Its finally hot here so I have switched my workout to laps in the backyard pool.Nothing worse than getting bored with working out.
-
Mum - how true!
Just saw this and wanted to share:
Good friends are like stars. You don't always see them but you always know they are there!
-
I think we have all made a lot of good new friends.Probably the one good thing that came out of our " cancer experience"
-
Ivorymom-I soooo remember how it felt to be walking in darkness and how wonderful it was to finally be in the light again. It is the best feeling in the world to be reborn. Welcome back to life!
Only count the sunny days! and keep walking!
(Now if we could just get a little sun around here, I would be set. LOL) -
Isn't it said that good things come out of the bad? Bad dx and good friends. I could not have made it with out the threads on this site. Thank you all for everything. One day I will just have to travel and meet some of ya, In the 90's here again this weekend. Cloudy today but also in the 80's. Humidity sucks!
Son and fishing party got 7 billfish on Sunday. 4 white marlin and 3 sailfish. He will be here in 8 days.
Have a great day. Joy

You girls make me smile!
Just back from the dentist. My temporary crown came out last night. But I got to see my younger DD!!!!! Her and her roommate are headed to Lake Tahoe for 2 nights and the freeway goes right through here so they met me at the dentist office. WHAT A NICE SURPRISE!!!!!
-
Yes -- thank you, Mum, for starting such a great thread! I not only value and look forward to the friendship, sharing, and support here, but I've lost about 5 lbs. (exactly where I needed it the most!), and I have a such an enthused, positive outlook about daily exercise now. I also feel less worried about a possible recurrence because I know I am being seriously proactive about prevention. Deanna
-
OK so still on vacation and yesterday did a 45 min walk with DH then went outlet shopping and added another couple of miles. So not a bad day for exercise, considering I'm on vacation.
Getting ready to go out and walk now!
Thank you my friends!!!! As Kari says, "you make me smile"!! Smiling and friends is what it's all about....
Spring.

Wow five lbs Congrats. I can't seem to loose. All this exercise is making me feel better and move easier. I wonder if my taking tamox is hindering my weight loss. I need to loose or would like to loose 10 lbs before my Sept surgery.
-
Could the weight gain be water retention? I guess I'm the weird one here. I lost weight with my txs. I need to gain some of it back but I don't want it in the stomach and butt! I've only gained 4 back since radiation ended.(March) I'm 6'1" and weigh in at 165. But I exercise to firm up everything. I've always been active and these aches and pains are killing me. I go in August for bloodwork and mamo and then to the onc and surgeon. So August is going to be the tell all. I was dxs last August and that is my one year anniversary too. Keep up the good work everyone. Joy
-
Still blastedly hot here, but we had a nice cloud cover this a.m., so I managed to get in 4.62 miles, although by the end I could feel the fluid building on my mast side. I had an early app't. yesterday for another healing touch massage, so didn't walk at all yesterday, which is why I felt I needed to push myself today.
Mum, I also wondered if you're retaining water, maybe due to the tamox? In spite of all my walking, my scale didn't budge (even though my pants felt looser) until I got an OTC herbal water pill, then a mild diuretic from my PCP.
Sorry you're dealing with the aches & pains, Joy, but great that you're managing to get in exercise in spite of them. Hopefully, they'll ease up for you with the exercise.
Lisa ~ I was interested to see a nice article on Zumba ("Zumba Zeal") in our local magazine, Palm Springs Life, July 2009 issue. It mentions that "... Zumba stands poised to become one of the fastest-growing international exercise movements of the decade," which I guess we've pretty much gathered from knowing you. But it sounds like we'll be hearing a lot more about it in the future, especially if Oprah does a segment on it. Deanna
-
Spring - You made me smile!! Glad to hear you are getting in some walks up there! Good job!
I pooped out and did not exercise yesterday...uh oh! LOL! I will hit the mall at lunch and get movin'. DH comes homes today and we were invited to DD's house for dinner. Homemade pizza from a cool website 101cookbooks.com featuring natural ingredients. Check it out, it looks intriguing!
Deanna, you always amaze me woman with your walking in that desert heat! Be careful with the fluid retention though!! Neat info on the Zumba. I wish our classes were cheaper here!! Guess I'll have to look into some DVDs.
Mum, its good to hear you are moving easier and feeling better though!! Let's think its new muscle accounting for the weight gain!!
Joy, looking forward to hearing good reports from your dr. visits next month!
We may have all come from different ships, but we're on the same boat now

