I choose to have BLM because my mother died in my arms from bc.  I knew for 25 years that if I was ever diagnosed I would choose a BLM.  I'm glad I did as my surgical path report showed DCIS in another quadrant of the breast (L) that had cancer.  This did not show up in the diagnostic mammogram or ultrasound.  I did not have an MRI since I decided to have the BLM.  If I had not had at least a L breast mastectomy I would have been back in for either a 2nd lumpectomy or mastectomy within a few years.  With that said, this is only my story and I'm not telling it to suggest a lumpectomy is not a great choice, just sharing my experience.

Hi...I did not do chemo.  I was a stage one with tumor of 1.5 cm and a grade 3.  I was er and pr ++++ and her 2-........I was thinking of doing the chemo and when myu onco came back at an 18 my doctor told me the risk of chemo would outweigh the benefits so I did not do the chemo.  Did lumpectomy and radiation and on the *&^% AI's......jude14

I'm a bit older than most of you, but had early bc that was HER2 positive as you can see by my signature.  I was told "no chemo, no herceptin" by two different oncs. They told me that the side effects of the drugs were to great to make things any better.  According to these people, I have a less than 10% chance of reoccurance within the next 10 years.  I guess I'll take it and run. Chemo would have been my safety net, I think, though.  Oh well....time will tell.  So far, so good!

I'm a lot like jude14-- stage 1, 1.2 mm IDC, er+, pr+, her2-, no nodes, oncotype=20, grade 3, diagnosed 2005. My onc said chemo was not really necessary and I REALLY didn't want to do it if i didn't have to, so I had lumpectomy, radiation and am now on &*^%$ AI (femara). I actually took 3 months off of a femara recently after taking it 2.5 years and went back on about 3 months ago, and I don't really notice any side effects this time around.. crossing my fingers.. good luck,,,
