FYI SOMETHING I THOUGHT WAS INTERESTING
This was in a Bottom Line Health Magazine I get from where I use to work , and I just wanted to share it with you.
A question was asked "We're taking a beach vacation. Is it safe to swim in the water"?
Yes it is safe for the vast majority of people. However, it's wise to take precautions. In a new study, 1,303 healthy adults swam at a South Flordia beach for 15 minutes. When the water samples were analyzed, 37% of them contained Staphylococcus aureus (staph) bacteria, which can cause a serious infection. People at highest risk for staph and other bacteria infections include older adults, young children and thosee with weakened immune systems. Theory: Some swimmers may deposit sstaph bacteria - which is present on the skin of many healthy people - in the water. To protect yourself and others, shower with soap before and after swimming in subtropical waters, includindg at beaches in South Flordia, Southern CA and the Caribbean.

I personally don't go into the ocean, but love it, but when Jaws came out long ago DAH DAH DAH, I stopped...LOL But just thought this was interesting.
Thanks for letting me share, as Im not too close to the Pacific, but today was 108 degrees here, and the best thing to do after dr appts was to go home and sit under the cooler with a popsicle.
Have a safe and "cool" summer

I'm in NC and it seems every year someone gets sick (really sick) from swimming in lakes. This year, a boy lost half of his face to a rare bacterial infection! As for the ocean, we live at the beach but I don't go into the water much. All of the homes on the beaches are septic and I'm just not convinced that "something" could leach it's way out to the water!

I canceled a weekend to Ozarks because officials there lied about ecoli virus because they didn't want to hurt tourism!!!

Thanks for posting this info Ter - as you know, I'm VERY worried about getting another MRSA staph infection! Fortunately I don't swim in the tropical ocean beaches.........but information like this is so important for all of us! It's so important to shower before and after swimming ANYWHERE!
