August 9th works for me and Flatirons would be convenient.  Count me in ladies.

California Pizza Kitchen?  It's easy to find.

Hi CO sisters!  I'm on the north side of Denver.  Aug 9 sounds good for me to get together.  Would love to meet everyone.  Let me know what time and where!

This is going to be fun getting together!

Let's share a bit about ourselves.  Where did you all have your surgery and/or chemo?  I go to Dr Caskey and had my surgery at Lutheran in Wheat Ridge.  I'm still on Herceptin every 3 wks until next Feb.

Any quilters out there?  I'm retired and live with my two German Shepherds.  Here's a photo of them at my daughter's mountain house.  Julie, you should post a photo of your dog too.

I know that I am the odd girl out....living in se denver vs the north metro area.  My sundays are ususally not busy, but the 9th has two things going on....From 12 - 2pm, I have an engagment party for one of my bff son's....then at 2, I have something for another dear family friend.

I could probably meet later in the day... What time are you thinking of meeting?

Not sure I know where Flatirons is?  is is the newish mall off 36?

Denali...the first time I read your post, I read quitters!!! not quilters!!!!

Oh goodness, Karen, read that quiLters.  We aren't quitters, we're warriors!

I could meet a little later in the afternoon.  Are we talking 4 or 5pm?  How about it ladies??

I LEARNED HOW TO HAND QUILT YESTERDAY!!  Chemo brain and all.  Also, I have a splint on my right hand, the hand I sew with of course.  But I can do it!  Amazing!

OK a bit about myself.  I am also a quiLter (like Linda).  Kudos to Linda for learning how to hand quilt with her dominant hand in a splint!  It's really hard to do without any impediments.

I work for a group of clinics that serve low income mostly Hispanic patients.  I am an RN but work with computers and don't do patient care anymore.

I live with my DH and stepdaughter in a home that is in the process of major renovations.  We get to do a bit more, however, because we were hit really hard by the 7/20 hail storm!  Yippee skippy!

My BS is Dr. Brew and I also had my mastectomy at Lutheran hospital.  I just had my exchange done there as well.  My PS is Dr. Mouchantat who is in Wheat Ridge.

I am really open to any time that works for everyone.  Just let me know and I'll be there.

Hi all - I'm open to just about any time/place. So, I'll wait to see what the majority want to do.

I don't know how to quilt - or sew (other than buttons).....LOL!  I'm not very domestic at all and my husband has learned to be very pleased with home cooked meals cause they don't happen every night!  I work at a company that is trying to get FDA approval for a heart failure medication - I'm an Admin, so I sit in front of the computer most of the day.  I have a 19 (almost 20) year old daughter and a 4 month old grandbaby.  My BS is Dr. Finlayson at the UC Breast Center and that's where I had my mx and my treatment (chemo and rads).  My PS is Dr. Massey and I'll be having recon surgery on August 18th (unless I chicken out) down in New Orleans.

I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone in person - I hope this works out!

Karen - first time I read your post above I thought it was 'quitters" also......LOL - that'll teach us to speed read!

It looks like Karen is the only one who CAN'T meet at lunch. Karen is there a time that you CAN commit to that day? And yes, the mall is just off Hwy 36 in Broomfield.

I'll leave it up to Karen. If she can come later in the afternoon, say 4-5ish, then that's cool. If not, then lunchtime works best for me. Let me know soon so I can email Dannette in Littleton. I'm looking forward to it!

(I can't sew a stitch, but I've always wanted to learn to quilt. Maybe you all can take pity on Laura and me? I do make jewelry, though. My breast surgeon was Dr. Finlayson in Denver. Then Dr. Massey did my SGAP surgery a couple months ago in Charleston. I'm a nurse practitioner who's had bc twice. I live in the foothills above Boulder.)

I'm a non-quiLter/sewer.  I wish I could sew.  I'd love to make my own clothes.  I just don't like what I see in the stores.

The same Dr. Massey in two different cities?  How does that work?

Lunch works better for me than later in the afternoon or evening, but I can be flexible most of the time.  Let me know.

I'll be bringing my friend Sue if she's available.  We were diagnosed about the same time and met during chemo.

I'm going to make a command decision here and say let's do lunch. We'll miss not having Karen with us, but I'd like to think this will just be the first of many meetings for us--the Denver-North chapter ot BCO! If that happens, we can have a set schedule, and get on everyone's calendars early.

So, noon at the Flat Irons Mall, inside, at the California Pizza Kitchen. Let's meet in front of the restaurant.

    Sound reasonable?

Ohhhh, I like that, Anne!!  This will be just the first of many meetings!  The time and place sounds reasonable to me.

Karen, maybe you can 'pop' in just to meet everyone??

