medicaid as primary employers insurance as secondary
Has anyone been out of work on long term disabilty through met life, and then had to apply for social security disabilty? Then after being out two years i would be forced to go on medicaid as my primary and my employer health care plan as the secondary . I am not sure i want to go there as my employer plan is really good.Maybe i should just bite the bullet and go back to work and not mess with my health insurance,I just dont know what medicaid is like.

The experience in the Hospital, I work is to be on Medicaid is better than medicare and many medical insurances, they pay 100% if I am not mistaken on Medicaid one can not work and basically be indigent, to be on Medicare or disability is different, get advise from a Social worker.

I agree, get advice from someone who works in the field.
I had no insurance when I found out I have bc (I've been looking for professional employment for 3? years). Through our local YW I found out there is a "fast-track" medicaid program for women with breast and ovarian cancer. The woman at the YW initiated Medicaid contact for me and I was approved in less than a month. Everyone I've spoken with in the program has been gracious and helpful.
I work half time but my wages are pathetic, I'm sure it wouldn't take much more earnings to bump me up and out of qualifiying for Medicaid. I was looking for professional work until I got bc; now I don't know when I'll be able to look again, but certainly not right now.
I am only eligible for Medicaid as long as I am being treated for bc, since I'm under 62. The insurance/financial part of all this is just one more stress and worry. I've never had need for any public assistance until now and I'm very grateful for the Medicaid program.
It does cover 100%, at least so far. I haven't had surgery yet. I don't know if it will cover reconstruction but I'm not sure I'm going to go that route anyway.
Best of luck.

In my state medicaid pays for everything--nothing left for another insurance to pay, but not all doctors accept medicaid patients. Most carry a certain number, but if you're already with the physicians you like and will need, that may not be a problem.

HOLY COW! i posted this answer twice and have no idea where it went!
I think you mean MEDICARE, not medicaid. If on SSDI for 2 yrs you get medicare part A only. You have to buy Part B ($96/mo or so) and it comes right out of your social security check. If your employer has you listed as an active employee, that insurance is prime and medicare is secondary.

PS Although I said Medicaid pays for everything, they don't cover 100% of scripts. So far I've only had to pay $3 for most. I think one of them might have been $11 but I'm not sure. Anyway, minimal on most.

If you apply for SSD and are approved, you will go on MediCARE after 2 years. If you are denied, then Medicaid is an option.
