Anyone starting chemo in June 08

Hi Bonnie.
Did you see Dr. Taylor here in Victoria? I am supposed to have mine done in September or October but I seem to be devoloping some scar tissue I think since rads. I am going to get that checked out on Thursday....still can't find a prothesis that fits right without hurting. I hope he will still be able to do it.
Jill.

HunkyD If you can't bitch here with friends who and where can you bitch? The more we exchange info and gripes the better for all of us.
Karen glad to hear xray showed nothing. Work does help keep mind off every little twinge. That is one thing that drives me crazy is that every little quick or pain I think maybe but then I remind myself that I'm still taking treatments so it can't be anything.
Kelly sounds like you have been busy and having fun. Love the picture.
Bonnie I have read about using abdomen for reconstruction. The article said that it is good because you are using your own tissue so rejection is less. The down side was that some insurances wouldn't cove it.
HundkD if you can't bitch with your friends who can you bitch with? Hope your expanders go well. I would like to a tad bit smaller also. Since my lumpectomy my right side is lopsided. Good thing my bra makes adjustments. I think I'm the only one who can tell.
I have two more days of school then on Thurs. I will be taking my mom to Sandpoint ID to see some family. CT scan showed my spots shrinking and less dense. Doc says they are dead cells now. I need to drop 9 more points on markers to be in remission, which I find out on June 12th.
Keep posting. I will check in tomorrow and Wed then I won't be around until June10th.

Hi Jill,
No I have not seen Dr. Taylor yet as my GP wanted me to think it over for awhile first. He is on holidays right now but when he comes back I am going to tell him I want to see Dr. Taylor. I really need to get something done as I have to much problem with the prosthesis they drive me crazy.
Went for my regular blood test and Drs. appointment that I get the day before Herceptine and the doc found a lump under my arm that is quite sore and he wants to have an ultrasound done on it or a biopsy. On the way home from there I started to think about it to much, it better be something else besides cancer. It is in the same area that I had limp nodes taken out.
About the time you start to relax and think everything will be ok something always seems to pop up. I know I shouldn't think that it might be cancer and get all worried as that won't help, but the thought of chemo or radiation again just makes me sick.
I am sure glad that I have a place like this to yell and scream about everything. You are all such good listeners.
Anyway I had better go and come back when my head is on straight
Bonnie
-
Bonnie..hope you can get the US or biopsy scheduled right away. If you are a worry wart like myself....I like to get answers asap. You have great listeners here At my last pre-op last week during my chest xray the tech said in the microphone "you are done and can put your arms down." I ran to his little booth to look at my images before he could even get out of there. I said you know "I am a cancer patient and am just a little apprehensive all the time." He said I am not allowed to tell you anything about your images but here you are....go ahead and look....."they look fine to me" he said and he winked. Then he said...your docs will contact you before surgery if there is anything odd. Not a funny story but rather sad how restless we are about everything now. For me, it will not ever change either.
Wyoming...sounds like you are up for a road trip. Thanks for giving the permission to bitch here. Just what I needed to hear. You are good about being up front with people. That's probably why you make a great teacher with the young adults. I wish I lived more in central Idaho and then I could try to meet with you somewhere on your way to Sandpoint. Long ways away from me however. Maybe someday when I win the lottery we can all meet.
Kelly, cute picture. You might hear this a lot but you look like you are only about 16 years old. You look great with the short hair. I called my dentist this week to see if they can squeeze me in before my next surgery in a couple weeks. I told him I have a bad tooth and maybe he could just temporarily fix it if he didnt have a lot of time. Truth of the matter is...I know I have a lot of what they call "Problem Areas" but what I call big ass cavities. I know he will not have time to address even half of them. He was so nice to squeeze me in this week I won't complain about anything he does. I have not been in since before diagnosis last year so I deserve all this. Anyway....see..I am good about bitching. I'm off to another surgeon appt today, tomorrow is blood bank day, and the following day is dentist. I have kind of a full week. I am hoping to get the last drain out by Friday also. Bad thing is I am not allowed to drive. Everyone have a great day. Thinky about you all! HunkyD P.S. my next surgery will be muscle sparing tram flap so I will be getting a flatter stomach. That is a plus for me!
-
Bonnie I understand about thinking about everything. I'm doing treatment and things are going really well and I still find myself being anxious with every little twinge or ache. Let us know what happens with lump. Fingers are crossed.
HunkyD If I win the lottery I will plan a trip for all of us to get together!!!!!! (I'm not very lucky) One good thing about this is your stomach will be flatter without exercising. I went to dentist in Dec and then I had a crown that had to be replaced in April. Yea on the drain getting out. When do get to drive?
Tomorrow is my last day of School, YAHOO!!!!!
I will check in tomorrow before I go. I will miss everyone.

