Well I hope all of you ladies had a great 4th of July and kept up with your exercise! I did my part this weekend and am paying for it now, we did a community clean up of tree beds that the city hasn't touched in about 5 yrs. Stiff and sore from pulling out overgrown shrubs and bushes.

Anyway, Kari would like to know if I can PM you as I have some questions for you about your Hawaii vacation?

    Have a great week everyone.

Good morning, all ~  Well, the heat has finally hit here, and between it and being away 4 days last week, I only logged 6.25 miles (2 days) for the week.  But, for some strange reason, in the past few days (not walking), I've dropped 4 lbs.  I think it's mostly the diuretic my PCP RX'd -- thank goodness.  Except for this blasted heat (116 yesterday), I feel so much better, especially my hands and feet.  But it was 100 when I walked last night at 8:30 p.m., and nearing that now @ 8:30 a.m.  I just returned from doing 2.75 miles (my original circle route), and I think that's going to be my limit for awhile, and only if I can get out pretty early.  I've also wondered if walking as much as I have been is somehow stressing my body and causing inflammation and water retention?  So, we'll see how cutting back to an hour or less for awhile goes.

I hope everyone had a nice holiday weekend.  And, as Lisa first said --  Make it a great week!   Deanna

    Hi you cuties!!!

I was thinking about you all wkend but took a "computer break". Wanted to reaport that we did 20+ miles again last week, so back on track! I did make up the 2 miles I missed by not "going" in the woods! I was really really pooped yesterday, (Allie, I know what you meant!!! I was drained!!) so glad we only had to do one loop and not two.

KMMD, right, can you imagine "going" in the woods and getting mosquito bites on butt??? Than you're like scratching your bottom all day??? I mean, HOW ATTRACTIVE!!! LOL!!!!

HEY JOY!!! Cooler now in NC huh?? The rain came and relieved us. I heard about the fireworks explosion, but did not know it was on Ocracoke! I love that little place. Hope all is okay now. The ferry ride is a lot of fun actually. OK we're so TOURIST!!! I know!!!

Deann, you CRACK ME UP on the 9K steps just from shopping!! I am sure that is true! Especailly at outlet malls or big malls if you walk all over and make a real day or it! And all that "trying on" can be exhausting!!!

ValJean, Give those grandbabies some smooches from us here!!! :)

So all this walking is paying off. I saw my GP this morning and I've lost 7-8 pounds since end of Jan!!! She said I looked great and "keep it up". She also didn't freak out about my supplements with Iodine and other things, and agreed to move me to desecrated thyroid rather than synthroid. This is a topic for another board, but anyway, I was happy that she was ok with all my homeopathic diet, exercise, supplement, serenity stuff. (I do all the medical stuff too, which is probably why, not kidding myself. sheesh).

Anyway, as Deana said above:  MAKE IT A GREAT DAY!!!!

    Spring

PS, DEANNA - 4 lbs NOT WALKING. You coudl sell that stuff on the black market!!! How much do you want for your Rx???? LOL LOL LOL JK.

Hi cuties!  We made it back from Oregon.  Wow how beautiful that state is!!  So green and all the flowers and waterways....I just really enjoyed it.  You cross over back into California and its all brown again.  So sad!!

I had read about the avocados and have been eating them up!!  My SIL lives in Fallbrook, CA and they have Avocado groves, she ships them all over to family for about $20.  You get a nice size box full of them and they are GOOD!!!!!!  Let me know if any of you are interested.

Penny, of course you can PM me anytime girl!!  Hope I can help with some good info.

Didn't do too well on the eating/exercising routine while on the trip and my tummy has been letting me know that today!  So back on track today.  Took a 25 min walk earlier with DH and had to cut it short cause I, like you Spring, had to GO!!!!!!!!!  LOL...will get out there this evening again.

Deanna, will be interested to hear about the cutting down on the walking, cause I wondered how you walk so darn much in that heat!!!  Keep us posted

Spring, you made me laugh with the butt thing and the scratching! LOL LOL  and good to hear your doc was on board with all you're doing!  wonderful to hear!

