BC spreading to the eyes?

Has anyone heard of BC mets to the eye?

My recent CT/PET was upsetting to both my PCP and me, although littel concern was expressed by my Onc. The scans showed, "lesions" in my right kidney, thyroid, mastoid, sinus, occipital cortex, "activity" in my spine and hip, and a number of mini-strokes. My PCP jumped right on it, and spent a lot of time contacting other doctors and radiologists, then set up an number of referrals (5 or 6) to other specialist. Thank God I have her, as she seems to be more on top of everything than my Onc.

I had my first referal Wednesday, the eye specialist. She is needs more testing and an evaluation by her partner, an eye surgeon. She is very concerned with what is causing my headaches and loss of my vision in the last few months. One of her concerns is possible mets to the eye. I spoke with my PCP last night and she has never heard of such a thing. However the Specialist said she has actually had 2 or 3 cases in her office of BC spreading to the eyes.

It just seems like the nightmare is getting worse every week.

I was just googling this subject and to my horror I discovered, "Eye cancers can be primary,,,and metastatic cancer (spread to the eye from another organ). The two most common cancers that spread to the eye from another organ are breast cancer and lung cancer" , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ocular_oncology

First of all, stay away from Dr. Google!!  You can scare yourself into hysteria...I know this because I have done it recently.

I would try and relax (oh yeah, right...that's gonna happen) and know that you are in terrific hands with all your specialists. Hollyann's has turned out to be b9 and there is a chance yours will, too. Hopefully, someone else will come along with more information, and help put your mind at ease.

Until then, try and refrain from more of your own research.  Alot of that information is old and inaccurate.

Thanks so much for the pep talk. Ia m so scared.

The informaiton I found, regarding mets to the eyes, has all been the same, so I am guessing right on point. One thing I have learned is when cancer spreads to the eyes, it's generally BC in women and lung cancer in men. Also another frighting thing is most tend to ignore the signs, thinking they just need new glasses.

With me not only has my sight deminished but I am having floaters, pain, and when I get up during the night, everything seems much darker in my good eye than in my "blind" eye. I have been legally blind in my right eye since birth. I only see light. When my good eye seemed darker than my blind eye, I really started to get scared.

I wish there was something really brilliant for me to say that would wipe out your fear, but there isn't.  All I can do is send up prayers that it's all going to be ok, and things settle down a bit for you. When is your next doctor's visit?

I have an appointment Wed, perhaps a biopsy, then my cardio on Friday, my PCP Monday, 2 more the next day, first the eye specialist, then an hour 1/2 later with the eye surgeon.

I am also having a strange test where they withhold water and fluids for a certain amount of time then take blood and urine. This has to be done in the hospital.

My Doctor is testing me for a rare form of diabetes called "diabetes insipidus" Which is a "tasteless form of diabetes, as opposed to "Diabetes Mellitus" which is "sweet" diabetes.

To make matters worse, I am a teacher and one of my students came down with Mennigitis over the weekend and was hospitalized. Now I have one more thing to worry about. Only this time not just me but my entire class.

    hi Lady 4law

I have been recently dx'd with DI.  Had BC in 2011.  Hope yours is nothing to do with recurrence.

    I'm seeing my oncologist today.