Anne - thanks for making a 'command decision' to get this finalized.  I'll be there at noon on Sunday!

Firni - hope your friend Sue can come also.  And, yes, Dr. Massey works in both cities.  She actually works in 4 cities (Charleston, New Orleans, Chicago and Salt Lake) - she travels to each location to be more accessible for her patients.  When I have my 2nd stage surgery in December I'll be going to Chicago for that.

Karen - we'll miss having you there, but like Linda said - maybe you can drop in for a quick minute?

Julie - did the hail damage renovations that were already done?

Looking forward to meeting everyone next Sunday!

I'll try to remember my camera too.  I'm sure we'll be a beautiful and interestingly breasted group!  My breasts are still trying to decide where they will end up.

Our new renovations, a covered patio, new windows and new siding were undamaged.  DH and I are very grateful for that.  Our roof, that we planned to replace in the next few years, now needs to be replaced.  Some might say "yeah a free roof" but we are a more than ready to be done with revovations, workcrews, dumpsters, and debris in our yard.

I'll have to admit it was interesting to see the reaction of the contractors when I would answer the door with my drains in full view.  Not a single one was brave enough to ask about them!

    Julie,

    You had drains post exchnage?

I had one drain in so long post GAP that I just quit trying to hide it. If it was showing at Safeway, so be it! Great excuse to have the kids carry my groceries out to the car!

    Anne,

We have been having work done on our house on and off since January.  I was answering the door and talking to contractors after my BM in April.  I had four drains and consider myself very lucky to only have to live with them for a week.

No drains for my exchange although they may have helped since I developed a hematoma on one side and still have some bruising a month later.

    Julie

I added an avatar of my dog Geyser and I running some mountain trails.

Linda and others....sorry that I can't make it at lunch time....We have an engagement party from 12 -2....its my bff son....not something I can miss....then we have a "family" bbq....b'day celebration....you know the type of family that is not blood but even better. Again not something that can be missed...the b'day boy is my sons best friend and his mother was my truly bff but sadly she passed away suddenly 6 years ago.  But I am fortunate that our families have stayed close.

Flatirons is a good 1/2 hour from where I live, so a quick drop in would mean over an hour....

Anne, glad you made an executive decision, but disappointed as I could probably have done 5pm...but maybe another time..... rest of Aug is not good for me and sept will probably also be shot as far as week-ends....hopefully someone will post pics (and label!!)   My oldest DD is getting married in just unde 3 weeks....the clock is ticking.....

Have fun....maybe another time.....I'll be lucky and get to join everyone.

    Karen,

We will miss you. You have a whirlwind day going on Sunday!

We'll take pictures and post them. And set up another meeting for a few months down the road. I'd love for this to become a regular get-together thing. We'll chat about it, and set a date that everyone can put on their calendars.

I think most of us live at least 30 min from Flat Irons. It is a time committment. And an earlier time seems to bode better for more time to spend together before rushing home to make family time.

    Till Sunday...

This all sounds great, ladies.  It will be good to meet the Denver-North Chapeter of BCO.  See you on Sunday!  I believe Sue will be able to come along.  :)

Well, THAT was fun! Great to meet everyone, from bco and their friends. What a wonderful group of women. I have sent an email out to everyone who was there, with our addresses, etc. When I get a minute to fool with photobucket, I'll post the table shot.

Is there anything more amazing than herding off to the restroom for a show-and-tell in front of people you just met? And meeting more survivors while you're there?

Next meeting tentatively Oct 4. Hope we can get a few more locals then.

    Hugs,

    Anne

Hi all - It was soooo nice to meet each of you and get to know you a little.  And, it was terrific to see such wonderful success with surgery!  Can't wait to be on the other side of surgery and look like that also!  Really looking forward to seeing everyone again in October!

Hi everyone.  Sorry I missed lunch yesterday.  I took my son to the airport and his flight got delayed and I ended up staying there with him for several hours.  I only see him a couple times a year.  What can I say.  I'm so looking forward to seeing some pictures and hopefully, make the meeting in Oct!!!!

We missed you, Firni!! If you send me your email, address, phone #, etc, I can put you on the mailing list, and send you a copy of the list we amassed yesterday. PM me, if you'd like. Otherwise, we'll be posting notes here for the next gathering.

We had a really nice mix of cancer survivors and women who had surgeries to reduce their risks due to family history or gene testing or just plain "bad boobs"/ADH. Some with implants, some with SGAP, some with no recon at all. I hope you can join us next time!

It was a great get-together!  It was like having a lovely group of instant friends!  Looking forward to the next one in October and hopefully some more ladies will be able to join us!

Thank you Kim & Anne for sharing your "results" - it makes me really look forward to my time in NOLA in a few weeks!
