Deanna - ok I missed something, why did you need a diuretic?  Were you retaining water?  I looked up Evista, that's for osteoporosis and to keep invasive bc away, is that right?  Are you going to take it?  Thinking about you.  And I can't believe you walked at 11am it must have been dangerously hot out there! be careful!!

Kari ~  I haven't felt 100% yet (post tx), and I'd also noticed that I wasn't losing any weight -- after at least 3 (maybe 4?) months of walking.  I don't really need to lose weight, but it just seemed odd to me that I wasn't dropping maybe a pound a month at least.  Then I started wondering if maybe my swollen fingers weren't chemo-induced arthritis afterall (what I'd resigned myself to having), but maybe just some serious water retention. So when I was @ Wal-Mart a few days ago, I picked up a natural diuretic product and have had some noticeable improvement with it.  But I felt I was still retaining water a lot of water, so told my PCP about it yesterday.  At first, she said my blood pressure is already very low (thanks to the walking!), so she hesitated.  Then she looked at my hands and ankles, and wrote me an RX.  Well, hallelujiah!  I lost 2 lbs. of water overnight, and feel sooooo much better.  I've recently learned that Taxotere can absolutely induce edema (I think it was 27% of patients), and I think I was still suffering from it.

Probably more info' than you wanted to know (LOL),  but I'm sharing it in case anyone else has similar symptoms that they haven't connected to possibly being chemo-induced edema.  And, you know, as I'm writing this, I'm suddenly wondering if chemo-brain might even be more edema-related than anything?  Hmmm....  Wouldn't that be interesting?!

I'm not sure about the Evista yet.  In the past few days I've read research (cited on various threads here) that swings both ways -- not about Evista, per se, but about Tamox, which is probably the closest thing to it, although my PCP says they don't work the same.  D.

My shoes no longer fit had to buy all new ones. I am sure its water retention from all the treatments,All this exercise I am doing haven't dropped more than a few pounds. I was blaming the tamox but it could just be all the hell we have been through in general.

Yes!  I've noticed that, too!  My favorite summer flats no longer fit, and I've also gone up 1/2 a shoe size when I shop.  I hadn't made that connection!  Not sure about tamox (since I don't take it), but I'm now convinced Taxotere is a culprit!

Deanna, and all you other cuties and beauties...

Cripes. I wonder what my ONC will say when I give her the list of supplements I am taking! And we're not even in typically more progressive California!!!

I am wondering if I should switch from Tamoxifen to Evista, but this is for another board I suppose! I am going to ask the Onc. I was an "extreme metabolizer" of tamoxifen, so she rec'd that. Who the heck knows. I looked at the research (such as it is) and it was suggesting that Evista was as effective as Tamoxifen, without all the SE's, or less SE's.

Did you all hear about the recent research on Parp inhibotors busting the heck out of cancers? Hopeful. And do you know, that these Parp inhibotor chemos are (A). a pill, and (B), your hair does NOT falll OUT!!!!!!

Oh guess what. I moved the mini tramp into my home office and was bouncing today!!!! Others here called this 'rebounding' and it is supposed to stimulate your lymph system to detox! Woot!

    Springie Ding ding. lol

Ok cuties and beauties (love that!),

Just reading quickly before I jet outta work here!  Thanks Deanna for the info.  I've gained a couple of pounds since chemo and am Tamox....hmmm!  and I've always been a skinny thing.  I've wondered about why too.

Parp inhibitors?  have to check that out.  DH said we need to buy a pedometer!  maybe a mini-tramp/rebounder too?

Ok I gotta get outta here!

    Have a great weekend!

Muma-I just noticed your fat cat avatar! LOL I have one who looks like a clone!

Beamer and I did about 50 miles this week. It is way to hot to walk. At least there is a breeze on the bike, and the path goes through the woods a lot.

MBCR-It is great that you are walking through rads! I did too and my doctors kept telling me the fatique would hit, and it never did. I walked everyday after treatments. I met a new rad onc the last week. He could not believe how well I was doing. He said I would now be his poster child for walking during rads. Keep going! Take lots of deep breaths too, all the oxygen is great!

    MB,

Ditto to what Vivre said, I walked every day during RADs, and I also never did experience the fatigue! I also worked just PT and rested after treatments, which for me were in the late afternoon. KEEP IT UP!!!!

