Question: How long?

From the time you were diagnosed how long did it take before you had chemo or surgery?    I've had a kidney cancer thrown my way while testing for the breast cancer.

I found out I had bc on May 22.

Met with Breast Cancer Team on June 10 (underwent 2 days of ct w/scans, bone scans, etc.) got the "all clear" except the kidney tumor on the lower pole of my kidney.

Met with uro and had kidney biopsy.   Grade 1 slow growing cancer and will have it removed.

I had surgery on July 30 to remove kidney tumor.    Huge success.

Have my first consult w/oncologist on August 28 and should start chemo the 1st week of September.  I'm having neoadjuvant chemo and then bilateral mastecomies after that.

So, from the time I found out about my bc until me getting my 1st treatment it will be 3 months.   When are you are the one going through it 3 months seems like an eternity but I hear that's pretty much the "norm".

What are your expereinces.

Hi Tabatha - so sorry that you have to join this group, but glad that you found us...how awful to have the double whammy of kidney and breast CA!  Are they related to one another or totally separate findings?

I was diagnosed early in February, had my surgery later in the month and began chemo the middle of March.

Hope you find the support and information here that you need....

nope, they are not related at all.   Separate findings.   They said I've probably had the kidney one for 5 years or more and that these are often called "incidental" cancers because they are so slow growing.  They took it out and I'm done.    Answered prayers!

I had surgery in April 2008  for the lump another in May for the lymph nodes and then started chemo in June until September.  So it sounds like things are going along well (timewise) for you.  Hoping all goes well for you.  Remember we are all here anytime you need us.

The standard thinking is not to wait past 6 weeks after surgery. So if you have your breast surgery you should start chemo within 6 weeks after that date. However you had a monkey wrench thrown in with the kidney and I am not sure if you are doing chemo prior to surgery. you may wnat to move up the chemo a bit if you feel well enough.

Trip neg is an aggressive cancer and I had Her2 which is also aggressive so I felt I needed to start asap.

I had an excisional biopsy on May 22, then met with the breast team, tested, found the kidney thing, had surgery for that on July 30 and now am starting chemo at the end of the month.   Talk about a monkey wrench is right!!!!!!    lol

It can't go fast enough for me but "they" the norm is between 3 and 4 months.

My first tumor (medullary) was growing like crazy. They thought it might be as big as 7 to 9 cm, so they slapped me into the surgery schedule within a week of diagnosis. (2005 tumor ended up being 4.5cm) Chemo started two weeks after surgery. Got a new primary (IDC) in 2007, but it was much smaller, so they didn't rush me through the system.

I found the lump on 4/11/2009. Had a biopsy on 4/25/2009. Diagnosed on 4/28/2009. Had double mastectomy on 5/21/2009. I started my first chemo on 6/15/2009. Although people say I was treated quickly, it sure felt like FOREVER. The waiting is just so horrible.... My breast surgeons nurse told me that one thing breast cancer will teach you is PATIENCE......Well it is still teaching me that one...lol

    God Bless All of You

In my case, I had a biopsy on 9/8/08 and that was DCIS. They did not hurry and said I must wait 3 weeks to make a mamograph as the bleeding from biopsy may be hard to read on a mamo. I did not wait and went for a mamo within a week and no tumor on a mamo and all they saw was calcification. I went in for surgery on 10/2 and after surgery they found a 1cm tumor invasive within the DCIS. I started chemo on 10/28.
