Alternatives to Biopsy?
Hello, I'm new here and have lots of questions. I have not yet been diagnosed. I found a lump myself, have had an ultrasound and mamogram and learned that I have two irregular masses with polymorphic calcifications. I'm scheduled for a consultation on 6/9 with the biopsy on 6/10.
What I'm wondering is, are there any alternatives to biopsies? I've read that needle biopsies can actually spread cancer cells and obviously this concerns me.
Also, is there a database anywhere of alternative or holistic doctors that will treat cancer patients?
And lastly, are there any good websites with alternative treatments/programs? I'm having trouble finding good info.
Thanks all for your help!

Twinmom77 - welcome and I am sorry that you are here!
Biopsy is the only way to really know what you are dealing with. There are a few types of biopsies - I am assuming you are talking about a core needle biopsy, or punch biopsy. There is also a surgical biopsy that is more like a lumpectomy.
There is no way to tell if you have cancer without testing the tissue, as far as I know.
This is a good alternative thread with a lot of knowledge. I have seen a naturopathic doctor at the Cancer Treatment Center of America. They happen to have a branch in a city near me. They have a website - i don't know what it is, but if you google it you will find it. I also see a great oncologist - I believe in conventional medicine with assistance from the nauropathic.
Good luck - keep posting - you are among women who understand what you are going thru. Hope your results are benign!

I read a study from the John Wayne Cancer Institute when I was first diagnosed that stated that there were more instances of the cancer speading to the lymph nodes in women who'd had needle biopsies, indicating that the biopsy may be releasing the cancer into the system. I therefore opted for a surgical biopsy only to find out that they used a needle to mark the site of the tumor, so the extra surgery was for nought and when all was said and done there were cancer cells found in two of my lymph nodes. Which my surgeon was surprised to discover because my tumor was small and not a fast growing type. I realize you are probably getting this info after you've already had your biopsy, sorry about that, but I just checked this link out. Hope you have better luck than I did.

www.cancertutor.com is a good place to start. I'm a big fan of the Budwig Protocol. Here's a good 2-part article on it: www.naturalnews.com/024339.html and www.naturalnews.com/024719.html . If you decide to go on Budwig, the best site you can join is a yahoo health group that will give you the step-by-step instructions, plus you can ask questions, read testimonies, get recipes, etc. Go to: www.health.groups.yahoo.com/group/FlaxSeedOil2/
Actually, I hope that your results come back benign and that this information is of no use to you!

Thanks ladies! I ended up having a stereotactic biopsy and was diagnosed with IDC, 1.4 cm Stage 1, Grade 3, ER+/PR+, HER2+. Needless to say, while I wait for my onc appts, I'm scouring all these alternative threads to find a way that I can avoid being on Tamox or Hercep. It's just all so overwhelming and I'm terrified to take RX drugs and terrified not to.

Check out the Her2+ forum for information on how most women with Her2 IDC are treated. With your tumor size and ER/PR+ status, there is a good chance your Dr. will recommend TCH, which although is no fun, it is certainly tolerable - not nearly as bad some others. Good Luck
