Stage IIIa andf new knot in opposite breast, Please Help!!!
Hello Everyone:
I am 52 and was diagnosed with stage IIIa breast cancer in December 2008. I had a lumpectomy, Adriamycin, Cytoxan and Taxotere for 3 months as well as 33 radiation treatments. I am also on Femara. I could not handle the side effects of Tamoxifen. I had a 3.9 cm IDC with 6 positive nodes. No history of any cancer in my family. My last mammogram was in March 2009 and both breasts were clear. This was done at the UNC breast center and it was a digital mammogram.
I have just found a small pea size knot in the opposite breast. It is very small and around six o'clock and under the nipple. I am scared to death. I did have silicone implants for 17 years that were removed in 2007. They both were leaking and calcified. I pray it's just a nodule but cannot see a Doctor until Monday. Does anyone have any thoughts??
God Bless us all!
Bibbie

Hi Bibbie. I can imagine you must be very scared, but remember there's nothing you can do until you get it checked out. And you absolutely MUST get it checked out! Get right in on Monday and insist on an ultrasound and biopsy. My mammogram never picked up my cancer b/c I have such dense breasts. But the ultrasound and MRI revealed it, so make sure you avail yourself of any and all tests possible.
In the meantime, try to stay busy today and occupy your mind with other things. Do you have a big cleaning project you can start? That's always good to distract you! It's possible that this is nothing, so no use making yourself nuts while you wait. I know, I know--easier said than done, but still...
Good luck with everything, and let us know what your doc says.

Dear Bibbie - I am so very sorry you are faced with this - there but for the Grace of God go any of us. Please try to hang in there as best you can until Monday, and tell them to get you in - emergency visit - asap. Praying that you get seen tomorrow and all is b9. Keep us posted and take a deep breath.
Hugs,
Linda

I forgot to mention I had silicone implants above the muscle for 17 years. In 2007 I had them removed with abreast lift. Both were leaking and had calcified. is it possible this could be a nodule from the silicone? Thanks for any ideas.

Yes, it is possible, and it's also possible that the nodule you're feeling is from the breast lift. My friend had a right-sided breast lift (for her healthy breast) after a TRAM on the left side, and 3 years later she had this hard nodule right below her nipple. She had a biopsy on it and it came back negative, so the surgeon said it's probably just scar tissue.
Let's just assume that's what it is until we know different, yes?