Val, hope you have a wonderful time away!

    Allie, you feeling better yet?

Joy, I thought of you while up in Lake Oswego, OR...lots of kayakers on the lake, gosh it was so pretty.

Dentist visit today.  Its been a year since I've gone, since I was on chemo when I was supposed to go last time.  Wonder what he'll say.

Let's make it a great week all!!

Kari ~  Glad you had such a nice trip!  And that's interesting that your SIL lives in Fallbrook.  I happen to have antique space (I'm a dealer) in a mall in Temecula, which is adjacent to Fallbrook.  Small world!  If you get down that way, let me know!  I live 85 miles from there, but am in Temecula at least a 2x a month.  And that is the avocado belt!  They're so good for us, too.  Does your SIL have any great recipe ideas for them, besides salads and guacamole?

And, Spring ~  Woohoo on losing 7-8 lbs. (wow!) and the nice reaction from your GP to how great you look!!    So glad we dug out our running shoes and got ourselves out there when we really didn't feel like it and kept at it.  It makes it all worthwhile, doesn't it?!

Penny ~  I'll bet your tree beds and whole area look really nice now.  Sounds like a great effort with the added benefit of a great workout!

Hi all - we finally got rain today, Monday. I actually had the day off and did very little. Walked the dog and then went to the grocery store. Ugh!! Nice rain but it is still in the 80's. My son is doing okay. He had to help with the burn victims at the fire on Ocracoke. Four have died so far. Go to my GYN on Thursday. I don't have a mamo till next month. That started this roller coaster. On days for 2 then off on Thursday and then back to nights. Oh well!! Make a agreat week.

    Hi all-

Kari-thanks for asking--I am feeling better although have an annoying cough. Just went to get some cough syrup. Was draggy this morning so no exercise except for walking the dog who we picked up after Two Weeks at the boarders!!  We missed the little man--although he is rather large, and I think seemed to grow while he was there! Will go to yoga tomorrow morning if not coughing too badly. Am sad as the yoga instructor is cutting back her schedule to only one class a week. Such a bummer as we all really liked her...I think I am also going to join the local gym so I can start doing the elliptical again (Spring you are a motivation there!!).

Ivory, a 10 lb weight! You bring us all up to a new level!!!  And still getting over rads. Good for you!!!

Deanna, yes, you are right. We were dusting off our sneakers when we didn't feel like it. Sometimes you just have to "do it anyway". it does pay off. I really do believe our bodies were designed to move. I know we are burning up sugar and metabolizing estrogen when we exercise. It is SO GOOD for our bodies. It is good for our mind's and spirit's too! Pep talk!!!

Kari, I have never been to Oregon, but sounds like we should plan a trip! You make it sound as green as Ireland, never been there either!!! 2 things on the list! :)  (oh 3, Grand Canyon, must see that as well)!!!)

I rested yesterday, but today jumped back on the cross-trainer and did my 3.4 miles or about 50 minutes. Ladies - do I sweat. This is a great workout! And it takes less time than walking the 4.4 mile park loop. But, I wonder about spinning in the air vs. tredding on God's earth. So, I do a balance of both!!

Back to work! Sending all you cuties hugs hugs hugs!!!

    Spring...

    Hi girlies!

Went to the dentist yesterday after a year of bc treatments...all is well except I need a crown!  shoot!  Why are those darn things so expensive??  I have to get a medical clearance from my onc first since I'm still on the trial drug.

Penny, sent you an email by the way.  Also, my hip is still aggravated, but I doing the exercises the pt gave me faithfully like a good girl! That car trip was a killer sitting in that position so long.

Deanna, I didn't know you were a dealer! LOL!  oh an antique dealer, haha!!  It is a small world isn't it?  I will definitely let you know when we are down that way again.  We usually go once a year in May, but this year we are talking about the fall.  My SIL mostly makes the BEST guac and just eats the avocados as is.

