Actually, my best buddy lives in Port Perry and she is also going through this lovely journey. She has finished all of her treatments and is on the mend, so all is well. Hope you are well to.

No my friend doesn't really want to join in here. I tell her she 'for information but anyway she just doesn't want to. Ironically, I was in the Dragonboats with the hospital team from Lindsay before I was diagnosed. I don't think I want to be in a servivor boat. At least not right now. It is really an amazing day though isn't it. Maybe we should hook-up then and I'll bring my friend along. She really is alot of fun.

my name is Jo, and I'm new here and from Toronto. Just got biopsy results for a lump I found myself - inconclusive but atypia suspicious for malignant, so the general surgeon/oncologist who did the biopsy recommended (with the caveat that the breast surgeon will have the final say) that we proceed as if cancer, i.e., lumpectomy with wide margins and lymph nodes. Did anyone else go to surgery not knowing for sure? I feel weird because on the one hand I'm facing so far the road that the folks who are diagnosed early stage face, but I don't actually know what it is exactly. Also, any experiences with wait times - my consultation with the breast surgeon is booked, but is  in mid-August 09 (i.e., around 6 week wait). How long does it usually take between initial breast surgeon consult and surgery? Will that be another month? I hate the thought of this thing growing in me for another 2 months or more. I can feel it easily (it's in the axillary tail), and it has gotten a bit larger over the last few weeks.

You're definitely at one of the best hospitals to be dealing with this, which makes the waiting period even more surprising......blame it on summer holidays??  Yes, I would definitely talk with your GP about the wait......I found that to be the most difficult part in the beginning but I'm also a bit of a control freak . 

I am being treated out of Mt. Sinai, right beside you, but my radiation will be done at Princess Margaret.  My surgeon was Dr. Jaimie Escallon who had the most amazing bedside manner during his role in my journey.  His office is in the Marvelle Koeffler Breast Centre on the 12th flr in Mt. Sinai and I highly, highly recommend him!!!  My surgery went well eventhough two of my margins were close but clear.  My lymph nodes were clear so no drains were put in :-)).  The pain was managed by Tylenol 3, and for me, the pain wasn't in the breast as much as where the sentinel node biopsy was done.  I still don't have all of the feeling back in my armpit but there is no pain, and still have bruising around the nipple of my affected breast (surgery done Feb 18th).  To be fair here though, between the invasive tumor and the extensiveness of the DCIS, he was forced to remove 6.8cm x 6.3cm x 2.8cm, and I am not big breasted!! 

I know how scary this all is for you but you can get through it.......we are so much stronger than we realize!!  Feel free to send me a private message if you wish.  Big Hugs to you ((( )))

Good day ladies, Keswick, ON here (Lake Simcoe) Mantra? Barbe lives very close to you.  Path. came back yesterday (finally...) op. 09/09/09 - false/positive reading of nodes. One has cancer, one is mets and one negative.  More surgery and then chemo........and the ride continues.  ((Hugs)) to all and hope for a better future.  Although I would prefer not to be part of this site, I cannot think of a better group of woman to walk this trail with.
