I have just finished 10 of twelve Taxol and am having quite a bit of pain and numbness in my feet and fingers.  It seems mainly in the bottoms of my feet.  It is not constant but most of the time.  Two Tylenol seem to take the edge off.  Any other suggestions?  Thanks for any help.  Kathy

    i took 2 rounded teaspoons of Glutamine 2 X a day.

when i didn't take it, i noticed quite a bit more neuropathy.. i am pianist and am particularly concerned about hand function.

i had a pain script - tylenol and codeine (hydrocodone) it's very low dose and helped extremely. ... still stronger in a way than tylenol.. not sure how to explain it, but it seemed to work differently, masking all types of unpleasant sensations.  i also used my hands constantly.. 'saving' them seemed to make it hurt more.

moisterizer worked well too.  during periods of greater neuropathy it felt like my hands and feet were hot and swollen..my skin would peel.   massage and aquaphor seemed to help.. (socks over aquaphor at nite)

i noticed the neuropapathy mostly on days 1 to 4  - lots and lots of water and liquidsalso seemed to help... my hands would feel all tingly when i needed a drink.

    good luck

apple, thanks so much.  Would I get the Glutamine at a health food store?  I am going to try it.  I have noticed the peeling skin on my feet too and I am going to lotion up tonight.  I will increase my liquids too.  Thank you so much for all your help.  I don't know what I would do without this site to go too.  I am having some pain and tenderness under my arm on the side that the lymph nodes were removed.  I don't know if it is just that the feeling is finally coming back or something to be concerned about?  God Bless, Kathy

Lisa810 ~ No, my onc says there won't be any scans unless bloodwork looks wonky and/or I have symptoms.  It makes me feel wierd to not have scans, but he says bloodwork is just as reliable as scans.  Sounds odd and not very reasurring to me, but oh well.  Hey, the nail on my left big toe is just now lifting, too!  Wierd!

xpectmiracles ~ It seems that your body doesn't want you to work so much just now.  Can you do as Michele suggests and work shorter shifts?

Kerry ~ maybe it is a male vs female thing.  I told my husband that even though I'm happy to be dancing with NED, I think I'll always be waiting for the big C to jump out and grab me again.  He said he wouldn't feel that way, that if they said he was clear he'd take their word and not worry about it anymore.  I'm glad you like my sig, lol.

Denali ~ The CO meetup and the quilting class sound wonderful.  Have a great time at both events!

    Hugs to all,
    Artemis

    Mrs. Rockytop

i ordered mine thru ebay.. 2 big jars  - it's expensive locally,  the only place i found it was at health food stores of General Nutrition Centers.. about 30 dollars for a small jar.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/L-GLUTAMINE-1000g-2-2lbs-powder-FREE-SHIP-bodybuilding_W0QQitemZ120444993728QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item1c0b14c0c0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

it might be too large of an amount tho.

Behind a couple of pages again!!  Webby - so nice to hear from you.

Denali - wished I lived in CO, I would meet up with you.  I am going to the TaTa get together in Vegas at the end of September.  I saw the thread in the Breast Reconstruction forum but they said that it was ok for me to go even though I only had a lumpectomy Laughing   If any of you are interested, check out the thread - it should be a blast and it is always cheap to fly into Vegas.

I tried to go to church today, lasted most of the meeting but had to leave.  My eyes hurt so bad in fluorescent lighting that I get a major headache.  Just one of those nasty SE's of chemo that we have to deal with.  I swear you put poison in your body to get rid of cancer and yet.....it messes up all other areas of your body at the same time.

I totally agree with Chemo Brain being a lifetime problem!  Ok.....so my short term memory has improved but I use it for anything that I might forget and nobody gets mad at me.

Artemis - I am with you on the scans!  I want a total body scan every 6 months to make sure that the cancer hasn't returned but they won't do that.  Blood work is great for checking out the liver though along with the kidney's, etc.  I never got a full body scan, just a bone scan and a breast mri but I did ask about my liver and they said it was functioning without any problem and they would be able to tell if something was wrong by the blood work.

I don't know why but my hubby asked me to not dye my hair until he got back.  Huh????  He doesn't have to worry, I am going to let it get longer before I put a semi-permanent dye in it.  He has been trying to talk me into just letting it go - even though it is gray.

