Tamoxifen and hair color
I went to a new hair dresser and was told that I should not permanently color my hair while on Tamoxifen. That I should use a rinse or just stop. Well, I am 48 and don't want to look like my great grand mother. Vane, i guess, but it's the little things in life that I'm trying to keep. Did anyone else get this advise?

Probably you shouldn't take medical advice from your hairdresser. I have never heard of this and see no reason why it makes sense. Do what you want.

Cher ~ I've never heard of it either, but I'm wondering if the advice might be based on a valid observation, but an inaccurate conclusion. For those of us who have had chemo, haircolor can often take differently on our new hair growth. When I read your question, I wondered if the hairstylist had tried to color post-chemo hair, and the client and your stylist assumed the problem was the Tamox she was on??? Just a thought -- Deanna

This is interesting, as its time to color my hair again soon!!

I finished my 5 years of tamoxifen last fall and had no problems with having my hair colored during any of that time. In fact, my hair actually felt thicker and had lots more body with tamoxifen (and now also with Evista).

Hi everyone,
I am a hairstylist and this is the first time I have heard about problems coloring hair while on tamoxifen. I take Arimidex and one of my co workers tamoxifen............. we both color our hair and have not had any issues. Also, we have many clients who are either on or have been on these meds and again no problems. Hope this helps.

I've been, well my hair dresser has been, coloring my hair while on Tamoxifen--no problems, looks great!

I've been doing my own, no problems here!

That must explain it!
My hair stylist takes tamoxifen, and she has these pink streaks in her black hair.
I always wondered why she had those -- and now I know

I have been taking tamoxifen since 10/08 and have had my hair colored multiple times. No problems at all. The texture hasn't changed and it is as thick as ever.
Roseg, I look forward to see what my hair stylist has done with her hair. She changes it often, unlike me. I've found a cut that I like, a color that I like and I don't want to change, even if my stylist is bored with the same old thing.

I haven't gotten this advice, but I just needed to jump in and say to Rose, thanks for the full belly laugh!

I take tamoxifen and I first coloured by hair with my hairdresser, it was fine. A friend recommended using Herbatint...more of a natural dye and I tried it and itworked fine. Some people give advise that is not proven
Enjoy your new colour when you get it.

I am currently taking tamoxifen. My scalp is itchy and my hair is definitely thinning. Is it ok to get my hair highlighted? My gray is really showing, which doesn’t feel very good, but I don’t want all my hair to fall out either. Please help! Thank you.
