Well summer has arrived here! Who sent all this heat? I can't stand it. DH and I took a bike ride before sunset but it was still 90.

PK-you better be careful about inviting me up there. I just may show up! I heard Calgary is beautiful  and cool!

Muma-I love to play golf too, but only 9 holes at a time. I walk the course too, and by the time I get to 9 I am too soaked from sweat to go farther. The humidity is terrible here in the summer. And now that it is warm all the mosquitoes will be out in droves. I already got bit twice tonight pulling weeds after our ride. I hate summer!

Anytime Vivre, anytime, well except last two weeks of July, on vacation! Only the dog and the dog sitter will be here.

Just finished out doggy walk, not sure who is more tired, hubby doggy or me! Also did my workout after work so...

Mumayan, I do believe our energizer bunny is away, haven't heard from her in awhile.

Well talk to you all Thursday, have a training session tomorrow, I am supposed to be a super user, what a joke, I can barely use the program we are using now! oh well.

Have a great rest of the week, and a big hi to all

Patoo, I am a graduate of Rutgers University! Woot! We sometimes visit New Brunswick when back in the area to get some Lebanese food at one of our favorite places there... ah, the old days.. (Met my husband at college, so it is like our old "courting grounds", LOL)

Wanted to report that I did 50 minutes on the eliptical X-trainer last night, while watching 2 Episodes of "The Barefoot Contessa" on DVR!!! Funny, I'm dripping sweat and she is cooking with butter and cream! This is the closest I get to those recipes any more! LOL...

Didn't walk this AM, but have Warrior Woman Yoga tonight. Love this class!

Hot here too, well, it's only in the 80's for a few days, then back up later this week...

Kari, happy DD is ok, and so happy for Carissa

Spring, barefoot contessa and 50 min. I love that thought.  Warrier woman yoga is the perfect name for what you've been through. Personally I got hooked on the home and garden channel when I was home during chemo times

hotbolt. we'll keep on helpoing. The people I asked to vote have been updating me on how its going, you have a lot of people routing for you

Kari, I'm also very glad to hear that your daughter's swine flu turned out to be a mild case, and that you and DH didn't come down with it.  I'm also so happy to hear that Carissa and baby are home and doing well.

I'm also a huge Barefoot Contessa fan.  I just love the knack she has for turning something as simple as lunch with a friend into a celebration.

I had my healing touch massage this a.m.  What a nice benefit of still being considered "a cancer patient" -- probably the only one!   While I was there, I dropped off some info' my rad onc's RN had requested on what I'm doing instead of an A/I.  So as I was leaving, she stopped me to thank me, and said she had never heard of  I3C, DIM, curcumin, etc., nor was she familiar with the stats on the benefits of exercise.  She seemed genuinely interested, which kind of surprised me.

Okay, Holtbolt ... I'm off to that website to vote for you & your son.  Good luck!  Hope you win.    Deanna

I ladies I too am a fan of the Barefoot contessa I have all her books. Every recipe I have tried has been very good.Especially for entertaining.

Played golf today got heat stroke had to pull off the road to throw up.  Cop rolls up behind me and of course asks if I had been drinking.  I said yes but only water and still got heat stroke.  He took one good look at me and told me to rest awhile before driving on. what a day!

The barefoot contessa, puts me to sleep. I don't know her voice is just so banal.LOL

Deanna, that was so interesting that you have your rad onc's nurse asking questions! Hooray, there is hope out there that maybe doctors will listen to us and make this standard protocol. I loved my rad onc. She was a dear, but her nurses made me very upset when they kept pushing the arimidex when I was having all kinds of anquish about it. It was my rad onc who told me that maybe I should wait until I finished rads before I started the arimidex because I was such a basket case. Well, that was it for me. I tossed the pills and never looked back!

Hotbolt, I tried to vote, but couldn't figure it out. Maybe that new link will work, so I will try again. Have you left a message with the Illinois gals? They seem to be very active and would be happy to help a neighbor I am sure.