Where do I sign up for the motivation? I sure need some. I have gained so much weight since dx. Probably depression and going through the painful process of reconstruction has put me off on the exercise. I'm looking forward to getting these expanders out and getting back to the gym. Take care all!
Dee~ -
Welcome Dee!! We need you to get out of that funk girl! I still have reconstruction to look forward to also. Have to wait a couple of more months though before seeing a PS. I have to say I'm kinda nervous about it! Are you supposed to not exercise with the expanders? Can you take a walk, that will lift your spirits!
Meg, I thought of you on my walk during lunch, about how you carry that weighted pack. Does it make your posture bad while you walk?? I envision our military guys with those heavy ruck sacks on their back all bent over trying to walk. How nice to have your walk by a lake! NICE!! But then MN is the land of 10,000 lakes right?
-
Walked a few miles today, about 4, but only half of it at an aerobic pace. Given we're on vacation and it's raining buckets, I take this as a success!!!
Love to all you lovelies!!!!
Spring.
-
Hi Spring! That is success!
Meg, I see...cause I've only been walking about 30 min also at a brisk pace but was wondering about changing it up a bit so that's a great way to do it!
-
Hi Kari and thanks for the welcome:)
You can do whatever you feel up to with the tissue expanders after about 4-6 weeks. For me it is just too painful to do an awful lot of moving around, but I do take some walks. I don't want to scare you about reconstruction as most women don't have alot of pain, everyone is so different. I am looking forward to getting past this part of the journey though I have to admit. Then I will buckle down and get back into shape, I know I will feel so much better then. Dee~

Waiting for the guy to come and fix my floor in the bedroom. Had a leak in the bathroom and it destoryed the floor. Been leaking for sometime and no one knew. Had to get up early so I could get things done before he gets here. I had to walk the dog. So needless to say I didn't sleep well last night thinking of getting up early today.
Kari - I went on Amazon and got the DVD's for Zumba. Lisa said to get the four pack. I try to do the first two and watch the other two at this time. I still have two left feet! The one is abs, buns, and thighs and I can do that one. It is the actual Zumba that I have trouble doing. I had trouble with step aerobics at first too so I will go slow and learn. Water you can just do whatever and no one can really see if you mess up. I taught both when I lived in VA. (before bc) I also walked 8 miles a day for work and then walked the dog everyday. So much changes n a short time! Love the MLK quote.
Men are here so I have to go. Hugs to all. Joy
-
Ladies here is this mornings exercise motivation. If we workout today we can enjoy this this weekend. Just kidding we stay away from sugar right?
-
Mum - Yum...and well kinda!
Dee, oh dear, that does scare me about the pain thing! YUK!!!!!!!!!! poor thing. What is the length of time you are dealing with? I know they do fills every week right? Hang in there! We are pulling for ya girl!
Joy, thanks I will have to check those zumba dvds out!! A couple of girls in our Sacramento office were taking classes together and the older gal kept hurting herself! YIKES! Good luck with the floor. Same thing happened to us in our last house, girls bathroom shower (go figure!)...
Dinner last night at DDs was so good. We each tossed our own pizza dough and put on our own ingredients. She posted them on Facebook. Hey if any of you are on FB let me know, we can be friends! Looking forward to my walk this evening. Low back and hip have been acting up again so I will be careful...dummy me was trying out some new moves last night and I hurt my low back....D'oh!
Make it a GREAT Friday night chickies!
It is never too late to be what we might have been