I did get some colored mousse from Sally's - Roux FanciFull and it works!!!  I got the Hidden Honey color.  You can sweat in it, sleep with it in your hair and no worries!!  I was concerned that I might end up with colored sweat on the back of my neck.

I will check back in later!

Webbie~ I think H is treating me okay but I have some muscle pain that I am going to try and have the infusion nurse slow my drip down next time to see if it helps.  I am also on clodronate (bone prevention) as part of a trial which could be part of the issue.

Well we came home early from the beach this weekend because it was raining today.  I am trying to get laundry and a bunch of other things done before my surgery on Wednesday.  I am glad it's a lap. surgery but I wish it was tomorrow so I could get it over with.  I am impatient when it comes to my health.

As far as scans I will not get any unless I have symptoms and I am only getting blood work because of the trial that I am on.  When I first found this out I was pissed but I am now making peace with it.  Okay well I am making piece with it today.

My DH told me the other day that I need to go back to the pyschiatrist because I was looking at my pathology report.  I wanted to find out what type of cancer I had (besides IDC) and I noticed that it said T2 which = a tumor that is 2-5cm but in the report it is only 1.3cm so I was trying to figure out why it said T2 at the beginning.  I also found out that I had DCIS that was .6cm which no one had ever thought to tell me about.  I guess it all doesn't matter now but still I like to know everything.  I don't think I need to see the psychiatrist again but maybe I am just in denial.

jancie ~ thanks for mentioning Fanciful mousse!  I used that years ago, but had forgotten about it!  Oooo, maybe I can get to the Sally store tomorrow.  I want to get my gray covered so that I can see just how much hair I actually have!

    Hi Furies,

Michele  Thank you again for the info on the meningioma.  My appointment with the neurosurgeon is tomorrow at 10 am.  I have written down your suggestions for questions and my best friend is going with me--I'm a bit nervous and don't want to miss anything, so she'll be a real help.  Tomorrow is also my LAST chemo, and just in time.  My neuropathy really kicked up this week and has spread into my hands, so I'm counting down the hours until my port is accessed (7 months ago I would not have believed that comment).

Judy, The cookie dough was great...I took what I managed to bake into cookies to work and they disappeared  instantly!

Oh--this is part I  of this post.  Will finish in a bit.

You know, I would like to see update photos of everyone!! Jancie - glad the mousse works! What a great idea. Hope you have fun in Vegas, I haven't been for years.

Jaimie - don't worry if your husband thinks you are nuts, we still love you!  Maybe you just have some 'distance' now, and feel safer going back and rereading your pathology report. I am too scared to look at mine again, in case I find out something scary I forgot was in there. I know I had 15-20% DCIS in mine, they included it in the whole measurement. Try not to worry to much about it now, it wouldn't have changed your treatment any, you are still really early stage. Sorry about the rain, it has been nice here all weekend for a change. What time is your surgery on Wed, how long will you be in for??

Gram - Cookies sound yummy!  Will be thinking of you today - big day, eh. Last chemo (yah!), and Brain Surgeon. You really go out with a bang!

Artemis - I don't get scanned either, it is standard not to. Part of me would like to, but another part thinks, if I am feeling well, and not having symptoms, and knowing early won't change anything, why would I need to know. The whole "denial" thing!  I need to ask my Onc how to differentiate between "aches and pains", and "pain".

Kathy - Taxatore used to give me pain under the skin all in my surgery area. I don't know if that is what you are experiencing. I also occasionally get funny feelings under there which i think are nerves growing back. i would give yourself a few weeks to get the Chemo out of your system before getting worried.

OK, hope everyone has a great day. We have a Public Holiday here. And it looks as though it is going to be a sunny day! Enjoy!

Kerry~ I think you are right that I am starting to feel a little better each day and it is a place and time that I do not want to go back to :)  My surgery is Wednesday at 12:30 and I know my DH will tell me that my laptop has to stay at home so no one will steal it.  I am going to be bored out of my mind if I am not sleeping.  TV has less and less of an appeal these days.  I am supposed to be in for 2 days but my Dr. said I might be able to get out in one.  I just hope I do not get a roomate who snores.

Webbie~ You can't talk about your hair do without pictures.  We want to see it :)

Gramof3~ I think it's wonderful that your friend is going with you today.

