    Hi everyone,

This is my first time posting - so forgive me if this has been dealt with before.  I am keen to start a gentle colon cleanse before I transition to a raw food and more alkaline diet.  Is there anyone out there who has already done a colon cleanse and can highly recommend a particular regime or a proprietary herbal cleanser/bulking agent?  The internet is a minefield for over enthusiastic marketing on all the different brands....  Also any recommendations for a super duper raw food book that will educate me fully as well as give me realistic and tasty recipes.

    Thank you for reading.

    Love, light and peace

    Karen

Welcome the forum Karen.  There's a lot of choices out there for sure.  I did my first cleanse last year and I got my supplies at www.herbdoc.com.  I chose that site based on recommendations from a women who used to post here.  The site's been through a lot of changes and there used to be a bunch of dr schulze's newsletters online.  He's very passionate about natural healing, and he kind of reminds of a 'foaming at the mouth' evangelical minister sometimes, but I do have confidence that his products are free of chemicals.

I started out with his 'vitality kit'.  Personally, I couldn't handle his 'intestinal formula 1'.  His superfood, however, got rid of the nausea that had plagued me since chemo.  For three years I suffered from nausea every time I tried to ramp up my activity, and it didn't take much for the nausea to set in.  None of the products I tried got rid of my fatigue, unfortunately.  Also, I did not follow all the instructions (ie, follow a vegan diet, juice fasting during the cleanse).  You can still receive benefits from the cleanse if you fall short of all the instructions.

I'm sure there's other good products out there also.  You might also want to read comments at crazysexylife.com in the forum.  I'm sure there's some threads that have other recommendations also.  There's also lots of great recipes for juice and raw food dishes there too.  Natalia Rose is one of my favorites.  She's very practical, knowledgeable, and no foaming at the mouth.  Honestly, some of these vegans will make you think you'll croak tomorrow if you eat one more piece of meat.

My husband and I have been doing a colon cleansing fast every spring for years. I did not do it this year because of chemotherapy, but plan on doing it in the fall instead.

The company is called Blessed Herbs and here is their website: www.blessedherbs.com

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

    Dear Cheryl

Thank you for the recommendation. I liked the look of the blessed herbs programme and the fact that it was organic.  My husband and I are going to go for it.  Did you get any bothersome detox reactions?

    Hi Althea

I am newly on crazy sexy life too but I'm finding it a bit confusing to navigate.  What groups do you post in?

Thanks for the raw food author recommendation.  Your byline "a balanced diet is a cookie in each hand" made me grin - there's nothing like having a sense of humour about food extremism.

     Have a great day

Hi Karen, I find the groups at csl to be confusing also.  The ones I've joined aren't very active.

Since you first posted your question, I got to thinking, you might want to consider transitioning your food choices before doing a cleanse rather than the other way around.  I know for a fact that my food wasn't moving through at a proper rate. At my second reconstruction surgery, they took a peek into my stomach and found it wasn't empty, even though I'd followed instructions about no food or water after midnight the night before. He suggested I go to a gastroenterologist.

I never did go to a doctor for my slow digestion, and I feel like I've learned loads of useful information from Dr Schulze's newsletters. He's so indelicate, always talking about poop, but his information really makes sense to me. You would probably benefit from a clease a lot more if you spend some time getting your digestive tract moving things along at their intended rate, which it probably isn't if you eat refined foods and sugary treats.

    Hi Althea

I totally agree with you about starting my diet transition before the cleanse itself.  Over the last couple of weeks I've been exploring juicing and raw food and have been gradually phasing out chicken and increasing my vegetable/salad intake considerably. Summer is such a great time to do this. My husband and daughter needless to say are sharing the experience too.... Only time will tell if these changes will become permanent.

Thanks I will check out those newsletters.  Before being a f/t mum I used to practise as a clinical kinesiologist and craniosacral therapist in the UK and so I'm pretty used to discussing poop and gut stuff since so much of my work was treating candida and parasites. At the time raw food diets just didn't resonate - but this cancer has made me re-evaluate what I thought was a pretty healthy lifestyle to begin with..... And I am enjoying the learning curve.
    Have a beautiful day

Karen, juicing was going to be my next suggestion.  Get a good juicer and use it every day.  I've been drinking watermelon juice for breakfast the last week or so.  I LOVE it, I'm finally losing some weight, and boy howdy, it'll clean you out.  I use a champion juicer.  The folks at csl have others they recommend.  It's the best kind of health insurance you can buy imo.

I am interested in this and have some questions for you. I am on hormonal therapy for stage 4 and don't have times w/o treatment. I am concerned about doing a cleanse of any kind because of this. I am wondering what I can do to help clean out/move things along in another way. I have a juicer and VitaMix and wondering what you might suggest. I did look at CSL but they seem a bit more advanced than where I am at. Any suggestions, books, references etc welcome.

    Help?

I've stage iv also and do not do hard cleanses while in treatment.  You need to be careful because a lot of cleanses take out metals and minerals that are in you chemos. Juicing is find because it will make the stomach and colon move faster and not work as hard but will not strip out chemos.

If you do get a break from chemo than do a good cleanse.

Karen, Sometimes i would get a headache and need to sleep more during the fast. I always take the week off of work so I can rest when I need to.

I've been reading the other peoples posts on this thread. The beginning of the fast that I do has an herbal digestive stimulant to ensure that things are moving through the intestines at a good rate. I continue to tale the digestive stimulator throughout the juice fast, and after while I get back to my normal diet.

Unfortunately (or fortunatley) I have been able to bypass chemo for the time being and was put directly on Hormonal Therapt (Lupron and Femara) There will be no breaks from the treatment until it stops working and we look for another drug. This has been my concern about the cleanses..I am afraid to do one and possibly "mess" with the meds but would like to do all I can to clean out and support organs that are probably taking a beating. I guess I will look more into juicing and blending w/my VitaMixer.  Since I am on significant pain meds, digestive/bowol health is a priortiy for me right now.

Picked up Natalie Rose book and a few others about nutrition/raw diet/juicing/blending.

EBW, I agree with your thinking. I think a cleanse right now may be too much for your body and all the new meds. The side effects may be more severe at this point. How long have you been on hormonal therapy?

Somewhat off the subject (!) I was at a Nia dance celebration yesterday which was a joyful first..... anyway I met a committed raw foodist and she highly recommended Susan Schenks book "The Live Food Factor" which contains a lot of research and information to support a move to this way of eating.  Sounds like the raw food bible.  Have any of you guys read this? Just wanted you to know about it:)

Cheryl, I have been on hormonal therapy for 2 1/2 yrs now.  I've found that the longer I am on the Lupron & Femara, the more SEs I have but it has kept the cancer stable, for which I am very thankful.  I am looking to doing things that will help support my body as it also deals with the cancer and the treatment, try to ease the stress, etc.

Thanks Wooly for the info on the book, I'll have to check it out.
