Ginger for sea sickness?

Options

Did anyone see Mythbuster this weekend where they tried to treat sea sickness with natural things and they found that ginger pills worked very well.  Has anyone ever tried this?

I don't know either.  I wonder if it has to be taken in advance or if a person could wait until symptoms occur and still receive relief.

So, flalady, why are you asking?  Are you taking a cruise to get away from it all?  Smile

I work within an oceanographic center and we have research cruises that can last for weeks each year.  Most people use scopolomin (spelling?), but some use ginger and say it works.

my daughter went on a required school schooner trip.  she had the prescribed drugs.  They didn't work. She  won the award for the most times sick in one day.  One of the teachers took pity on her and gave her candied ginger to suck on.  It worked.  I'm not into "natural" as automatically good, but I can say it worked much better.

I love candied ginger.  It works for heartburn also.  Any type of stomach distress I'll eat a couple of small pieces, but I'd eat it anyway without stomach distress.  I'm such a fan for the stuff, I found a place that sells it fresh and has a lot of zip to it.