How many here are starting or considering reconstruction? I was so happy to hit the one year mark. What a difference a year makes, Last year I worried I wouldn't be here and now I can go days without getting too worried about my lifespan.
I really don't miss my breasts so I am not sure I want to mess with more surgery. On the other hand t would be nice to have clothes drape properly over my top half... What do you think? I hope I can get my port out after finishing herceptin in Sept. It really sticks out on my chest, like a mini boob and the line up my neck looks like a huge vein. ugh Kelly

Hi, I haven't been posting on this site, but followed it, since I started chemo. in June 08. My 6mo. (after rads.) mammo. was on May 26th, and I got the card in the mail today!!!! NED! I know it's just the first year, but OMG, what a heavy load to carry. I see my onc. on friday, for the first time in 6 months, and at least now I can breath, when I see him walk in the door. I just wish, he could have emailed me, as soon as he knew. What a relief, though. At work today, I was a basket case, waiting to hear, the worst. Does this get any easier?
-
Schools out for Summer!!!!! I am off to Sandpoint ID tomorrow. I have great news--- I was selected as Teacher of the Year for Campbell County School District. I'm really honored. It hasn't sunk in yet.
HunkyD hope you are healing and feeling good.
LeggyJ glad to hear from you. Congrats on your first year.
Kelly congrats on your first year also. I can't wait until I reach the one year milestone.
Have a great week and hope everyone is doing well.

congrats Wyoming... teacher of the year.. I commend you. I think being a teacher could be a tough job with the way kids are these days.
Kelly..love the new pic... is your hair curly?? Mine came in curly..its a nice change.
HunkyD... glad you are healing well...be nice to get that drain out I am sure.
Bonnie hope everything is okay with that lump... I just had one aspirated and they said it was fluid filled and the pathology said no cancer. Thank God. I don't know if this will ever get easier.
LeggyJ.. congrats on your results . I know it can drive you crazy waiting for answers. I just read an article that said woman go through more stress waiting for test results than anything.
Well, I am on a two week detox... naturpath advised it... hopefully get rid of any leftovers from the chemo and the radiation. I am on day 4 and things are okay. She recommended people do a detox once in the fall and once in the spring. Will let you know if I make it through the two weeks... it is beer season. Otherwise, I am enjoying my time before going back to work in July.
Hope you all have a good day.

Today, at work, I got lots of hugs from my coworkers! It was nice to have good news and well wishes.

Hi everyone -
Wyoming - Major Congratulations! That is so awesome to be named Teacher of the Year! What a great accomplishment.
HunkyD - hope you're drains are out and that your scars are healing nicely. And, that you can drive again soon. I really hated that.
Kellke - love your new pix. I chose unilateral mastectomy and no reconstruction. Sometimes I wish I'd gotten both taken off. I don't know whether I would have had reconstruction surgery then or not. I'm sure you'll make the right decision for you.
LeggyJ - I think it will always be scary to have tests done because we never know if or when the 'beast' is going to raise its ugly head again.
Karen - hope your detox is going well. What exactly are you doing/taking?
Bonnie - I had a friend who had the tram flap surgery and she has done really well with it. She hasn't had any problems or complications and just had her nipple tattooed on!
Has anyone heard from Chocolatelover lately? I haven't seen a post from her in a couple of months and am hoping that all is going o.k. with her.
Hugs to all,
Kathy -
Last drain came out this afternoon. Oh Yea Yea Yea!!!!! That is all I am going to say for now about that
Karen...I do believe there are great things your body can achieve from detox. I have always believed this long before even being diagnosed with cancer. Very hard thing to do for me mentally however, as I feed a lot of my daily stress with comfort foods and beverages. I need to realy step up to the plate and try to overcome my habitual eating and really clean out. It really makes a great deal of sense of all the positive advantages to your body when you think about it. Good luck with it and if you have time please pm or share with me just how detailed of a detox you are doing. This won't be a good time for me probably to try a full detox as I just got done with phase one of surgery and am about ready for phase two but I would like to hear just a brief run down of what your NP is having you do. Thanks...HunkyD

