I was a very early triple negative.  I received a lumpectomy and a sentinel node biopsy.  Only one node was taken and my nodes were clean.  My margins were clear.

I received 6 rounds of Taxotere and carboplatin chemo.  Doses were given IV every third week.  I am currently in the process of receiving 33 radiation treatments to my breast.  I'll be done in a couple of weeks.

I was very early TNBC, .75cm,had a sentinel node biopsy and a lumpectomy. 2 nodes taken, both clear. I took 4xA/C followed by 35 rads, including 5 boosts. However, since my treatments finished in May 2009, I had the BRCA gene test and discovered that I was BRCA2 +. Now I will probably have my ovaries removed and a double mastectomy as prevention. I am supposed to start Zometa on July 1, 2009. this is for recurrence of the first cancer.

When we women are dx with TNBC, I think we should have the gene test then before treatments start. The BRCA gene mutation changes everything!

Did you get any toxol as well or just AC? Why your onc recommend zometa in your case?

How imp is to get the BRCA test done?  My onco here does not talk about it.

I was Dx 12th Feb 09. Then lumpuctomay and Axillary node removed.  9 out of 15 tested positive.  since then 4 cycles of EC and then 3 of Taxotere.  waiting for the last tax cycle.  Have already been told for 30 cycles of rads.  Then the PET scan.

I want to know more about BRCA test.

My insurance covered it if you met certain family history criteria.  I met the criteria with flying colors.  My Mom had BC estrogen positive, my Dad died of prostate cancer, his mother died of probable ovarian cancer and two of Dad's brother had BC.  Much to my total shock I was BRACA negative so no more surgery for me.  I was so ready to have it all done I really had mixed feelings about being negative.  It really doesn't mean that I didn't inherit the tendency just not the BRACA genes.

    Hi Jean12

I'm an IDC triple neg.  Double mastectomy right before new year's, and since then did 4 AC dose-dense treatments then 3 of 4 Taxotere treatments (was supposed to have 4, but had to stop because of neuropathy).  I'm now about a week from finishing my 25 rads (rads recommended for me because of large tumor size and suspicious internal mammary (IM) lymph node seen on PET scan).  Oh yeah, I'm also waiting on BRCA results!

So sorry about your recent diagnosis, but you've found the right place for information, support, and commiseration.  Do you have specific questions?

I was diagnosed on 1/7/09 and had a lumpectomy on 1/27/09.  My tumor was 1.5 cm and they removed 4 lymph nodes, which were all negative.  I had four rounds of chemo - taxotere and cytoxan - and am getting ready to finish up 33 rounds of radiation next week.  I go for a mammogram next week and will meet with a genetic counselor on 7/15 to see if I should get tested.

This is a great place for support and information.  I wish you the best on this journey.

My Mom In Law - aged 94. Is scheduled for Total Mastectomy on July 7. Her tumor is grade 2 IDC with lymph involvement. She goes in on 7/6 for the nuclear injection of the nodes. She also has Congestive Heart Failure so this all has to be done under a local. The Doc says he will only have to remove tissue (no muscle) and whatever nodes involved. She is small breasted probably less than an A. She is aprehensive and would prefer to let well enough alone, but my husband and bro, don't want her to SUFFER thru any cancer pain. We don't know how long her heart will last. Maybe 6 mos or less, w/o a stent, which is how they found the cancer. Her heart dr won't do a stent if she is only going to suffer w/ cancer. Anyone have any suggestions on how I can help her deal with issues AFTER surgery. She won't be having Chemo or Radiation after because of heart and age. She is a tiny 4'9 woman, but very negative. She doesn't believe in God any more. I am the only one in the family who does and am praying about it and have many people supporting me this way.  But those of you who have dealt with this surgery... I look for your personal experience...to better help her.  Thanks.... in advance.  I don't log on daily, but will check back... Best wishes to all of you going thru this.

    cheri7,

I'm sorry you and your family are going thru this, I know it is very difficult.  Has your mother in law been active, or limited by the congestive heart failure?  I know it's difficult for your husband and brother in law to let go, but it really should be her decision. I'm a nurse, and have seen lots of familles push loved ones to keep fighting when they dont' want to.  Is she going to be able to deal with the pain from the surgery, and move around enough to keep the congestive heart failure from getting worse? It's a very difficult decision for anyone to make, and if she's negative it's probably even worse, but she may just be tired of dealing with it all. I don't think the breast cancer it's self would cause her a lot of pain, unless it has spread somewhere, but it's hard to say. Since he isn't taking out the muscle, she shouldn't have as much pain, but at her age healing might be an issue I would think. I think all you can do is try to help her stay positive, telling her it could help prevent her from having more pain later if it did spread. I'm sorry if I'm rambling, had chemo today and brain is just tired.  Best wishes to you and your family