Jancie~ My DH asked me not to dye my hair either to let it be.  I dyed it well I tried but it didn't work...lol....twice..loll  I am impatient.  BTW, this is from the same man who was giving my noogies last night.

Okay off to take my daughter to vacation bible school...I thought I was going to be taking 2 of them and I was going to get 3 hours to myself but my son is running a fever and has a tuffy nose according to him.

Hi everyone!  Been sooo busy mosaicing all weekend, here is a pic of the tabletop so far....the clock face is totally glued down, but I haven't decided how to do the edging yet.  I was surprised at how many hours I put into this, you would think that placing random pieces would be easy, but it is really hard, lol.

I gotta run right now, but will go back and read what I've missed when I get back.

Okay + note from me today I did it!!!   I went without any head covering to drop my daughter off at vacation bible school.  I got to see a ton of people that I know from school that haven't seen me without a hat, or hair piece and I felt fine.  The only odd look I got was from my daughters sweet best friend and she looked up at me with a very puzzled look on her face.  She never said a word but I think she was trying to figure out who I was :).  I meet my goal, I told myself that I would be hatless by next Monday so 11 weeks PFC and I went topless.

KerryMac, thanks for the info.  My cousin who's husband had cancer said the same thing.  It is sometimes hard not to think the cancer has hit more lymph nodes, not it is probably just the chemo hitting those nodes.  I pray you continue to do well.  Kathy

Awww Apple...how did you know about the cookies??  Wink  Actually, my friend arrived as I was posting, so needed to stop.  Last night, she helped me bake Judy's Toffee Oatmeal Cookies and a marbled milk chocolate cake to take in for my last TX today.  We had a wonderful visit and she left today after the nuerosurgeon appointment.  She is an angel!

I'm trying to catch up on the posts--got way behind.

Kerry  Men exposing themselves on the metro!  I saw a newsclip where a female metro passenger somewhere in the US took a picture of a weinie wagger with her cell phone, and the guy ended up getting arrested.  His defense attorney was interviewed and had a hard time keeping a straight face.  Hope your recovery is going well.

Michele  I saw the neurosurgeon today...had the questions with me.  He covered most of them before the  Q&A, but was good answering the info not covered.  Size:  about 1/2" by 1/3"--so small couldn't get a "good description."  Wants to repeat MRI in 1- 1 1/2 mos. to compare and look for changes.   Is 90% sure it is B9, HOWEVER, if it is mets, it will be easy to remove via cyber knife.  Said it's close to surface; closest thing it could affect is visual  cortex, so be aware of blurred vision (which is hard right now with the chemo, but oh well).  He wants to see me the same day as the next MRI so that we can go over the results.  Again,Thanks so much for the info.

Judy, I love the table!  I think a while back you were going to talk about selling some of your work through a crafter?? I could have imagined it, though. Hope DD is doing o.k.

Jaimie Yea on going topless!  I figure that most adults (most kids, too) know we've had cancer, and shoudn't be surprised about the hair.  If strangers don't want to see bald heads, they don't have to look....kids may be confused, but I think for the most part, accept it.  Good for you!  I like to get my head wet, then sit close to a fan--sooooo cool.  Thinkin' about your surgery Wed. and hoping for the best!

Lisa, Denali  Interested in your comments re sleep meds.  I've been taking Ambien generic for a couple of weeks--don't seem to be able to go to sleep without it.  Will discuss with onc next week, but I can't say I'm too concerned about it--funny how our priorities chang with this bc experience!  "On drugs" has taken on a new meaning for me!

Jancie Thanks for the mousse info--I'm going to try it.  What I have coming in is so gray/white that it still looks like no hair.  It's either the mousse or I'm going to paint "hair" on my bald head. Still NO eyebrows/lashes...I really miss them :[

Bethie, Keep movin' on through this stuff, Furie!  BTW, Merrill Osmund has opened a hearing aid store here in Springfield...maybe, if this thunderous ringing doesn't stop after the chemo, I'll go visit...

Artemis  Yea for NED!  I'm looking forward to meeting him.   My onc is the same about scans, tests.  Says blood tests are just as effective, etc.  HOWEVER, I'm tired of "listen to your body, Helen."  Helen's body didn't let her know she had IDC and she would have been walking around fat, dumb, and happy if not for the routine mammo.  I want pictures!

Cheryl,  Hope the trip to MI is fun and you get to meet up with Judy.

