On antidepressants but need to cry and can't
I just had my first biopsy on 7/7 and am waiting for the results which is killing me.
In the meantime, I am coming out of my skin with anxiety and sleeplessness.
I feel like a good cry would be good for me, but the cocktail I am on prevents such an outlet. I am on lamictal, effexor xr, and abilify for bp, and now of course, there's this to worry about.
I am 44 with a mom who has metastatic ILC involving 17 of 20 lymph nodes so I am worried. The dr. found 2 suspicious areas on my right breast on my callback mammo but only biopsied one area because the other was too hard to get to she said.
Has anybody else had this experience where their drugs prevent them from crying when what they really need is just a good cry?

Hi-yes sometimes meds can blunt your feelings. Have you been on them awhile? I take prozac and found it helped me to not be crying all the time. But with time I can when I watch a sad movie ,etc..Sometimes it takes awhile to even out on the meds. That said have you tried getting in your car with doors and windows closed and just sreaming for awhile? Maybe that would help as your feeling the need to cry might not be just sadness, but frustration. Give it a try. Maybe someone has some other ideas. Some people find journaling helps, for me after I was on meds, I no longer felt the obsessive need to write things down though. Maybe physical exercise might help to use up some nervous energy. The waiting is the worst. <<HUGS>> Lynne

Lynne,
Thanks for answering. I've been on this cocktail about a year but on antidepressants for 9 years total.
Yes, they sure do blunt a lot of feelings which would actually be beneficial to feel at a time like this.

I can relate to you because I have been on prozac for years.
The only time I was able to cry when they called me with my results.
Keep posting to let us know the results.
Hugs

The title of your post reminded me of the book title 'Too Scared to Cry', about childhood PTSD, from a child therapist who examined the children in the Chowchilla, CA kidnapping way back in 1976. There were about 26 children, aged 5-14, who were trapped and buried in a van for about 11 hours.

Thanks everyone, for your input.
I got my results today. It's ADH and I am seeing the surgeon tomorrow about removing the 2 areas of my breast that are affected.
Is there anywhere on these boards where women discuss ADH?

I'm guessing you mean "atypical ductal hyperplasia"?
I don't know if there is a place on these boards specifically for this, but I know that it's probably an issue with some of us. We found out after my mastectomies that, in addition to the definite areas of carcinoma I had in both breasts, my right one (I think . . . this is the one the doctor said could be saved with just cleaning up my margins but I opted to go ahead with bilateral mastectomies) had atypical hyperplasia all over the place.
If I'm misunderstanding you, I apologize. I'm here if you need me, as are a lot of other ladies on these boards.

I know its diffifult, tovahsmom. If you have ADH and nothing worse, but you have a mom with advanced breast cancer, you may want to consider the 'High Risk Women' forum. But you are certainly free to post where you wish.
