Please help me design my tattoo...
I am coming up on my 1 year anniversary since my BC diagnosis and I want to honor the day by getting my first tattoo. But I am struggling in finding the right one to get. I want something simple, yet beautiful...and one that will have some meaning for what I've gone through and come out of. I have been thinking about something like a butterfly carrying a pink ribbon, or a rose with a ribbon running through it, a cross, and others. But I just can't decide and would love some new ideas to consider. What do you all think? Please help ... thanks!

I would think a butterfly with the ribbon in the middle as the head and bottom of the butterfly......It's hard to explain...And i don't have a drawing program.....PM me your addy and I will send you the drawing I have in mind......Congratulations on 1 year!...I am 2 1/2 years out myself but never got a tattoo......LOVE the Tee shirt!...I am thinking of getting one that says Yes these are fake My real ones tried to kill me!.......

Beautiful and tatoo really don't go together in the same sentence, but I wish you luck in finding something you like.

I have been thinking about getting a tattoo honoring my journey as well. Since I am an animal lover, I have thought about a small kitten or puppy with a pink ribbon for a collar, or a kitten and puppy pulling on a pink ribbon together. I am afraid that what I want will be much bigger than the space I am considering for it.

Whenever anyone comes on here thinking about getting a tattoo honoring her bc journey, I post this url: http://www.tattoojohnny.com/search.asp?k=pink%20ribbon&page=8 The images are so nice and, of course, you can personalize them any way you or your artist likes!

These are great - thanks all!

Does the tatoo HAVE to have the pink ribbon thing?....I have 2 non- BC tatoos. Don't rush in getting one...especially with a pink ribbon, unless thats what you really..really want.
-
Personally, I would do something that did not directly relate to breast cancer. I would do something that was symbolic to me but that did not say anything about breast cancer to others. I would absolutely NOT do a ribbon. I am sick of breast cancer ribbons!
Almost five years down the road, I want to move beyond my identity with cancer. I don't want people to keep thinking of me as a cancer victim.
-
Kate I agree.
The ribbon thing..is not me. For me..that would be the biggest reminder and a big "hey look at me..I had BC" Scars can fade..tatoos don't.
Thats how I think..at least. To each their own....do post a pic of your tatoo whatever you do decide!

I must say...this is a close to a ribbon tatoo as I would get..it's beautiful..take a looksie
-
Ok...I'm enjoying this now..lol. Here's another!!
-
Ok..I'm having fun now...lol.
This is neat. a "pink ribbon" but NOT the BC ribbon...could have the same meaning..

I guess that I am actualy thinking that the pink collar ribbon or the babies tugging on a pink ribbon would be a subtle symbol not necessarily in the BC ribbon shape just a pink ribbon. But I still am not sure that I can describe it or get it small enough for the area of my body that I allotted for another tattoo.
-
Rachael..where do you plan on geting this tatoo?
-
I am thinking on the back of my right shoulder - nothing too elaborate or big. I am staying away from the usual BC pink ribbon look, but am thinking about a small light colored pink ribbon either being carried away by a butterfly, or lightly swirled around a rose or a cross. I want something subtle and not something that is a typical BC reminder either. I definitely agree with some of the posts and I appreciate your honesty! I simply want it to show my journey coming through on the other side of it - healthy and even more beautiful than before!
-
Rachael GOOD!!!
I would suggest visiting a tatoo artist and expressing your ideas. Most, likely all, will sit down with you and draw up designs.
I have been looking into getting a cherry blossom tatoo. I have a 4 leaf clover on the back of my neck, that I'm bored of. I want to cover it up. Cherry blossoms have different meanings with the Chinese culture and Japanese culture.
The Chinese sympolize it with femine power..where as the Japanese, brevity of life. I think its a perfect sympol for getting through the whole BC experience.

This tatoo is really faded...but you get the idea..

Was it Ford Motor Co. that had the woman warrior kinda free form design? I have the scarf and LOVE the design. I do feel more like a warrior ---against the medical system, drugs, and docs as well as all the "breaking news"--something else -whatever it is--contributes to bc

Well, I did it! Check out my new tattoo (my current avatar). The rose is from a painting my Grandma did before she died in 2001 & the bible verse is one of my favorites...hope you all like! Thanks for all the wonderful ideas you shared - you ladies all rock!!!
Psalm 31:24 - Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord.

Congrats! Lovely design and special considering the source.
