the question, has anyone had a double mastectomy and still had 1 positive node, it was very small 0.2. what would the treatment plan be. Would I need more chemo or do I need radiation. Also April of this year had thyroid removed, it also had 0.2 cancer cell. I concerned that they all these tiny cells are floating everywhere. So what does everybody suggest.

Hi,
Your post is not 100% clear to me but it sounds like you had 1 positive node still after the 4 rounds of AC plus double mastectomy. And then also some cancer cells in your thyroid gland.
It sounds to me that you should receive more chemo then and also radiation. Plus an hormonal treatment (tamoxifen or an aromatase inhibitor) - but I assume you are already on it?
I am wondering why you did not receive radiation right after the mastectomy but maybe they thought it was a micromet (very small) and radiation was not needed.
In any case, it is good you are ER and PR positive - there are lots of treatments out there. The best advice I can give you is to go to a comprehensive cancer center where you will find the best expertise for treating breast cancer and you get rid of any little cells still out there!
Best wishes,
Helena.

let me see if I can make myself a little clearer, sorry I not good at this stuff. I had 7 nodes took out when they done the partial mastectomy, it came back with IDC with 1 positive node, the surgeon got clear margins but not very good ones, decided to have double mastectomy, but had to do chemo first had 4 rounds of AC. Seen my oncologist he order a scan and a muga scan before starting chemo , the scan came back I had a goiter on my thyroid, he told me that I need to have it check out later on. Did the 4 rounds of AC, after that I went back to my surgeon and he sent me for test on my thyroid long story short I had to have my thyroid removed it came back cancer 0.2 had to do the radio active iodine and that whole 9 yds. Just had a double mastectomy and it came back positive in 1 nodes 0.2. I been wondering why I did'nt have more treatments in the first place. I think this time around I will be getting a second opinion. Getting ready to go to church everyone have a good day and best wishes

Hi,
Well, then it sounds that you overall had 2 positive nodes, So I think at least radiation would be in order if you have not already received that. And it sounds like the thyroid cancer is a whole separate issue from the breast cancer. But in any case, a second opinion is good idea.
Take care!
Helena.