Holtbolt - I voted for you. Best of luck for your son. I won tickets to Jimmy Buffett and took my son with me in April. We had a great time.  The heat wave is back so I am trying to do some exercise in the house. I have aluncheon to go to this afternoon at work. The maintenance man is retiring so we are going out to lunch. Then I am helping a lady put down some carpet in her apartment. So I'll be busy today. Went to Yoga on Wednesday too. Hey - at least I am going back on first shift for a few days. Have a great on everyone. I'll be back for an update later. Joy

OK did the 4.4 mile loop with DH this am, and Deanna, I jogged for 200 steps during the last mile! I felt like I was masquarading as a runner, but it felt good! I thought of you !!

I also do Healing Touch! I have a friend who sees me about once a week. She is such a dear. Then we go to Yoga class!  Yoga last night was so nice. The insturctor was "injured" so it was much more "gentle" than what she's been putting us through of late!! It was a lovely change. More spiritual and restorative than physically taxing. Nice!

I love Ina Garten! Ivory, lol, no, no stickey buns, but she does have a recipe for them I think! Not on my diet now! Deanna, I agree, I love how it's not so much about the food, though I love her approach to food, but about the party, the mood. Anyway. We need more focus on celebration in general!!! I feel, so I like watching her!

Isnt' it interesting that even in CA the medical staff does not know about these basics?  Exercise, sugar, I3C, DIM, curcumin. We have a long way to go....

Those of you in the 'scorch' zone, be careful today...they said 'dangerously hot' in most of the country!  Our heat is breaking for today only and it feels good out right now.  Did some stretching/walking before work this a.m.

Is Healing Touch massage a specialized form of massage girls??  Also, I bought some curcumin spice, but am not sure what to make with it??????? I'm a bozo in the kitchen I think, lol!!  I made the mistake of opening it and tasting it, and it was awful! so now I'm afraid to put it in anything...oh brother...enlighten me please!!!!!  Are 13C and DIM supplements as well?

So I got out of my Avastin treatment today because of my exposure to the Swine Flu.  My clinical trials nurse called me yesterday and said she talked to the Chair of the study, who said she had been waiting for that phone call, regarding Swine and she and another oncologist (mine is out of the country) said they recommend me skipping this week and not rescheduling it.  By the time my treatments are over I will still have gotten over 90% so that works for me.  Only 2 more left then and I get a break!  I feel like I'm playing hooky!

I've been a bit sad lately, I've been following the story of the teens arrested for the murder of the girls mom (my old neighbor) and its such been so tragic.  My heart breaks for the mom.  But trying to embrace LIFE most definitely.

I love Ina Garten too!   My DD have made recipes from her shows/books, and they are always fabulous and I like the celebratory nature of her shows too.  I like Giada too, and my husband loves her, haha  well loves to look at her! LOL!

Lisa, are you still out there?  just thinking about ya

    Take care today!!

Kari, there are some sad things. I am trying to imagine being a huge "brook stone" in a rushing brook. And let water/angst/sadness (whatever!) wash over me and around me, but not "break me up or scatter me", not "wash me away". There is no avoiding it, like the brook stone can't avoid the water.Life goes on and while most is so good, there are some rough things...

Ah well, how philosophical of me! But I was just thinking about this imagery yesterday.  Thought I would share. I am a very visual person...

Kari ~  Healing Touch can be a couple of things -- at least that's what I've experienced.  The first practitioner I went to was amazing.  She had studied healing arts in China, and she used an extremely gentle touch incorporated with a lot of psychic-intuitive energy to give healing to your body.  You could almost feel an electric charge of energy from her.  She was really gifted.  The new one they have now does more of a traditional chair massage, but she's very gentle and focuses on whatever you tell her you need.  Yesterday I asked her about using reflexolgy to rid our bodies of toxins, and she did some of that for me.  This is at our local hospital, which is very upscale.  In fact, they just opened a new wing of rooms that would rival anything you'd find at a Four Seasons, Ritz Carlton, or other 5 star resort.  It's where the Betty Ford Center is.  This building is the Lucy Curci Cancer Center at Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, and yesterday we were half-jokingly calling it Spa Curci.  If you ever see this place, you'll know what I mean -- waterfalls, light constellations on the ceilings in the rad tx rooms, cute dogs to entertain patients while you wait for treatment.  It's really lovely.