I will be starting chemo on June 8th TAC for my triple negative for 6 weeks. I already have marked down on the calendar I will be done Sep 21 if all goes well. I would love to keep in touch with you.
-
sandra67, this group all went through chemo last year in 2008. There is a group here you can find on the boards starting chemo in June 2009.
http://community.breastcancer.org/forum/69/topic/734424?page=1
I did chemo TAC X 6 last year at this time and would be willing to share anything you might have a question about. There is another woman on this thread that went through TAC X 6 last year also that is triple negative and is the most wonderful gal. Just PM me anytime or come back here and ask for "Wyoming" and maybe we could answer a question or two for you. I think you will find a great support system if you hook up with the starting chemo June 2009 group. It helps so much to go through chemo with another bunch of women anxious about it at the same time you are. Good luck my friend....You can do this.....HunkyD

I am starting chemo TC x 4 on June 11th. I am having a port put in on the 10th. My oncotype was a 27 and a grade 3 so i felt I should add chemo even though my oncologist gave me the choice to do it or not. I am busy trying to read about it and getting things I think I will need for the next few months. I am scared and worried about my ability to deal with it all. I have found I go into everything scared and worried and very very quiet. I see other patients joking with the nurses and technicians but I am just like a scared bunny scared to move or blink. My husband will go with me and I hope that will make it easier for me. Maybe I can draw some strength from all of you and we can get through this together. P.S. My first treatment is on my 66th birthday, I could have moved it to another day, but I want to get this show on the road and over with!!
-
Congrats. Wyoming, very nice to get an award like that.
HunkyD glad to hear that you got your drains out, and hope you are feeling a lot better.
I go for a bone scan tomorrow and an ultrasound on the 25th, wish it was a lot sooner but oh well at least it is getting done. I sure wish I could figure away to stop worrying so much about these tests. People say oh don't worry about it just think positive because they will probably be okay, sure it isn't them having it. These are friends and my husband not my understanding friends on here that say that. This is the one place I can count on people understanding.
Got to go now, your all take care
Bonnie

Glad to hear everyone is doing well. Bonnie good luck with the scan and ultrasound. I tell you, it sure is hard waiting for the results all the time. So many times I heard, be positive...definately easier said than done.
Hunky D... yeah about the drain. I will pm you about the details. No problem.
Sandra67.. I second HunkyD...if you want to vent or ask any questions...feel free...we are all here for each other. Good luck with the chemo treatments.
Wyoming...I take it you are celebrating???
I have to say the detox is a challenge as there is so much they don't want you to eat. This has been a wheat and gluten free detox. I must say though, I have had no gas problems...I always have that. No heartburn.. a few headaches and a bit emotional... I dont know if that is related to the detox or the going back to work....LOL...... So far so good. another 5 days to go.
Enjoy your day
Karen

Boy I could not detox. I might have withdrawals if they took away more jellybeans and cookies.

Did anyone else lose a lot of weight, during chemo.? I did TACx8, followed by rads.(5wks) and lost 35lbs. and have gained only a few lbs. since. I've been on Tamoxifen for about 6months and only recently have been able to get some muscle tone back. It sure takes a long time to feel normal again. Now don't get me wrong, I needed to lose a few lbs., and still have a muffin top, but really skinny arms and legs.
-
Sandra67 as HunkyD said we will answer any question you might have.
LeggyJ, I didn't lose any weight except for the weeks that I had Chemo then I gained everything back. I am at the same weight I was when I started all this started.
I hate waiting for all the test to come back. I find out this Friday if I'm in remission and get to start stretching out the time between my treatments. I got back from my trip to Idaho with my mom. We had a great time and northern Idaho is beautiful. If have never been there it would worth going.
It is raining here today so I haven't got much done. Hope everyone is feeling good today as we never know what day will be a good day or not.
Lets hope this summer is a little less stressful and easier.