Just have to get to the gym more often.  Got there this morning for the aquacize class.  The class is so-so because the instructor doesn't really push but then I stay for another 30 minutes of jogging in the water.  It's amazing that you can easily jog in water but can't do it for more than a few minutes on land.  Also want to try and use the elliptical(sp?).  I've tried it in the past and also could not stay on more than 10 minutes.  Guess water is my forte!  Actually sweat in the water.  At least I'm moving but need to get up and walk daily.

Oh right ladies! I walk everyday with the mutt - twice. and the other day actually got the bike out and rode for a while but I have a low tire so will take it to get pumped up on Monday. Did the 20 minute Zumba tape and still have no rythm but the two left feet are getting better. If it wasnt' so hot it might be more enjoyable. Thunder storm passing through now.

Patoo - do you know how to do the "Charleston". Try it in the water. That was something I always made my class do. Kick leg in front of you then put a lunge in it. I loved exercising in the water. And yes you can sweat in there too. Squats hanging on the side of the pool was good. Try it with your feet normal position and then heels together.  Squat down down and walk like a duck. I could go now forever for you.

Well I'm trying to enjoy the three days of first shift. I go back on second on Monday. I'll just be getting use to going to sleep early again. Our yoga teacher is taking July off so I don't go back to that till August. I'll find something else to get into. I'll get the bike fixed and ride it. You are right that at least you have a breeze with that. And now I am trying to exercise at home. Hope ya'll have a great weekend. My isn't till Tues/Wed. Joy

Thanks Sobx, will add some of those as well.  I really love the water.  Makes it lots easier also on my right hip which has been acting up lots the last couple of weeks.  Have to remember to take my glucosamine regularly again - it gave me so much relief in the past.

I was proud of myself for making all my goals for working out last week despite being back full time at work.  Now today my neuropathy is killing me, hurts to walk at all, and I'm trying to figure out how to get a good work out in since my original plans for a long walk and a little run aren't realistic.  I know the alternatives, just so stupidly stubborn it will take awhile to get my brain adjusted to changing what I wanted to do.

Mumayan-Your cat just makes me laugh every time I look at it. Honestly, my white fatso looks exactly the same! But he doesn't drink! Only water. LOL

Hubby and I took a long ride on the Illinois Prairie Path today. There are miles and miles of trails along former RR right aways and through preserves. It is great because it is shaded most of the time and no cars. We have been riding this trail for decades and I hope we can do this until we are very old.

Different kind of exercise today - dancing at a celebration luncheon for cancer survivors.  Only problem is they also had plenty of food so hopefully I danced it off and broke even. LOL

Hi, all ~  Well, it was a sizzler here today -- 111.  I couldn't get myself out of bed early enough to walk before it got hot, and I was too lazy to drive to the mall (which would have been much smarter).  Determined not to miss a day, I just finished 1.5 miles in 106 degree heat (@ 8:00 p.m.).  Sweatin' out that chemo!!!  So I racked up a total of 19.8 miles this week, and DH commented twice this weekend that I'm looking thinner -- which isn't the point, but a nice extra benefit from all this sweating!

kmmd ~  Congrats on meeting your workout goals!  Are you taking B6 for the neuropathy?  It's helped me in the past.  vivree ~  That bike path sounds lovely.  And mum, I'll bet if you'd been wearing a pedometer while shopping, you might have racked up quite a few steps/miles.  It's all good ~    Deanna

It must be too hot everywhere.  No one seems motivated today!

Kari, I just noticed another gal on here from Lincoln.  I think she posted on the progesterone thread.    Deanna

    Hi All,

Didn't do great on the exercising front this weekend, but back on it today. But that is not what I wanted to share. I had an MRI done this morning as a followup to the one in Dec before rads. The radiologist called me later at work and informed me that while he has only looked at it briefly, all looks good!! He said there is less enhancement this time and virtually no enhancement at the scar. He had not at that time consulted with one of the breast specialists but I am confident that that will not change. It was a very long weekend waiting for this to get done, and now I can relax until Sept when I have my mammo.

    So yeah for me!!

    Hi Ladies!

DH and I celebrated 25 years of marriage yesterday! I jumped on the eliptical cross-trainer for 3.3 miles (45 min) and then we took off and drove to the beach for the day.

Didn't exercise yet today! So I have the cross trainer ahead of me, because it is also too hot to walk here leter in the day!

Yay Penny! Great to get good results... :)
