Hello and thank you for reading this post. My name is Angela and I have stage one breast cancer and also 2 Aunts who died from it in their 40's. I'm 46 and I have medicaid and can't find anyone in Las Vegas who will take medicaid to get the gene testing done. I've tried UCLA and also the City of Hope Cancer Treatment Center in Duarte California. I'm having more margin taken out along with a few nodes on Friday. I'll be following up with radiation and possible chemo depending on the lymphnode findings. What would you guys suggest for me to go from here. I was told by my nurse that every 3 months I will be tested and they will watch for the ca125 marker. My concern is getting ovarian cancer and not know it. I wish my doctor would just take the ovaries and get it over with. Instead I heard that they could put me on the Tamoxifen pill and I will go into premenopause but I'll still have the luxury of having my period still....LOL! Is this what is considered HELL!!!!!! Just kidding. I have a good, no, GREAT attitude. I keep a couple of books by my night stand one of which is called the Power of Now by Edkhart Tolle. I tell you what. I think if I stay in the day of which I'm in "right NOW" I can handle anything. Having a spiritual side saves my ass...LOL

I hope everyone is doing well. If not physically at least I hope you're okay on the inside "Soul" wise that is.

BIGGGGGGGGGGG HUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGS!

Hello Angela! My mom has breast cancer and she is 50 years old. I understand you are concerned about taking out your ovaries. I highly suggest that you do it! My mom was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer with a very low chance of having it come back. Her old oncologist and surgeon messed up during her mastectomy and dyed the wrong sides of the lymph nodes so they could not tell if the cancer spread. A year later the cancer reoccured in her bones. Her new oncologist at UCSD in San Diego told her she should have taken out her ovaries from the start!!!! The surgeon went to take her ovaries out and found the cancer spread and saw it in the liver. Take it out! Also make sure you find out your her2neu status. Also keep up with those blood tests and after you and your doctors decision to do chemo and/or radiation. Ask to do a pet scan.....plz take my advice because if my mom would have done all this when she was initially diagnosed she wouldnt have been in this position today! Also keep in mind that those blood tests dont always detect early spreading of the cancer....Goodluck with everything!! Be strong and think positive and you will be fine! It might also help if you posted this in the Stage 1 category of the discussion boards! Take Care.

I am 38 and taking Lupron to suppress the estrogen and it stops my periods and keeps me in medical induced menopause.  You might ask about it.  I get a shot once a month.

Hi there Tink, thanks for the message. Sorry to hear about your mom. How is she doing?

I had a long talk with my doctor yesterday before my surgery. Everything went well. I'll find out what the pathology report comes back with on Thursday. My doctor is going to advise an ovarian specialist that I have my ovaries removed.

If my test comes back negative regarding cancer in my sentinal lymph nodes I will be a candidate for 3-D radiology that is done in a week span twice a day and really targets where the cancer was. I have saline implants that would be affected if I go for the 6 week program.

I about had a heart attack last night around 2am. I took my bandages off and went white as a ghost. I'm better today. It was just a shock. In the long run. There just boobs. If my guy wasn't able to handle it he wouldn't be a person I would want to be with anyway.

Thanks again for your advise. I'm going for it if they allow it.

Hope all is well with your mom.

     Angela
