Hi Everyone,

I was diagnosed as having atypical lobular hyperplasia.

I had my sides re-read by David L. Page, he said "no formal patterns of atypical hyperplasia"

Not sure what that means, but it seems it was downgraded.

David L. Page is a good place to have your sides read for a second opinion.

I am not taking any meds, just careful follow up.  Mom had BC post menopause

I would guess the same, though I would check with your clinician. Its the 'atypical' adjective that particularly puts you at higher risk (if you have ALH.)

If you/your trusted clinician thinks you do have ALH, then you/they may consider excision (if the ALH was found on a fine needle or core biopsy.)  There is controversy if excision is required for all cases of ALH or LCIS found by fine needle or core biopsy.

Excision would not be to remove the ALH (if any), but to make sure there isn't something worse going on in the area.

    Hi leaf,

i have read many of your wonderful informative posts, thank you!

I had mri vaccum assisted biopsy, almost two years ago.

At the time I was on bio-identical hormones.  I wanted to wait and see if I went off the hormones if the lesion would go away, it did.  so all involved decided no excision was necessary nor meds.

(lesion was only seen on an mri, not a mamo)

i go for a follow up mri in nov, my mamo this last month was fine, with less density in my breasts.

i was a big advocate for bio identicals, but after having gone through this and seeing that lesion go away, that was on my mri, in plain site, i stopped.  the first 6 months was extremely difficult, but now I feel good.  My body needed to adjust to the diffiuclt levels of estrogen/P4 etc.

I stay very imformed and have read millions of articles on the subject like you.  It was a very difficult decision because of the lack of real knowledge and understanding into atypia.

    Best

ps david l page had told me i could stay on the bio's based on research, but i do not want to risk it
