AIs or other drugs and the kidneys

The last two labs I got showed that my kidneys are a little out of wack. BUN 30 and Creatinine 1.5.
I just had a D and C yesterday and the anesthesiologist suggested I stop NSAIDS. Yikes the pain from osteo and Femara is going to be intense. I have taken Mobic for years and Vioxx before that.
My meds are..
Femara
Melatonin
Benacar
and was Mobic
Any ideas or similar experience?
Thank you,
Shirley

I took excessive amounts of NSAID's for 4 years. By excessive I mean 3 500mg instead of just 2. I was diagnosed in May 2007 with kidney cancer and had to have a nephrectomy in July 2007. This is on top of bc 1993 and recur 2001. Hind sight is always better than fore sight, but if I could do it over, I would have been a little more careful about the anti-inflammatory meds. But pain is pain is pain. Seems the docs don't want to get too interested until it is too late with pain meds. I now have a standing prescrip for tylenol with codeine. I take 1 500 mg tylenol and 1 tylenol with codeine mid day and at night. A rheumatologist told me to take the meds on a routine basis and not wait until the pain builds up. I don't have rheumatoid arthritis, just lots of plain old 'Arthur' kind. Plus pain from the mastectomy and radiation, implant in then back out due to capsular contraction. Getting on a routine with the pain meds was the best advice I ever had. Perhaps if I had done that before on the NSAID's I would not have taken too much.

Wow ....
I am practicing for a breast cancer walk. Yesterday was the first time I did it without the NSAIDs. I walked about 15 miles and am really extremely sore...my hands are almost too sore to type. Weird that the walking made my hands hurt more. probably the pressure from liquids/lymph. While I was walking I had to do an emergency bathroom stop...almost could not pull my pants down due to hand pain.
I do take tylenol twice a day...1000 morning and night. Cannot imagine what I would feel like without that. I have an appointment with my internal who is also a rhumatologist (sp).
When I walk I drink a lot of fluid but I don't pee it out until later. is that normal? I retain fluid and then pee all day and night. The weather here is very warm and I wonder if that adds to that retention.

All good questions to ask the rheumatologist!

I went to the doctor today...he is not worried. The Creatnine went back down and he said it is an anomaly that happens. If NSAIDS were going to hurt my kidneys they would have done it a long time ago....we will test levels again in 6 weeks with the port flush. Go back on Mobic. I cannot tell you all how happy this makes me. Back to normal life without intense pain. I took a Mobic the minute I got home...I already feel better.

I am a happy girl,Shirley