Joy, so sad about the people who died related to that darn fire.  That sucks...Hope your gyn appt goes well on Thurs, keep us posted.

Allie, a cough now?  Geez....hope you feel better soon.  Did you get to yoga today?  Your doggie was probably so happy to see you!

    Ivory-a 10# weighted pack?  WOW!

Spring - the Grand Canyon is a sight to see!!  yes, add it to the list!  We were talking about 'lists' while on our trip.  My SIL was telling me her friend has a roses list, a stop and smell the roses list, that is.  We have a list too, how come it seems to get longer instead of shorter?  LOL  Good job on the trainer today!

Yesterday walked in the a.m. and got my bike out last night for a spin and then my exercises.  We have zucchini coming out of our ears up here!  Brought zucchini breads and zucchinis to Oregon and gave some to the neighbor.  Another neighbor brought me a bag of peaches yesterday!  YUMMY, baked more bread last night for the freezer.  Also, tomatoes are turning red, and we have the biggest tomato plant I've ever seen, the things looks like its on steroids!!  I'll have to give a bunch of those away too!

Make it a great day cuties!

    you ladies are great!

I'm finally getting my behind moving again - and there certainly is a lot more there than I'd realized.  Funny how a couple of surgeries, a couple of steriods, and the fear of lymphodema can delay a return to exericse for almost 2 years after the docs gave me the go ahead (ok, they actually didn't realize that I hadn't started back, so it's really almost 2 years since they first gave me grief about it!)

Looking forward to your words of wisdom and support. .

Hi, Adrienne ~  Welcome!  I would think DC would be a great place to walk!  And if you haven't read our whole thread, somewhere weeks ago we were chatting about the benefit of exercise in preventing a recurrence, which is somewhere in the neighborhood of 35% .  So there's really no excuse not to and every reason to get active!    Deanna

Went to a farmer's market on my lunch hour yesterday at Whole Foods.  It was nice, but sure not nearly as nice as the one we went to up in Lake Oswego!!  Got some nice organic goodies.  Got to talking to a couple of ladies at one stand and bc came up.  They both had a friend that's doing good from bc but also one who has pancreatic c and not doing so well.  Seems you can't turn a corner without the "C" rearing its ugly head.  Even more of a motivator to get out there!!  After that, I put on my tennies and walked around the outside mall there.  Frank Sinatra was blaring on the speakers and I just love him and watching the kids play in the fountains always puts a smile on my face.  But I pooped out last night and went to bed at 8:30!  yikes!!  That trip wore me out more so than I thought. Today is a new day!

    Make it a great one!

    Hi all,

Have had a bit of trouble the last couple of days with my workouts, just don't seem to have the energy to finish. Oh well try again tomorrow. Haven't been walking the doggy either, keeps raining and today we have been on tornado watch.

A few new people here, great and welcome. We are missing a few too! Where is our original energizer bunny? Maybe that is why I have no motivation, Lisa is so active she makes me feel guilty so I exercise!! Lisa where are you I need you back!!

Kari, thanks for the info, we will take that email with us and check out some of those places.

    Later all.

Felt better and more alert yesterday, got out last night and walked the 45 min. loop and was sweating when I got home, but the hip was really bugging me again, darn that thing...got my exercises in though.  Watched So You Think You Can Dance, I just love that show!  Thought of Lisa!!

PK - get moving - now!!!!!

    (then maybe I will too)

    d-double dare ya.

But between lounging for 4 days on the beach in 90+ degree weather I did get out from under the umbrella 2-3 times each day and run in the water for 30-45 mins at a time.  Did the same when we transferred our rested bodies up poolside - laid on the chaises and also did some running in the pool.  Now, back home wiithout a really inspiring area to walk unless I drive to the park and so the motivation is not there.  I'll get there!

I skipped yoga again this morning (argh!) b/c I still have this cold...but it is getting better. My dr called in something for the coughing yesterday and I have been drinking a ton of hot tea with lemon and honey for 2 days. I have a lot of social stuff this weekend so I have to get rid of it soon! Plus I have no energy from not having moved much in a week.

