I also love the Stephanie Plum series and also the Kinsey Malone series by I think it is Sue grafton.

I read anything I can get my hands on by Nicholas Sparks, he makes me laugh and cry.  He always touches by heart.

I love to read!  Over the past year, I have read sooo many books.  I noticed AlaskaDeb talked about reading "Running With Scissors."  That book was so weird--but was hilarious!  I too read several Nicholas Sparks books.

I just finished reading "The Doctor's Wife" Elizabeth Brundage.  Great Book!  Would definitely recommend it.  Now I'm reading "Whispers of the Bayou" Mindy Starns Clark.  Also a very good book.

I just finished 'Pillars of the Earth' by Ken Follett and as many before on this thread had said, it was wonderful!!  I'm not usually one for middle ages settings but this book is really something - it definitely keeps your interest through all 973 pages.  I now have a hold at my local library on the next book,  'World Without End.'

Just read The Glass Castle, a great memoir.  Hard, but not impossible, to believe these parents were very well educated and soooo sadly neglectful of their children.

I'm about to pick up Pillars of the Earth but it's mighty heavy.

I started a book group at work and we just finished the book Cellophane.  It was a mystical Latin American novel and I really enjoyed it.  Now I am on to The Wednesday Sisters, although again I cannot remember the author.  I also started the book Wicked which is the story of the Wicked Witch of the West before The Wizard of Oz came began.  It is a really great book, but don't be fooled in to thinking it is for children!!  It is definitely rated R!!  Reading is my passion.  I am going to school at night to get my degree in Library Science so that someday I might be a librarian and be surrounded by books all day!

Yes Bethany but I have yet to see a Librarian that had time to read at work.  However, I am sure you get to read some of them.

I am reading new moon by Stephenie Meyer.  It is the sequal to intrigue.  The movie Intrigue is coming to theatres in a couple of weeks.  So I had this big push to read it in time.  And I did and now I am halfway through the second book.

I have a bookcase of books I have bought and have yet to read.  And now I want to find out about Stephanie Plum and read more of the Sue Grafton books (I think I have read up to M) and I really want to read Wicked.

Yes, it's called Twilight - I  just bought the book, but haven't started it yet. Tonight I am going to go get the new Patricia Cornwell "Scarpetta." Has anyone read it yet? It just came out 12/2 and has gotten really good reviews on Amazon.

    HI everyone!

I haven't checked this topic in a while, but I wanted to recommend a great book that I am currently reading.  The title is "Dewey, The Small-Town Library Cat Who touched the World" by Vicki Myron.  It has been a long, long time since I have read such a heart-warming story, and it's one of those books that I dread finishing because I have enjoyed it so much.  I have a box of Kleenex ready for the ending.  Written by the owner/librarian, it is about a cat who is "employed" by a library in Spencer, Iowa and how he touched so many, many lives, literally all over the world.  I really believe that even if you are not a cat lover, it will impact you greatly.  I highly recommend that everyone go out and buy this book!!!!!!!

    Happy Reading!

I'm reading Duma Keys by Stephen King. I was a BIG King fan years ago..........but then he got sloppy and I was turned off. Then I fell in LOVE with Dean Koontz especially after reading the Odd Thomas series........I'm still trying to find that third Frankenstein book of his - does anyone know what it's called? ANYWAY..........I'm LOVING Duma Keys.........perfect timing too, since my in-laws are down in the Gulf Keys off Florida now and they tell me how gorgeous the sunsets are. Stephen King has REALLY come back to his old self - it took his getting hit by a truck for this to happen to him. And since my mx, I feel in tune with the main character of this story (who lost a limb in an accident).........I haven't finished it yet, but when I do, I'll report back. Oftentimes I'll love a Stephen King novel only to be really disappointed by the ending - I hope that doesn't happen this time around!

I agree that we should keep this thread going for Alaska Deb!  I've been reading Jodi Picoult's Vanishing Acts.  I think it's one of her older books that I just missed when it came out.  It's typical Jodi Picoult and I'm expecting a strange twist to the ending!

Yes, let's keep this going in Deb's honor.

I finished Savage Grace last weekend (cannot recall the author); true story, oral history - very good, but a bit disturbing and depressing.

I then went onto a lighter book, The Beach House by Jane Green - very good, easy read.

I am now reading Heat Lighting by John Sandford - it is OK so far. Looking forward to the new Prey coming out next week, I believe.

ok..so where did we leave off....so far for my summer reading  I have read "Audition" by Barbara Walters...a very revealing book.

"Here's Johnny" by Ed McMahon...I was a very big fan of Jonny Carson.

Now I am reading "Ice Bound" by  Dr.Jerri Nielson..she is the Dr who was at the South Pole and discovered she had breast cancer. She had to do her own biopsy and make her own chemo as she was the only Dr down there and it was too cold for any aircraft. She came home in 1999 and she just died last week. So she survived 10 years. It is a great book so far.

    ok..so what are you reading?

Candie - my husband was telling me about the doctor in Ice Bound, but didn't know the name of the book - thanks for the head's up.

I just finished several - if I can remember them all.

    1. Time is a River - Mary Alice Monroe -Fiction - very good - about a bc survivor finding herself in the mountains of NC.

    2. The Art of Racing in the Rain - Fiction - very good and a little emotional - narrated by a dog (sounds silly, but is quite good) - about his life with his people, Denny - sometime racecar drive, Eve - Denny's wife and their daughter Zoe. A very wise dog.

    3. The Love Season - Elin Hilderbrand - Fiction - good - the book spans one day in time, as an older woman reflects upon her past and reunites with her god daugter. Good beach read - set on Nantucket Island.

    4. Say Goodbye - Lisa Gardner - Fiction - Good, but can be disturbing - just a warning. Part of a series with FBI agent Kimberly Quinn. She and her husband's colleague is tracking down a man who is involved in missing prostitutes. Warning: child abuse of the worst kind.

Next on the list is Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah.

It made me smile to see Deb's name and picture.  Great idea to keep this going.'

I'm all over the place ..maybe chemo brain...I read fiction, trashy fiction, mystery, and now I read more non-fiction..history in particular. I'm reading Tears in the Darkness about the Bataan death march.  Amazing story.

"I am not my breast cancer "by Ruth Peltason was very interesting.  It's four years later and the title caught my attention because sometimes I feel that way.

I just read Saroyan's "The Human Comedy". A old title but very touching in a 1940s way.  Found it at the library and realized I never read it.

"Shanghai girls" by Lisa See who wrote "Snowflower and the Secret Fan"

Stephanie Plum is up to 15...and still funny...I love Grandma.

Bill Gates Sr.'s little book  "Showing up for life"... short and sweet.   Now I'm looking for my beach reads and will take some of your suggestions.  Thanks.
