Hi All -- I have the extra skin (tissue, etc) under my arms (dog ears). Has anyone had this removed . Would you be so kind to tell me what it in-voled and did your surgeon remove them or did you go to a plastic surgeon . Thanks Janet

Hi - yes I had "dog ears" and the plastic surgeon revised them - it was a very easy procedure.  He numbed up the area and made a cleaner cut as well as used very fine stitches so that the healing was more "laid down" than originally.  I was wide awake and it was no worse than having a tooth filled.. Good luck oh and by the way the breasts look much better after the "dog ears" went bye bye!!!

this is good to know that they can be removed. I have them too. PS used lipo on them during the exchange from TE to implants, but they are not completely gone. He mentioned maybe having to just excise them off, but was concerned about another scar. Who's gonna see them? Probably not too many, afterall I am 51.

Hi All -  What do you mean by dog ears?  I had left breast removed and am stuck with a ridge underneath the incision and 2 fat globules under the left arm.  In fact the incision goes thru the fatty tissue and just kind of hangs there.  The nurse, bra fitter and physical therapist all said that I look normal or better as compared to other patients that had this done.

    janie-r,

Hi again. You do not need to have ridges or globs of fat after a mastectomy. You could probably have this revised by a plastic surgeon if it bothers you a lot. I have a flat symmetrical chest, with straight incisions and no extra skin or fat.

ITA with Erica.  My chest looks great.  I don't understand how these surgeons get away with leaving women with less than nice looking chests.  It's as though they think if you're not having reconstruction, then you don't care how you look.
