Is anyone here a triple negative and BRCA 2+, who's doing well after 5 years? I know there's the FORCE website for this question, but I wanted to ask here...

My friend's mother is 19 years out and brca 2+

They were just starting to do hormone testing when she was diagnosed and she did not take tamox because the docs felt she was hormone negative.

    so there ya go!

    Hi

I have just found out I am BRCA1+ and more than 12 years out from my 1st triple neg dx and 3 years out from my 2nd triple neg dx.  I also had positive nodes both times.

    Hope this helps

Thanks for the replies. My sister is almost 20 years out and is BRCA 2+, but hers wasn't triple negative. I'm just going through a "freak out" stage. Yoga...I need more Yoga...

I am only 1 year out but I have heard 5 years is an amazing mark for us. I read a recent article that states it is unlikely to have any recurrance of the same triple neg cancer after 5 years!

In 08, you had DCIS and they tested ER+? Do they give you tomoxifon?

I had genetic testing and found out I am BRCA 2+. With the recommendation of my geneticist I had a hysterectomy/oophorectomy last June. I'm wondering if they would have given me Tamoxifen after my first diagnosis if I wouldn't have had the second new primary diagnosis? The doctors seem to "expect" a recurrence, not a new primary. Go figure...

Hi. I am a 23-year survivor. When I was diagnosed, my tumor was ER/PR negative, but there was no HER test in 1986. However, my doctor is convinced I was triple negative because I was diagnosed young (37) and later tested positive for BRCA2. I think one reason that we don't hear much about longer-term survivors of triple negative is because the discovery of HER is relatively recent. So, prior to that, the diagnosis of triple negative didn't exist. That doesn't mean, however, that no one prior to the discovery of HER was actually triple negative. I'm sure that there were many of us, and it would be so interesting to try to track other women like me to see how many of us have done this well. My best to you all.
