Dr. Jerry Dr Nielsen was taught by her professor regarding patients who present with unexplained symptoms that
"There is no such thing as a crazy patient, just dumb doctors". (Jerri Nielsen was a doctor who was in the South Pole at research station.. she diagnosed herself with breast cancer...Nielsen was forced to perform a biopsy on herself, as it was impossible to land planes in the extreme cold. Patience is a virtue more easily advocated than practiced. Slowly, but surely, Im learning to take my time not to push myself too hard; not to expect full health overnight. The more I listen to my body, the better it treats me. When you face a tough sickness, remember: The sickness didnt develop overnight. Neither will the cure. Be patient. ---
Good spirits, good friends, good times all these things have magnificent healing power. The surest way to get well is to tell yourself that failure is not an option, and that youll turn a health challenge into an unexpected blessing. Lance Armstrong, who is not a particularly devout sort, quotes in his book a fellow cancer survivor who said, You know, were the lucky ones. I suppose hes right: I not only have gained a more profound appreciation of the obvious things sunrises, sunsets, natures beauty, the love of family and friends but also of things that may seem less exalted. Who knew mashed potatoes could taste so good? Who knew the thrill of little things such as shaving or tying shoes? Who knew that adults can again experience the wonder we felt as little children, crouching down to admire a blade of grass or a passing butterfly? These joys are transferable and people who have made their way through cancer have a chance to make life shimmer again for the rest of us.Tony Snow..Radio and talk show host

A picnic on your bed, shared with a dear friend, is just as good as a trip to the park. S.Hyde
A plastic bottle of soapy bubbles with a little magic wand kept next to your bed can provide you with many moments of joy. S.Hyde
Gilda Radnor once said, Cancer is probably the most unfunny things in the world, but I am a comedienne, and even cancer couldnt stop me from seeing humor in what I went through.
It was a while before I felt like laughing following my cancer diagnosis. When I did, at first I felt guilt, but boy, did it feel good. Laughter actually increases our natural painkillers and reduces stress hormones.Gilda Radnor -

CANCER is so limited.
It cannot cripple love.
It cannot shatter hope.
It cannot corrode faith.
It cannot destroy peace.
It cannot kill friendship.
It cannot suppress memories.
It cannot silence courage.
It cannot invade the soul.
It cannot steal eternal life.
It cannot conquer the spirit.

Praise to the Women on My Journey
To the women on my journey
Who showed me the ways to go and ways not to go,
Whose strength and compassion held up a torch of light and beckoned me to follow,
Whose weakness and ignorance darkened the path and encouraged me to turn another way.
To the women on my journey, who showed me how to live and how not to live,
Whose grace, success and gratitude lifted me into the fullness of surrender to God,
Whose bitterness, envy and wasted gifts warned me away from the emptiness of self-will.
To the women on my journey
Who showed me what I am and what I am not,
Whose love, encouragement and confidence held me tenderly and nudged me gently,
Whose judgment, disappointment and lack of faith called me to deeper levels of commitment and resolve.
To the women on my journey who taught me love by means of both darkness and light,
To these women I say bless you and thank you from the depths of my heart, for I have been healed and set free through your joy and through your sacrifice.
By Rev. Melissa M. Bowers

Dying is a wild night and a new road...Emily Dickinson
Emily Dickinson was present to the process of her dying when she said these words.
She seemed to be fully with herself and, at the same time, open to what would come. When we think of our own death, most of us hope that we can be open to the moment.
All too often, the idea of dying and the experience of slowly killing ourselves through overwork is something with which we have become comfortable. It is the living of our lives at each moment that terrifies us and that we seek to avoid.
Luckily,we can get through this terror and come to know that we have all the caring support we need to live our lives.

There is no such thing in anyone's life as an unimportant day.
Alexander Woollcott -
You are....
Strong when you take your grief and teach it to smile,
brave when you overcome your fear and help others do the same,
happy when you see a flower and give it your blessing,
loving when your pain does not blind you to the pain of others,
wise when you know the limits of your wisdom,
true when you admit there are times you fool yourself,
alive when tomorrow's hope means more than yesterday's mistake,
growing when you know who you are but not what you will become,
free when you control yourself and don't try to control others,
honorable when you find your honor is to honor others,
generous when you can take as sweetly as you give,
humble when you do not know how humble you are,
thoughtful when you see me as I am and treat me just as you are,
merciful when you forgive others faults you condemn in yourself,
beautiful when you don't need a mirror to tell you,
rich when you never need more than you have.
You are what you are and that is enough for anyone to be loved.Author Unknown
