Silique form

Options

I just saw on-line that Silique has a leisure form that's filled with the same micro beads they use in their comfort lite form.  I'm very tempted to try one for swimming and sports.  As I'm a uni-boober, it's a bit hard to match the foam forms.  I have a couple Amoena 126 that are a little bit small for me since I've gained some weight.  I ordered the next size up, and it's way too large.  So maybe the Silique might be just the ticket.  I would think they'd tend to drape more like a natural breast too, especially ina  sports bra.

I also noticed that Amoena has come out with an identical form to the Silique, at about triple the price!  I guess maybe the patent ran out on the Silique.  The Silique is so much more comfortable then a regular form.  It doesn't make me sweat at all, and it's sooo light!

If I order the leisure version, I'll let you all know how it worked out.

    Hi mthomp,

I've noticed that the Silique form is now being marketed under the Airway label (are you sure saw it advertised as Amoena?). I saw it for sale on at least one online site as an Airway form. You're right, the price has taken a huge leap. If you want to order at the lower price, I think they're still on sale as Silique on some sites, including parkmastectomy.com. I don't understand the marketing strategy--it seems as if they've licensed it to Airway but are still also selling it as Silique.

I've tried the Silique leisure form--it's soft and light as air. My only complaint is that the edges don't sit flush the way the Amoena 126 and other foam forms do. If you look closely at the photo online, you'll see what I mean. But in the right bra, it works well and is very comfortable.

Speaking of the Amoena 126s, I was disappointed recently when I ordered a pair of new Amoena 126s to replace my well-used pair. They've apparently changed their formula. My old labels say the inside was latex foam, now it's polyurethane foam. The new version doesn't sit against my chest as well and the sizing is different. Very disappointing.

I understand ABC has just introduced a new leisure form that uses memory foam. It's called First Form and its number is 916. I've seen it for sale on two websites, one of them Park Mastectomy, whose owner said she'll call me as soon as she's received one of the forms to look at, to let me know what it's like. If it sounds good from her description, I may give it a try. I'm always looking for the lightest, most comfortable forms available. It's nice that new products are being introduced all the time.

You'e probably right about the form being Airway, not Amoena.  Just rack it up to chemo brain!  I did see that Park Mastectomy and Trukare still have the Silique form, though.  Only $95 if they have them in your size.  It looked like the smallest Park had was a 5, which is what I have.  Tempted to buy another one before it's too late!  I'm more then willing to pay $95 out of pocket, but no way am I forking over $300 plus!  Quite a markup, huh?  I was thinking that it was the Silique form, being sold through Airway.

I'll be able to get a new form through insurance in 2 or 3 months.  Unfortunately, the shops that handle my insurance only have about 3 or 4 forms that my insurance has "approved".  Anything else I would have to pay for out of pocket and then try to get reimbursed from the insurance company for the "upgrade".  It would actually be cheaper just to buy the Silique for $95 myself while I still can.  Having 2 would be a good idea, since it takes a while for the beads to dry out.

I do like the Amoena 126, but the size just doesn't match my breast, especially after I gained weight.  It's amazing how much size difference there is between the 6, which is what I have, and the 7.  You could fit a whole 'nother size in between!  How has the sizing changed - are they larger or smaller, or shaped differently?

I'd be interested in hearing how the ABC foam form is.  Please post here and let us know what you think of it.  I really need to find something that is closer to the size of my remaining breast.  Being a singleton can make it pretty tough sometimes!  None of our local shops seem to carry any foam forms, since I would guess they aren't as profitable, so I pretty much have to take my chances and order online, and return if it doesn't work out.  Now this kind of made me chuckle - there was an on-line store that was selling the Amoena 126 for over $200!  Obviously, they really don't really want to sell them!

Good grief, $200 for a 126! That's pretty ridiculous. I do agree with you that local shops tend not to carry the foam forms, or if they do they are emphatic that you also need silicone. I called one of the stores in my area to ask about the new ABC form, thinking it would be great if I could try it on before purchasing, rather than ordering it online, but the fitter I spoke with hadn't even heard of it. Then, when I explained what it was, she asked me (somewhat accusatorily), "What would you use it for?" I explained I like light forms for everyday wear. She seemed distinctly uninterested in encouraging that.

One small warning about the Silique forms. I recently decided to do just what you're thinking of and order a second pair of Comfort Lites while the price is so good. I ordered them from TrueKare, but when they arrived they didn't look like my original pair--there was thick stitching bordering the form and the form wasn't as full. I returned them for a refund.

A couple of weeks later, I called Janet Park at Park Mastectomy to ask whether she'd had any issues with the Silique forms and she said some customers had reported the same kinds of problems to her. It's apparently a manufacturing problem, not a change in design. Janet drop ships her products (i.e. she submits orders to the manufacturer and they ship the product directly to the customer), so she's not able to check things before they're sent out. But if you ordered from her and there were a problem, I'm sure she'd work with you to make it right--she's a lovely person and has bent over backward when I've had a problem with an order.

