How can I wear a silk wrap dress?
Hi everyone:
I bought one of these beautiful silk wrap dress/skirts and it fits me like a glove. I LOVE IT! Many of the designs hide my huge port that sticks out of my chest.
Here's a link to a dress that's similar to what I bought:
Problem is, most of the designs are best worn without a bra. Now I'm not particular about whether I go without my breast prothesis (how do you make that plural??). However, many of the designs rely on using the breasts as the "support" for the dress.
I'm not one to give up easily.
If I could find one of those strapless tight fitting tube tops that I could slip my prosthesis into, maybe I could get this to work. Can one go strapless with two prosthesis? Is there something out there I could purchase?
Am I crazy or should I just give it up?
Thanks.
Cheryl.

Cheryl,
Would this work? -- http://www.womanspersonalhealth.com/products/789/Strapless-Mastectomy-Bra.htm

I have an American Breast Care bra I like.
I see they advise going up a band size and down a cup size with their strapless bra. I've tried regular strapless bras on and never been happy with the fit. I may try that. They have those rubber gripper bands which feel tight anyway.
I'd also think about that two sided tape. I saw a Beyonce video where she was dancing around with a top slit down to her navel, without any movement of the fabric. I think they had it taped to her chest so she wouldn't be flashing any nipples.

I wonder if those stick on backless bras would work with fiber fill to pad them. I've seen these stick-on bras at Target. Walmart might have them, too.

I also think this product has some potential:
http://www.bustfreeusa.com/faqs.php
On amazon, the word mastectomy is used.
BustFree Strapless Mastectomy Bra in Black and Medium Size .. Fits Cup Sizes Full A and Regular B
BustFree Strapless Mastectomy Bra in Nude and XX Large Size... Fits Cup Size Full D
I just ordered one for myself. I've been reconstructed, but I have bras that show in some of my lower cut garments (one boobie is a little higher than the other.)
The website says that the bra cups will not collapse.

Here are adhesive tapes from tlc...they claim to hold prosthesis in place...no mastectomy bra required!

nice dress..
i found some soft foam inserts at my sewing store.. very inexpensive if you are experimenting..

I know it sounds crazy but here is what I do. I found a tubetop bra at Giant Tiger and I use 2 sided tape that I got at Fabricland used for nosew hemming. It works great and I don't worry about things slipping around.

TammyLou, Do be sure to let us know how these work out for you!

I will.

I wear wrap dresses often because they are so comfortable but I either wear a t-shirt inside or a camisole. I found a non-mast camisole that has a pretty high neck. It is tight enough to hold my form. It is called the Perfect-Fit Full coverage camisole and it is sold on www.solutions.com. Funny but I initially found it in one of those catalogs on the airplane.

Okay...so, I tried the thing
I think that with some tape (I would use Braza tape just in case), they would stay.
They seemed to ride in my shirt just fine. However, it felt weird. I didn't like the way the polyfoam whatever felt against my skin...it would be something to get used to.

I had a unilateral mast and I wore a halter top dress to a wedding last week. I managed to find my old strapless bra. It had the optional straps so I could make it into a halter bra. I just stuck my prothesis in it and it worked. Not somehting I could do any vigorous actvity in but it didn't lose my prothesis during dinner or anything.
TammyLou - thanks for the other links.