The NordicTrack is a lot harder than I thought it would be, but I'm sticking with it! My DD calls nearly every day to check up on me. LOL "How far did you go, Mom? How many calories did you burn, Mom? How many minutes?" Crazy girl, but it helps keep me on the straight & narrow!!
Kari ~ I'm Valerie Jean on FB. Let's be friends! Ha-ha!
Good night ladies,
((hugs))
-
I am off to the gym this morning and then a dip in my pool.Who wants to join me?
-
Val - I tried to see you on FB but there are several Valerie Jeans!! Which one are you?
Mum - I'm so there!!
Walks and pilates and now off to lunch!
-
Too behind in the posts to give a holler out to everyone.
Kari and Dee, wont' sugarcoat it the process of reconstruction is a pain in the neck (or chest) and a lot longer then I appreciated going into. I found it was so worth it however, I am so glad every day that I did it. I did find taking muscle relaxers before and 24 hrs after the expansion made a HUGE difference for me, if you're having any trouble wiht them Dee.
-
Kari and Valjean, friend me on FB!! I will PM you both my real name!!!
Went for a sail with an old friend and her family today. Driving home tomorrow. Long day in the car!!! Then back to my diet and exercise program!!! (and work, pooh!)
Spring.
-
ARRGHHH ! Reconstruction doesn't sound fun!
Spring, sent you a friend request! Sailing!!!!!!!! how fun! fun in the sun!! Good luck on the drive home, that isn't fun.
-
Kari,
The font might be messed up, keep trying this & it's not working right. Will just do it anyway. I can't type fast as this is leaving out letters, strange. :{
Anyway, I'm the first Valerie Jean, the one holding the 2 grandbabies. I didn't realize there so many. LOL I "friended" (ha-ha, is that even a word??) you, it looked like you! On your vaca, with the beautiful palm trees & water behind you. Lovely.
Off to bed. Wonder how this is going to look after I hit submit, have never had this problem posting here before. Keep having to go back & retype words.
((HUGS))
Val
EDIT: Looks okay, & this edit is going the way it should. Strange, very strange!

Val - thanks for friending me! haha I accepted of course!! Nice to see pics of you. Hey any others on facebook, its a nice way to see one another!
my goodness, my DH and I had fun goofing around yesterday. Although I got stung by a wasp yesterday, I had just walked out to look at the veggie garden and ZAP! little bugger got me right in the left arm (WRONG ARM BUCKO)...I started crying like a baby it hurt so bad. DH immediately made me sit and put my arm up and iced it for 30 min. Huge hole where he got me. I was so afraid of LE, but luckily it didn't happen. Well we had music on last night and we danced and danced in the backyard. It was such a warm evening, we were laughing and running around and then we started doing aerobics, what a sight! it was really fun, we never stay up that late. We had taken a nap yesterday after we went out for lunch, out like lights for an hour and then we were bursting with energy. My hip was killing me though! you play, you pay as they say. hey that rhymes! ha
Val - that photo on Facebook is at the Hyatt in Maui where my DH and I were married in 2003!! We love it there!
Today, went for a 50 min walk but its very warm out already so bracing for another heatwave starting today. Bummer...
Make it a Great Sunday!
-
Spring, sailing sounds so fun
Kari: Made me feel good just listening to the night you and DH had.
Made a veggie Shepard's pie today. DS told me about it. Instead of mashed potatoes on top mashed up cauliflower (put in a little lite sour cream for texture help). It was really good, I think it will now be my favorite way of eating cauliflower.
Made all my goals last week for exercising. Felt good to be back on track after the previous week. So, off to get some in today to start the week right.
-
kmmd, I've never made Shepard's pie, is it easy to make?? I heard one of the younger guy's here in the office saying he made mashed cauliflower instead of potatoes and he just raves about it. I need to try that!
Went to a friend's house yesterday, she's also a coworker, to help her make ice cream cakes. She promised the guys in the office last week she'd make some. I will have to taste it later, just a bit!!
Another day of mall walking ahead, 105 deg. expected today.
I hope everyone had a great weekend and let's make it a GREAT Monday!!