I'll let you know when I learn more about the ABC form.

Thanks a bunch for the heads-up on the Silique!  My current Silique is a pretty good match, but if it's less full then that could be a problem.  I think I might have gotten my form through Park, but to be honest I really can't recall.  Guess I'll have to check the box, since that's where I put the invoice.

That's kind of disappointing.  Regular silicone forms, even the light-weight ones, seem to pull my bra down lower on that side.  If I tighten the bra strap too much, then it rides up.  I don't have this problem with the Silique.  The foam forms really don't work if you want a close match.  For swimming/exercise, I really don't care, but in street clothes I like to look at least somewhat matched!

It surprises me that there'd be any stitching at all in a form like that.  On my form, it looks like it's fused/glued together, which is what I would expect.  I would only expect stitching on a leisure-type form.  Almost sounds like they're putting their leisure form into a partial shell so they can save on manufacturing costs.

Once again, thank you very much for your input.  I figured that you would be the go-to person with questions like this!

I will be assisting with a fitter traing session for ABC in Nashville on Tuesday.  I will be the person who will be modeling all their new poducts.  I will call Ann and ask her to bring the First Form and I will try it and see what I think.  I will let you know something!

    mthomp,

Don't despair. I think the ones I got (and returned) were a manufacturing mistake. Janet Park said they're supposed to be the way you described and the way my originals are, with a fused edge. So you could try to order another pair and hopefully they'll be as good as the ones you currently have. I certainly hope so because, Iike you, I find them unique--as comfortable as foam forms but natural like other less-comfortable silicone forms.

    Bennetts1,

That would be great if you could share what you learn about First Form. It's also known by its number, 916. I look forward to hearing (reading) what you think! Hope you enjoy the modeling experience. . .

I tried the First Form today and I loved it!  It was very comfortably...like I was wearing nothing at all.  I normally wear the ABC massage form, and  I could not believe the difference in the two.  I would not wear the First Form everyday, but for exercise, it would be great!

    bennets1,

Glad you liked the First Form. Just wondering, what did you think of the memory foam? Is it soft? Also, how about sizing? I understand they only come in 2, 4, 6 etc. I'm usually a 3. Would you recommend going up or down a size? Thanks!

I loved the memory foam.  It was so lightweight and soft.  If you normally wear a 3, I would recommend you go up to a size 4.

I had my implants removed and have the Amoena 273B silicone forms. My problem is the are so hot against my skin. They are heavy also and cannot wear them very long.  Granted the weather here runs 100 to 120 in summer and winters are 80 to 90 degrees. My question is : do you or anyone know of a form that is cooler and lighter weight. Have you or anyone used the Silique comfort-lite forms? I would appreciate any information you can give me.

    Hi Lisa-from-yuma,

The Silique Comfort Lite is cool and much lighter than any other form on the market that uses silicone. I have a pair of them and find them very comfortable. I also wear Amoena Climate forms sometimes--they are very lightweight and they have a pad on the back that really reduces perspiration because you don't have the silicone right against the skin. I find the silicone really heats up against my skin, even in a pocketed bra. The Amoena Comfort Plus forms (Natura and Individual) are also supposed to help lessen perspiration and are also lightweight.

You might want to check out my non-profit website, BreastFree.org. I talk about a number of these forms and have links to pictures of them. Just go to the Breast Forms section and read through it. I also recommend some nice non-silicone forms that are light and comfortable for everyday wear.

I also wanted to reply to bennetts1's post above. I hope she's still checking this thread occasionally. I appreciated the feedback about the memory foam form. I decided to try a pair out. They are a nice addition to the leisure forms currently available. The shape is nice and they stay in place well. But I wish they were softer--I didn't find them as soft as described. Still, they're a good alternative to the Amoena 126, which is now being made using polyurethane foam instead of the latex foam that was used in them for years. In my opinion, the new 126s aren't as good as the old ones--they're a tad lighter, so don't stay in place as well and they don't taper well along the edges--so I'm on the lookout for alternatives.

    Barbara,

just wanted to tell you I got my ABC 916 First Form today. I like the shape, and it feels comfortable. But not nearly as soft as the Silique. After a week with the Silique, they are my most favorite form...way better than my pricy Radiant Impressions. In fact, DH approached me from behind and gave me a playful squeeze and commented on how lifelike the Silique felt. Thank you for putting us on to them!

    Hi Moissy,

I just learned that Silique will soon have a new form--a weighted foam form. I'll be trying it as soon as it's available and will report back. I'm hoping we'll have yet another good alternative for leisure activities.

I'm so glad you like the Silique Comfort Lites--my DH also enjoys their lifelike qualities Smile.