    Stay cool ladies!!

Hi Spring:  Just wondering what a vision board is.  Can you tell me what was on yours...either here or on a private message.

My one year of the intitial diagnosis was July 3, but then my sentinal nodes etc was on July 17...so I don't know which is the one year.  But, I am leaving for Paris on July 17 so I think that is a good way to celebrate the anniversary.  I will see a friend of mine who lives there and then a few days later, I go to London where I am meeting my husband. We are going to the birthday party of a 95 year old cousin of my mother's (I am part English so I have alot of English cousins.) I have been waiting for this trip for a year and I cannot tell you how excited I am to be going.

And I will bring my pedometer and make sure that I do walk alot. :)

    Hugs to all.

Spring ~  Have a wonderful weekend with your DH & DD in DC.  (Sounds like some sort of secretive CIA code!)

Mandy ~  Lucky you!  I know your trip's a week off, but in case you get busy packing and don't check back here before you leave, have a wonderful trip!  You so deserve it after this past year, and I'm sure your family will be so happy to see you, especially the birthday girl, knowing how far you travelled to help her celebrate!

We're sweltering here in CA this week. I'm doing 1-hour walks as early as I can, but it's been an effort to make myself get out there.  When I got in from walking today, I noticed that my reconstructed breast was bright red where it had been radiated. I also noticed that I wasn't sweating on that side due to my AND, so I called my rad onc's nurse for reassurance.  She said that redness returning can happen in the heat -- something about cell memory and reverting to the way it got during radiation.  Just thought I'd share this in case it happens to anyone else...    Deanna

pk, are you getting enough sleep?  I've had a hard time getting across to DH how we need to maneuver our schedule a little, because I need about 2-3 more hours of sleep a night then I used to in order to get through the day.  I can get up and around with less, but sure have no energy for anything but work.  I need that extra sleep if I'm going to be productive when I get home from work.

Made my goals for working out after work again last week and this week.  Took a lot of turn off the phone I need to sleep now, and saying no at work and I'm leaving now.  But they all adapted and this is so important to my health that I'm learning to really put my foot down about those things.  Last night I was dog tired and had been on my feet for hours which meant the neuropathy was killing me.  So, I only did a 2 mile walk and then a 30 min low key yoga session.  I love the fact that that is now what a wimpy day is.

Paris and DC! You lucky girls. I am so jealous. I love both of those cities, but Chicago is still #1, even with all the dems running it. LOL

Spring, make sure you visit the Holocaust museum if you have never seen it. You will never forget it, which is the purpose. We must never forget.

Mandy, My favorite thing to do in Paris is to sit in the Tuilleries and just imagine what it was like in it's royal days, and watch people. You can walk your butt off in Paris, but sitting on a bench with a little "la glace" watching people is how you really get the feel of Paris. Ooh I love it!

    Have a great trip!

I might not be posting much for a while. I just have too much going on right now. But I hope that all of you will keep moving and keep encouraging others. As I bow out, I hope that you all will pick up the mantle and continue motivating each other, just as I tried to "pass it on" after sisters here helped me to get back to life. I hope you all will too. Keep spreading the word ladies. There is life after cancer, and it can be even better than before. I will check it when I can, but  I just need to get my site going and a lot of other projects I have neglected. I love you all! Keep in touch.

Vivre:  The Tuileries sound like a great idea!!!  I am not the world's biggest sight seer--I prefer to walk a bit, sit in a cafe, that kind of thing. And my friend who is meeting me at the airport is a native of Paris so she will certainly have some good ideas.  I have been to Paris twice before...once I was only 6 years old.  And on my second trip, many years later, I was able to find the playground near the Champs Elysees that I had used as a child.  It was really a case of deja vu!  I've been to London quite a number of times and it feels like a second home when I go.  I will stay at  my friend's lovely home, which overlooks one of those charming greens.  I am off to do some pre travel shopping....but I am walking to the stores so that will put at least 3 miles on my pedometer.

Have a nice day to all!

    Mandy