Kathy,  My youngest sister lives in Atenas--she's in the States on furlough at the moment but will be returning to CR next week.

Webbie  A style!  Pics please--I need a role model!

Furies  I finished #12/12 Taxol today and my brain has truly been "taxed."  Anyone else having problems typing?  I"ve spent more time correcting this than writing it, and numbers are impossible right now.  Great for budget reports.

Hugs to all Furies--L4T, Spar, Grace and anyone I missed.  thanks to all of you for being so supportive.  Roids really kicking in--I'm off to clean in my garage eeeech.  Take care, Helen

    Hi Apple,

I've been thinking--we could open some type of BC survivor online retail business--don't know what kind,  Since you're from KS and I'm from MO, we could call it "The _( To Be Figured Out) Store, Shop, etc.: "What MO KAN We Do For You?"

As to the MRI report from the neuro, I'm very satisfied with it.  I'm glad he's not ready to jump right in and remove stuff before finding out exactly what it is.  He  seems pretty cautious.

Furies--I'm on face book as Helen Barnett.  Now I don't know what to do with it next!

O.K.am going to try to go to sleep again...darn steriods.

Helen - tried to "friend" you on facebook, but there are about 10 Helen Barnetts! Am guessing you are the one with the headscarf and 3 kids, but wanted to check first....! Glad all went well yesterday, Brain Dr sounds as though he knows his stuff. Yah!!!! for being all done chemo.

Jaimie - well done for going topless. Really, the first time is the hardest. AND you got hit on, so you must look hot! I don't really even think about it now, only when I catch sight of myself!! Hope you get relaxed today, I know you will be stressed and nervous.

Hope everyone is doing well. I am having major anxiety over two appointments I have next week - Breast Surgeon and Onc.  Just worried they are going to find something. Guess that is our life now. Anyhow, have a great day. We are off to a Childrens Theatre, a production of Little Red Riding hood. Should be fun!

    won't you be my friend?

Facebook is particularly great for catching family photos.. and saving them.. I don't have a big presence there.. I originally got on to spy on my two boys.. so far they have only said a few bad words.  My cousins, nieces, nephews, old friends are on.  It is nice to touch base occasionally.

Hi guys!  Finally have a minute to check in here.  Had a stressful day yesterday.....we're dog-sitting my DD's large, insane, needs-doggie-valium dog.....he jumped the fence, I jumped the fence.....he's really fast it turns out... All I could think was how upset she'd be if I lost her dog....(last time I dog-sat for my sister's shitzu, he got out and was hit by a car....that kept running through my mind).  We did catch him, thank god.  But now have to keep him on a leash, it's a shame, he was so enjoying the freedom of my backyard.

Apple:  that story was awesome, I like your writing style....I took a course in Expository writing a few years ago, we focused on Personal narrative....my teacher would have loved your writing and your story!  I hope you have more stories to share....

Cheryl:  I didn't forget about you, it's just been a crazy week for me.  You're probably here in MI now, so I will send you a PM.  I was thinking about you yesterday, I was out in West Bloomfield with my DD for her doctor appt....I think you said your in-laws are in Bloomfield, right?

Helen:  glad you liked the cookies, and that some of them actually made it into your oven, lol!!!  The news from your doc sounds good, I'm very happy to hear that he/she thinks it is B9, that's awesome!  CONGRATS on finishing your chemo, YAY!!!!

Webbie:  I was just thinking this morning about scans/bloodwork after tx....I knew my doc isn't going to do scans, but just realized that my first follow up appt is tomorrow and there are no blood tests scheduled (they always do bloodwork prior to appts).  I will have to ask about that.

Jaimie:  wow, you guys going topless....are awesome....I haven't done it yet, just around the house.  My family keeps telling me I could do it now, I have lots of hair, but I just want a bit more length first.  That's funny that you mention that you were 'hit on'....I went to the bar Sat. night, DH's band was playing in a Battle of the 3 Piece Bands show....anyway, a group of youngens came in, it was a Bachelor party, they barely looked 21....I was getting 'hit on' by one of them, and was thinking in my head that if I took off my wig, that would scare him off!!!

Kerry:  It does seem like the hair grows in, and then just stops or slows down on growing any sort of length, doesn't it?

Well, I'm off to do laundry, clean, all that fun stuff.

    Judy