As far as the RN not knowing about some of the stuff we do, I'm not surprised.  Afterall, I hadn't heard of I3C or DIM (and now that interesting new one that vivre's found) until I read about them here, and I've always been into nutrition.  And even though everyone knows that exercise is always good for us, I didn't know the stats about it preventing bc or a recurrence until Lisa gave them here.  And, again, this was the local hospital -- not UCLA, where they have an entire department of complimentary medicine staffed with docs who have PhD's in this stuff.

Yay for the break, Kari!  And great that you're doing yoga, and getting some first shift days, Joy ~

Well, I'm seeing my PCP today.  Will of course share anything interesting I find out for us ~  Deanna

    Hello Ladies

Just popping in!  Been crazy busy...but it's all good!  Kari sorry to hear about the swine flu exposure!  I've had a cold the last week or so...but it's on it's way out!  It doesn't like all the zumba! LOL

Taught Zumba this morning at 8, been running errands all day and I'm teaching zumba at 6:30 for team survivor!  Planning on going dancing this weekend.  Taking my Zumba class on a "field trip"! LOL  There is a local band that plays all 80's music, so we are headed out for a night on the town!

Other than that...went and say my hair stylist today...she couldn't believe the curls in my hair!  It was poker straight before.  She cleaned up the edges and I made an appointment in five weeks so she can texturize it.  I'm keeping it this length...love it!

Well, I'm off!  Keep exercising....is does a body good!

    Make it a great day!

    Hugs

    Lisa

Ok Spring, that was really cool!  You see I just went for a walk on one of the trails since it wasn't scorching hot but nevertheless hot out and I stopped on the bridge over a waterway, nobody was around so I just stood there with my eyes closed listening to the water rush over the rocks and listened to the trees rustle in the wind and while breathing deeply I imagined the water rushing from my head and swiping all 'bad' stuff out.  I did that for a few minutes before heading back.  I felt so renewed afterward.  Then I came back and read your post!  Made me smile...you understood and experienced the same thing!  How cool is that!?

Deanna, your first practitioner reminded me of my Reiki session!  Your center sounds amazing!  It didn't surprise me that its in Rancho Mirage - very nice!! I did google the DIM and I3C and read an article that kinda confused me, said they don't know if long term supplement use can be toxic??  WHAT? so I kinda freaked out....I never know what to believe sometimes, you know?  So you girls taking the DIM and I3C, are you taking these because you aren't taking Tamox or an AI? sorry to be so lame on all this stuff.

    Thanks ladies!

Well, I thought about you all -- especially you, mum -- as I was walking just now.  I made the BIG mistake of not getting out there until amost 11:00, and needless to say, it's dripping sweat HOT here by that then.  But a couple of recent days I haven't walked until sundown, and the bugs were a pain -- not only biting, but I had one fly in my mouth a couple of nights ago. Yes, yuk!!  Anyway, your heat stroke story, mum, was on my mind.  Sounds like you're okay today though.  Oh, and love the cute avatar!

And, as you said, Kari, about the sweating -- toxins out!!!   Yay!!!

Meg ~  You will absolutely have to call me if you get out this way again.  Since joining BCO, I've met 4 women from this site who either live in the area or were vacationing here, and I have to say, it was so much fun -- instant sisterhood.

My app't. with my PCP yesterday was a mixed bag.  On the one hand, she gave me a diuretic, which I sorely needed.  The only problem with that was, I took it last night @ bedtime, then sat down to read about SEs, and the first thing was -- Warning!  Do not take @ bedtime.  Needless to say, I didn't sleep all that well, but it worked great!  Other than that, she wasn't nearly as open to some of the newer things I had on my list to ask her about, specifically iodoral and natural progesterone.  I posted a comment on each of those threads, so won't go into it here.  She was interested in the 2:16 estrogen ratio thing, and asked for more info' on it.  She was also disappointed that I haven't started the Evista yet, and sort of lectured me using words like "recurrence" and "not protected," to which I defended myself with "4 miles a day"and "I3C," etc.,  but she still was pretty adamant about wanting me to try the Evista.     Deanna
