ache/pain in legs
Hi Ladies,
I finished w/ chemo last month and will start rads tomorrow. I am trying to stay positive and enjoy living life now that I am feeling better (chemo was very difficult for me). The past few days I have been feeling an ache in my legs..nothing painful, but almost like the ache you would experience after a workout. The feeling comes and goes. Anyway, I am trying to not think every ache and pain is related to cancer, but of course that is easier said then done. Any insight? Thanks ladies!!!

Melissa: I also finished chemo a month ago....what chemo did you have? I had just finished Taxol, and the pain in my legs, especially knees, and my hands and sometimes my back has been worse than while I was doing the tx. I do believe it is not uncommon for us to have pain for a few weeks/months after tx. Same thing with the numbness, although that is starting to subside for me. (except my arms constantly fall asleep at night).
I just take tylenol, it doesn't help much but it's all I can take; most women get something stronger from their docs. Yesterday I thought I was dying, I had so much pain and fatigue, but today I feel pretty good. Take it one day at a time, each day seems slightly different from the last.....and of course, call your doctor to discuss your worries!

Ladies could your white counts be low? This can make you very achy.

For two weeks I have had also leg pain and it is very mild pain and I don't know if it is from the running I did 2 weeks ago or still remain from the toxol. The pain was on and off and it was not there yesterday and today although I scheduled a meeting with my onc for tomorrow to ask what to do.

Did you do any receptor test for your DCIS in 2004? Was it ER + DCIS?

FL Lady: my blood counts stayed pretty good throughout chemo, so I don't know if that would be the problem or not....I never saw my blood work report the last 3 times, since they kept cancelling my chemo, and I forgot to ask for it.
Newalex: NO! They never tested it in 2004, I asked after I received the first path report, and they said they couldn't test it at that point. They still wanted to put me on Tamoxifen, but I turned it down, since they didn't even know if it was er+
Melissa: how are your aches doing today? any better? mine were better today, thank goodness, I had a very busy day/night.

Hi
I am getting a lot of pain in arms and legs and it is due to the 4xTaxotere chemo. this was after 4xEC. so i guess it would be a SE og the drug that u have taken. check with yr onco.
Lets fight together

I spoke w/ the onc. nurse today...she said this was a very common complaint. The taxatere is a strong chemo and she said my body is trying to rebuild itself and the ridding the chemo from my body. Her advice was to take a pain reliever.
On another bright note...my fingernails have been getting nasty...like a whitish "gel" growing from top to bottom...well I cut my nails down short so they wouldn't fall off, but one did today...yuck!
I also started rads today which was a breeze, but I wasn't expecting to be so tired. Luckily, my boys were in camp so I got a nap in.
Anybody know when these chemo SE go away for good?

i too have the achy leg thing going on. usually it's my right femur and rarely on the left. i finished ac chemo in october but still struggle with my wbc counts. i too was worried but i definately think it's my body trying to rebuild itself. try not to worry-easier said than done. tina

I am wondering too when the Se will go away. its just been a week since the last chemo. Any feedbacks?

Everyone is different on recovery from SE. I've met ladies who were back too normal in a few months other's than up to two years...

Revisiting this topic....
I'm now 11 wks out, and still get aches and pains all over. When I get up from sitting, my legs hurt.....my hands are always stiff (can chemo cause arthritis?).....my knees hurt when I use the stairs. None of the aches/pains are constant (except the stiff hands), and not severe enough for pain killers, but still annoying. And now my arms keep falling asleep every night, and in the morning when I move them I get a burning/searing pain as the blood comes back....hurts like heck!!! (I just emailed my onc about that)
On a good note, my neuropathy has all but gone away, just get some tingling here and there, and the arm thing, which seems to be more of a circulation problem???
I still have days when I am so tired. It seems like I should be getting past all of this by now. I mean, I do have good days where my energy level is better, and I get things done....then I have days at a time where I am too tired to do much.
I read posts from women here who seem to feel pretty good within a few weeks after chemo, or are walking/running long distances...and feel like I should be able to do that, too. It's so frustrating to feel better, yet not feel better, you know?
Thanks for listening, I hate to gripe, but need to know I'm not alone in this.
Hugs
Judy

I also have right leg pains and I had a CT scan 3 months ago and everything was fine. But my leg pain came only 2 months ago and the pain is also on and off and not really pain no need to take pain killer but it is a strange kind of pain feeling and it is sometimes in the knee, sometimes in the back and sometimes on the butt. I don't know if it is due to chemo or if is because I had an accident, a small accident I feel down on my butt.
My tumor mark is normal and my doctor said he doesn't want me to do a scan. I am worried like hell. I finished chemo nearly 5 months ago. Anyone had similar experience?

Hi Alex....It's been a while..hope all is well. I just wanted to tell you that I think you may have sciatica. I had that crazy pain years ago and It sounds just like what you are experiencing. The sciatic nerve is enormous...Runs from the butt down through the hip and leg. It really hurt like crazy at night when I tried to sleep, There are a lot of butt squeezing exercises that help alleviate the annoying pain. It goes away with time but often comes back when you are run down due to a virus or stress. It takes a while for the chemo to wear off...These odd things are common. I was dx with shingles about 2-years after treatment...crazy.....
