-
Hi Viv, I'm from Ajax not far from you
-
Kily.....hey nieghbour! Nice to meet you!
-
Nice to meet you to. Did you take part in the CIBC run for the cure in Oshawa last Sunday? Are you familiar with Hearth Place in Oshawa.
-
Hi Kily
No, I didn't entre the CIBC run for the cure, did you? I did do the Relay For Life here in town in the summer, it was a killer because of the weather! That one is an all nighter. I have heard of Hearth Place but have not been there, it's a support place right? Are you thinking of checking it out???? BTW, I am in Port Perry, 15min up Simcoe from Oshawa.
-
Hi Viv and Kily, crazydaisy: I am from whitby. I have heard about Hearth Place but have not checked it out. Maybe we should be talking to others about our worries and not just online at 4 in the morning.
-
Hi Girls, Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. To answer your question I have attended Hearth Place from the very beginning of my journey and it has been a constant for me. The friendship and support I recieved and am still recieving is unmeasurable. Please check it out. If anyone is interested I will post the Tel # and address. By the way I did attend the CIBC run and it was wonderful. I recorded a song re Breast Cancer called "Eye Of The Beholder " and it was played. All proceeds will be donated to the fight against Breast Cancer. My husband and I had a country band called "The Duffins Creek Country Band" a few years ago. We no longer sing professionally but still enjoy writing lyrics and music. It seems that most people I know want to give something back after surviving this darn illness and I guess this is my way of trying to help out no matter how small the contribution.
Blessing KILY

Hey Crazydaisy!
I haven't seen you around here lately. How are you doing. I have been watching from the sidelines
for a while but lately I have jumped into comversations. I live in Lindsay! Only a stones through from you. Actually, my best buddy lives in Port Perry and she is also going through this lovely journey. She has finished all of her treatments and is on the mend, so all is well. Hope you are well to.

Hey Gibby
I've been sidelining alot like you. I am good, how about you??? Does your friend visit this site too? I see I am same age as you...50, whoohoo(Boo?) Well maybe we should all hook up sometime in Port? By the way, are you a Dragon Boater??? I went out to watch last summer and was amazed at the turn-out! Take Care!
Viv

Hi crazydaisy;
No my friend doesn't really want to join in here. I tell her she 'for information but anyway she just doesn't want to. Ironically, I was in the Dragonboats with the hospital team from Lindsay before I was diagnosed. I don't think I want to be in a servivor boat. At least not right now. It is really an amazing day though isn't it. Maybe we should hook-up then and I'll bring my friend along. She really is alot of fun.
-
Gibby....that's a great idea. I believe it is in June? It was strange being there watching and seeing some of my surgical team there for the races. I had the opportunity to enter this year through a work team but not really ready for that yet either. Checking it out and enjoying part of the day is enough for me. Hope the lake is better this year!

hi everyone
my name is Jo, and I'm new here and from Toronto. Just got biopsy results for a lump I found myself - inconclusive but atypia suspicious for malignant, so the general surgeon/oncologist who did the biopsy recommended (with the caveat that the breast surgeon will have the final say) that we proceed as if cancer, i.e., lumpectomy with wide margins and lymph nodes. Did anyone else go to surgery not knowing for sure? I feel weird because on the one hand I'm facing so far the road that the folks who are diagnosed early stage face, but I don't actually know what it is exactly. Also, any experiences with wait times - my consultation with the breast surgeon is booked, but is in mid-August 09 (i.e., around 6 week wait). How long does it usually take between initial breast surgeon consult and surgery? Will that be another month? I hate the thought of this thing growing in me for another 2 months or more. I can feel it easily (it's in the axillary tail), and it has gotten a bit larger over the last few weeks.
-
Hi Jo......Sorry you're here but welcome!
My situation was not the same as yours as my biopsy confirmed IDC and DCIS, but the tumor size, extensiveness of the DCIS and lymph node involvement was unknown. The final pathology report after surgery provides the most accurate info, so you are in the same situation as the rest of us were in and have every right to feel what you are feeling right now.....HUGS to you!!
I am a little concerned about your wait time to see the breast surgeon. Who is he/she? What hospital are you being treated at? My time frame went as follows: Ultra sound for further investigation Jan 30/09 (morning), core biopsy Jan 30 (afternoon), bilateral MRI Feb 3, initial pathology from breast surgeon Feb 5, lumpectomy and sentinal node biopsy Feb 18, final pathology from breast surgeon Mar 5 (this wait was the most difficult!!), first meeting with Medical Oncologist Mar 17 and first chemo tx Mar 31. I'm not trying to scare you but maybe you need to seek someone who can start this ball rolling sooner.
My thoughts and prayers are with you!

Hi beach,
Thank you so much for your nice note. It means a lot. I think I will ask my GP what he makes of this wait. The breast surgeon is Dr. Reedijk at Princess Margaret. He seems to have a good rep from what I've read on the internet.
Hope you are doing well. Does the surgery hurt a lot?
Jo

Jo.....
You're definitely at one of the best hospitals to be dealing with this, which makes the waiting period even more surprising......blame it on summer holidays?? Yes, I would definitely talk with your GP about the wait......I found that to be the most difficult part in the beginning but I'm also a bit of a control freak
. I am being treated out of Mt. Sinai, right beside you, but my radiation will be done at Princess Margaret. My surgeon was Dr. Jaimie Escallon who had the most amazing bedside manner during his role in my journey. His office is in the Marvelle Koeffler Breast Centre on the 12th flr in Mt. Sinai and I highly, highly recommend him!!! My surgery went well eventhough two of my margins were close but clear. My lymph nodes were clear so no drains were put in :-)). The pain was managed by Tylenol 3, and for me, the pain wasn't in the breast as much as where the sentinel node biopsy was done. I still don't have all of the feeling back in my armpit but there is no pain, and still have bruising around the nipple of my affected breast (surgery done Feb 18th). To be fair here though, between the invasive tumor and the extensiveness of the DCIS, he was forced to remove 6.8cm x 6.3cm x 2.8cm, and I am not big breasted!!
I know how scary this all is for you but you can get through it.......we are so much stronger than we realize!! Feel free to send me a private message if you wish. Big Hugs to you ((( )))

Hi All; I'm in London, Ontario. Take Care
-
Hi, I'm from Ontario. I'm originally from Toronto (Thornhill). I now live in Stroud (part of Innisfil). I was diagnosed on July 10th (cone biopsy). I was very pleasantly surprised how quickly things have moved. I had a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy on Aug 10. Unfortunately, I now have to have mastectomy and it will be done in September although the final date has not been set. I don't know if things just move faster at the Barrie hospital or whether things progressed quickly because my cancer is grade 3.
BTW, if anyone wants to bypass the waiting list for a breast MRI, I found private clinic that does it quite quickly. Cost is $600 for a pair of boobs!

Good day ladies, Keswick, ON here (Lake Simcoe) Mantra? Barbe lives very close to you. Path. came back yesterday (finally...) op. 09/09/09 - false/positive reading of nodes. One has cancer, one is mets and one negative. More surgery and then chemo........and the ride continues. ((Hugs)) to all and hope for a better future. Although I would prefer not to be part of this site, I cannot think of a better group of woman to walk this trail with.
Take care
Debra