Wyoming...glad you made it home safe and sound. It has been many years since I have been to North Idaho. I wish to congratulate you on your recent award also. Without reading back through a whole lot of your posts, it seems if my memory is correct, that you are not just a teacher, but one implementing alternative practices to teens that have had difficult times in mainstream public schooling. Whatever I'm trying to say, I'm not sure other than you are a very special person to deal with kids branded with a little trouble. If I am wrong, and chemo brain is just serving me up another chapter of brain fiction, sorry, but I do know you have amazing fortitude anyway, and the kids can definately read that. What a great achievement. I also am keeping fingers crossed for your clean tests for remission. A slower pace for treatment this summer would be great!!!!! Bonnie..thoughts are with you as well as everyone else waiting on test results, healing....etc! LeggyJ....I can't say I was as fortunate with the weight loss. I gained a good 7-10lbs after chemo and radiation, and tamoxifen, and I am constantly fighting it. Hopefully after reconstruction is over, I will find some energy and motivation again. Take care all of you....I understand all your fears and tears ...HunkyD
-
I think one of the reasons, I seem to keep off most of the weight I lost, is work. I have a really physical job, and had to return to work, part-time during radiation in Oct.08. On Dec. 5th my state disability ended and I had to support myself, since I'm single. Thankfully, work has been picking up with the season, but nothing like before with economy as it is. Today, one of my co-workers said, how far I've come, since I came back to work, and how much stronger I am. It's hard to realize that, when I'm working more, but still tired all the time....
-
First of all THANK YOU for all of your congratulations. HunkyD you can relax and jump for joy as I do work with kids branded with trouble of some kind. My numbers didn't change so I have to keep doing what I'm doing 2 txts within 3 weeks. If after July 3rd appt my numbers haven't changed onc will change what we are doing. Keep you fingers crossed that my numbers drop!!!!!
HunkyD how are you feeling? Are you back to work? Don't worry about your weight. You need to focus on getting better and staying healthy.
LeggyJ even if you are tired, it is good to work or keep busy doing something. Since last summer was such a poopy one, I'm going to play in my garden, flower beds, plan some travel, and see family. In other words keeping busy instead of sleeping most of the time. LeggyJ I like your picture of you dog. I'm a dog and cat lover. I can't resist a kitten or puppy. It is a wonder I'm not like one of those people who have the animal control come in to resuce 10000's of pets. I only have one of each.
My in-laws are coming for a visit this weekend. They are from eastern Nebraska. Luckily I get a long with them. My hubby is excited to see them as it has been over a year since he has seen them. Should have a good time.
Talk to you later.

Yeah, Wolfie is quite a character! When I was going through chemo. I had to walk him, no one else could. So, it helps, having someone to remind you to get up and go! It's funny how they can tell time.
-
LeggyJ, I'll bet he even has daylight savings time figured out. He knows who takes care of him too. Wonderful how animals can keep you in some state of "normal" when we are going through all this huh? Well, I'm going in tomorrow morning for my free Tram (breast recon). Pretty nervous, no, real nervous. I will check in with you all when I can. Hospital stay will be longer this time. I am just praying for no necrosis, infections, etc. Hope you are all doing OK. Hugs.....HunkyD
-
My prayers are with you, HunkyD! GOOD LUCK!
-
HunkyD just a short note to wish you good luck, hope everything goes well.
Bonnie
-
HunkyD...sending you positive vibes and hoping all goes well.
-
HunkyD good luck!!!!! We will be thinking and sending you positive thoughts and prayers.
-
Hunky, I thought I was the last one left to say hunkydory. I love that name. I never noticed more than the hunky before.
I hope your hospital stay is all tea trolley service (my favorite part) and not too much poking and prodding!! Good Luck!
